Post 3.0: Paladins.....
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Level 13 is kind of end game, that's too far off..... Seriously thinking, about abandoning this campaign, if Sacred Immolation is the only decent thing about Paladins......... Is that all there is? Because exhortations and stuff, I mean Priest can also dispel the same stuff as exhortations and on top of that he has CCs and some of game's most massive stat buffs also, not to mention he also has higher accuracy than my Pally and is doing better than him on front lines with a Great Sword and Heavy Armor......... -
Post 3.0: Paladins.....
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am all for roleplaying but that's not it.......... Also I was not making a statement I was asking a question, because I have not played Paladin as protagonist before, this was my first time as Paladin, so I thought may be I was doing something wrong, because at the moment my Paladin seems to be the weakest character of the party........and the party consists of a Fighter, a Monk, a Cipher, a Priest, a Wizard and the aforementioned Paladin and it seems like that the Paladin is a burden on the party, anything he can do, Priest or Fighter can do better, I feel like I'll be better off by playing another class because Paladin's contribution in everything is far behind other classes.. -
Do Paladins really worth it? I tried to start a new campaign with a Paladin and this was to be my first time as a Paladin protagonist...... But I was really disappointed to find out that anything that a Paladin can do, there is always another class that can do it better.....they can't compete with damage dealers in damage output like rogues, rangers, ciphers...., they can't compete in support role with priests, they can't compete in mob control with wizards or druids and they can't compete in tanking with fighters or monks etc.......... People tell me that Paladins are melee support class and kind of jack of all trades and master of none, but I beg to differ...... Priests are the ones who are kind of jack of all trades and they are master of few as well, they can support, they can crowd control, they can also deal decent damage and can have high accuracy with deities boons (higher than Paladins), Priests can pretty much do almost anything that you build them for.........they can even serve as a frontliner as well if built for the purpose, may not be as resilient as a fighter but still can contribute very well at the front lines, if built with proper talents and use appropriate spells..... Anything a Paladin can do a Priest can do better, so I really want to know, what a Paladin is good for? Does it really worth to play Paladin as a protagonist or is he just a side-liner who is outshined in pretty much all meaniful aspects of the game by other classes?

Monks over-powered?
Brimsurfer replied to Jojobobo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Swords have always been common among wizards traditionally, it was a short coming in earlier cRPGs that couldn't wield or specialise in swords.... however, I have yet to see a monk in a metallic armor..........most wear robes and some wear leather or hide, I haven't seen or heard of any monks wearing metal ....... -

Why is wand "two-handed"

So that you don't dis-balance Eora with dual wands...... -
Monks over-powered?

This sounds more like an issue with the game script rather than the class........ -
Monks over-powered?
Brimsurfer replied to Jojobobo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I can't do **** with monks in this game........because I refuse to put medium armor or anything heavier on them because that makes no sense to me, at all........ -
What would be a good attribute spread for a front line priest in heavy or medium armor? (talking PotD, no min/max build pls) I am guessing I would need higher Res for higher concentration and some deflection, although not too sure about Dex and Per which one would be more important.... AoE size is not that important for me but Duration is , so I guess i will be putting some points in Int too.... Probably be something like this, I am guessing....... M 15 15 C 10 10 D 12 or 14 P 14 10 I 12 14 R 14 14 Please contribute... EDIT: Also will I be able to get away with only 10 in Cons, considering this will be melee frontliner, will not be main tanking but will be in harms way more often than not?

Deflection and Resolve...
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Res will not become useless at all....it refers to inner strength, determination, emotional intensity, its contributes to the presence of personality and toughness against influences...........so it should contribute to resistances, multiple saving throws, should also contribute to ability durations and size and effectiveness of auras, I mean stuff like that........ I already said they will probably have to go back to drawing board to fix this in a way that it would make sense because what I am suggesting may result in a some overlapping between resolve and intelligence because at the moment it doesn't make sense that how come a characters intelligence increases the ability auras, specially in case of Paladin and Chanters...... I mean honestly if you really think about the attributes and the stats to which they contribute, doesn't really make a whole lotta sense specially in some cases......... -

