Deflection and Resolve...
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's not what the in-game description says, although this may be construed from a certain angle and if we are considering derived meanings, synonyms and common dictionary definitions then its going to get really really confusing because then attributes like Constitution and Intelligence will cover heck of a lot more ground and there will be overlapping everywhere.........but even with your dictionary meaning, I don't see Resolve helping one to deflect incoming physical blows as a directly governing attribute...... To me Deflection falls more in the territory of either Perception, Dexterity or Might........but I guess you are entitled to have your convictions -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I never said I was gonna leave this thread, I maintain my stand......main story indeed reflects an anti-theism cliche, so I ain't going anywhere son, don't worry........ Edit: I love the gameplay but the main story conclusion put off in a most terrible way, no other RPG chopped my wings in such a manner and pushed me down blindfolded in a narrow and dark corridor with no windows and doors...... it was an absolute horror.....I was like WTF are these dialogue choices, this is not what my guy is meant to say, this is not my Watcher.........F' this ****....... -

Deflection and Resolve...
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Spiritual Power is Might and not Resolve as per in-game description...... Might covers both Physical and Spiritual Power of a character as per in-game description.......baffling isn't it .. Edit: And if Might can cover the both north and south pole of all physical and non physical power, then I am not sure why can't Perception add to Accuracy and Deflection both and Deflection is removed entirely from Resolve.......also I have never seen a front liner who can't hit the broad side of a barn even with a banjo, it should also help tankers to have some what decent accuracy..... -
Deflection and Resolve...
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I know Perception use to contribute to Deflection score before but putting it on Resolve doesn't make much sense because Resolve is something entirely different, it generally pertains to a character's inner strength e.g. mental and emotional prowess and should contribute to stuff like ability auras and duration, saving throws, spell success chance etc, (will also help Pallys and Chanters too I guess, because then you won't have to go out of your way to increase your intel for aura size or duration) and Deflection should probably come under one of the attributes of physical nature, like Dexterity or Perception or Might or even Constitution but to do that they may have to go back to drawing board and figure out which attribute should contribute to what ........ Or perhaps they should probably add Deflection to Armors and may be Dexterity or Perception can add to it partially at a lower rate or not at all........same as BG and IWD games, where Dexterity contributed to Armor Class and you could also get it from Armors too...... But at the moment it doesn't look right on Resolve, if I think about it....... -

I don't care what anyone is saying about this topic, I am calling it as I am seeing it.........its a blatant disregard for unbiased story telling with shameless inclination towards anti-theism........ Its just so convenient that the deities in this game are shown as a lie and the world is fooled to believe in them and the villain of the world has a nefarious agenda to make sure that people foolishly keep believing in these false gods.........nice work, great!!.......you just vomited your misguided personal dispositions all over my clothes......I just hope you don't do it again, otherwise i'll have to keep my distance and make sure others know this too that you are capable of doing such a thing....... -

Actually I do get to decide or at least contribute in deciding which way the lore should go, That is the scariest thing you have ever said. The only thing we have to fear is Brimsurfer with power? Indeed It's a good thing you're so impotent, then. Its funny that you of all people should say that -
Just found out that Shield Flames skill of Shieldbearer of St Elcga doesn't work on Paladin herself, or is there something wrong going on in my game, because i can't seem to get that +10 deflection bonus either in melee or ranged combat......same goes for Kind Wayfarer healing on kill and with FoD......not healing the Paladin herself...... Can anyone please confirm this?

I have been starting and restarting this game over and over again, can't decide which class to go with, now I am trying to play a Monk (PotD campaign) and I honestly don't know how this class works, because from what I know of Monks, they work best without armor and without weapons, their fists do the magic for them and they are suppose to be at their best when their bodies are unhindered.......but its not working like this in PoE I am taking way too much damage...... Do I really need to wear armor and use weapons with monk in this game? I mean I want to build a tanky damage dealer who can hold his own in a battle without needing a tank to pull enemies off him......... Should I try putting heavy armor on? But it seems kind of ridiculous I have never heard of a monk in heavy armor, I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong and I can't seem to figure it out...... Help pls...... Thanks

I have never really played a Paladin protagonist before so I don't know, they may be able to soak some damage but I am guessing that they may not be so good at proper tanking because they dont have any close quarter combat class talents like CC abilities or the ones that help with engagement mechanics, like fighter can knock enemies down, clear them out, pull them in range, knock them out when they try to escape etc...........I don't see any close combat class talents in Paladin's repertoire, not even one IIRC their skill table........ I am really not sure how a Paladin will manage keeping 2 or 3 enemies engaged on her, without letting them escape......