Soulbound Weapons
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes sir! Well said...... Which brings me to a separate........'issue' should I call it? Not really an issue but I like to talk about it........Weapon Focus and Deity Bonuses aside, (about which people think that its OK for Soulbound Weapons to receive bonuses universally, even if they belong to an entirely different Weapon Type or Group, although I sure don't)... In addition to that, I also like to bring this into notice that there are multiple melee Soulbound Weapons which can be used by 'all classes' , e.g. Steadfast, The Unlabored Blade, The Grey Sleeper and Abydon's Hammer, these are four universal melee Soulbound Weapons among all classes however there are no universal ranged Soulbound Weapons.......at the moment it seems like melee characters have much wider variety of Soulbound Weapons to use from as compared to ranged characters... IMO it would be great if we could get couple of Ranged Soulbound Weapons for All Classes... -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The writers are not pontificating their personal dispositions, or at least what they are pontificating is not what you think it is. Even if they were, speaking out against someone pontificating their personal dispositions is implicitly an attack against every work of literature, or even any story with any kind of theme, ever written, which seems to be a bit of a big ask for a videogame thread. As for me, I'm a bad winner and I'm just wallowing in my victory. Am I suppose to laugh now? P.S. BTW thanks for keeping this topic on top for me, I guess I can always count on you in this regard, when I am not around.... -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
lmao "admitted". Yeah I'm not religious guys, my whole beef with this story isn't because my faith is so weak that any reference to atheism starts eroding the foundations of my sandcastle, it's just uh, bad storytelling So speaking out against someone pontificating their personal dispositions, is an indication of having weak faith? BTW how come you are still here.......I thought that, you thought that you won the argument, what are you still doing here? P.S. just to be clear to other readers, as I have said before I am not particularly a religious guy but I am also not an Atheist and I absolutely do not approve of anyone pontificating their personal dispositions...hence this topic came into existence.. -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
See we are going back in circles now, that's why i didn't want to repeat myself, somebody already asked me this and I have replied to a very similar question previously. Works of Tolkien are not monotheistic propaganda because monotheism is not shown as a universal and uncontested truth of Middle Earth, same goes for the games you mentioned..... -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I must have missed your post, sorry about that..... I think its anti theist propaganda because it portrays anti theism as an uncontested and universal truth of the world and the game's final act's dialogue theme behaves in such a way that, you are given no choice but to conform to it....... My quarrel is with the direction story took in the final act (which also formed the theme for the dialogues with Iovara and Thaos, I don't see any reason to copy and paste the whole interaction with Iovara and Thaos, we all played it, we know it)......... there were a million grand directions in which the tale could have gone but it was sadly reduced to the same old anti-theism cliche, where the story suggested that 'there are no real gods and people of the world are being fooled for centuries to believe in them and the people who are trying to enforce this belief in false gods, now of course they are liars and evil since the gods are false..... and its all an elaborate and twisted plan to give some kind of false direction and order to peoples' lives and it only caused war and strife..........' When I first played through the final act, it right away pinned me and I started looking that why the story took that turn, elements of athi-theism were apparent to me and later I found out that there were indeed some atheist elements involved in the development of the game and even the lead designer has publicly admitted that he is an atheist as well.....this is no co-incidence, these guys let their personal real life dispositions get the better of them.....to me this disposition is misguided and I abhor the fact that the game doesn't allow anyone or anything to contest with its loaded truth or gives even a hint that Iovara's findings were false or there is even a shadow of doubt that her theory may be wrong even Thaos fails to deny it, he kept deflecting the question with nonsense about bringing direction and order to Eora..... Whatever questions or scenarios game posed or dealt with, in the end it felt like they were all just cheap tools to arrive at a pre-conceived and pre-decided conclusion meant to confirm anti-theism as the universal and unshakeable truth of the world, without leaving any room to believe otherwise...... -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
And that is a part of the problem. The only problem is that you are quoting only a part of my post and trying to appear sensible with your one liner, which is meaningless otherwise..... and you are not the only one, that's another part of the problem...... -

Said it countless times, I am talking about the whole dialogue theme of final act........and why and what objections I have about it, have been discussed in detail previously, I don't want to link previous posts in the same topic for someone who keeps asking the same question over and over again without acknowledging the answer...........there is no point..... -

I never said I was gonna leave this thread, I maintain my stand......main story indeed reflects an anti-theism cliche, so I ain't going anywhere son, don't worry........ Edit: I love the gameplay but the main story conclusion put off in a most terrible way, no other RPG chopped my wings in such a manner and pushed me down blindfolded in a narrow and dark corridor with no windows and doors...... it was an absolute horror.....I was like WTF are these dialogue choices, this is not what my guy is meant to say, this is not my Watcher.........F' this ****....... Which dialogue options, specifically, are you referring to?I have already said it, I am not going to say it again to encourage you to keep asking me the same question over and over again..........if you are trying to drive me away by annoying me, its not going to work.....looks like I win the argument, as you cannot produce an example. Its already produced.......said it countless times, you don't want to acknowledge it, so be it....... I am not going to repeat myself over and over again to keep you entertained......you think you won the argument? So I guess won't be seeing you here again then......see ya... I'll be right here keeping this topic going...... -