Deflection and Resolve...
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
To me Resolve seems like an attribute that is more related to the strength of personality and character......internal drive, determination and emotional intensity , these are the traits that strengthens one's personality gives him / her a formidable presence / aura and ability to influence others and shrug off influences cast by others rather than deflecting physical damage or injury.... -
Deflection and Resolve...
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Which is kind of mind numbing but still pretty sure you need physical prowess and combat awareness more than just internal drive to deflect incoming blows....actually awareness and ability to notice enemy movements tops the list in this scenario...... -
Deflection is governed by Resolve, now I am trying to figure out how come a Character's Resolve help him Deflect incoming blows? Resolve refers to a characters internal drive, determination and emotional intensity not sure how is it helping that character to Deflect incoming blows...... On the other hand successfully deflecting or stopping a blow requires considerable physical strength and combat awareness, now these two qualities are covered by Might (refers to physical strength of a character as per in-game description) and Perception (refers to characters ability to notice things, may also contribute to characters awareness in combat, like noticing enemies' movements and etc) So to me it appears that Might and Perception should determine a character's ability to successfully Deflect incoming blows rather than Resolve, which should contribute towards ability auras and duration, multiple saving throws and may be resistances and spell success chance as well since it refers to, as mentioned above, a character's internal drive, determination and emotional intensity..... Just my thoughts on Deflection and Resolve.....I am sure I'll hear some heavy criticism from the people who are use to current system but......... what the heck, I can take it

Well it sort of is That's the way I play with Pallegina, placed in second row and holding Aedrin's Wrecker. FoD greatly benefits from slow hard-hitting weapons, while also providing bonus acc. Majority of FoD shots are resulting in a stun or a prone. Coupled with apprentice sneak attack it's a great alpha strike, which also gives +20% attack speed to everyone. And since she stands in the mid-line, it's guaranteed to cover all party members. Following with SE/Wrath of the five suns, deals the next portion of damage, and again higher acc helps to land the next stun/prone. Then use second FoD or Runner's Wounding Shot. And only then, if for some reason the fight is not already over, she can switch to 1h+Outworn Buckler, offtank, and heal/support the party. Another bonus is that when she is not in the front she can easily move around and cast lay on Hands without getting disengagement attacks. That's kind of what I have in mind for my Pally (however I won't be switching to melee weapons much), because this whole melee support thing don't really make much sense to me and only because of that Paladins in this game always seem dispensable to me........you go toe to toe with foe but you don't deal much damage and you can't really tank that well either, have no class talents that provide any mechanics to deal with engagement or close quarter combat, so that don't make sense to me.......that's why I have never played a Paladin before.....now I think a ranged Paladin may do it for me but seems like he won't be as good as priest or a chanter, unless I roll Kind Wayfarer and score killshots....

Soulbound Weapons
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Priests in PoE almost certainly don't receive their powers from their deity. The power was inside you all along, yo. This has been adequately explained. You don't like the explanation, but that doesn't make it wrong, and your continued insistence that this is so and that the game's internals MUST CONFORM TO YOUR WILL is ... stupid? Insane? How about "arrogant"? How about intelligent and innovative and fair too -
I was thinking about creating a mid range Paladin (equipped with ranged weapon) in light armor or robes, basically as support ranged character, but then I realised that at least one of each order's main abilities are tied to Flames of Devotion, which is a melee ability..... I think this kind of restricts this class, I mean I can always just skip that talent but it somehow doesn't feel right, feels like a waste to leave out FoD order ability.....I think it would've been great if flames of devotion could be used with a bow or crossbow too or perhaps only melee weapon is capable to relay the intensity of a Paladin's devotion.....not sure about the lore or stuff on this or why devs intended FoD to work with melee weapons only...... Just thought FoD with a ranged weapon would be cool........

2.6GB steam download. 3.02b?
Brimsurfer replied to a topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I had to opt for beta on steam to get the download, otherwise i wasn't getting it, so it is beta.... Also has anyone noticed that game is taking longer time to load after the patch? And, is there a complete list of updates included in this patch? Can't seem to find it........ Edit: Actually everything is taking longer now, during character creation the game seems to freeze for half a second when I click on a tab e.g changing from male to female or selecting a race or a background...... -
Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Brimsurfer replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Writer's personal dispositions got the better of him, that's what it is.......he strayed from unbiased story telling whether consciously or unconsciously but the dialogue of last act and the specific wording of it, relays heavy atheistic vibe....... and I am not a Christian and I am not particularly a religious person but I am no atheist either......and there are many unbiased games and stories out there that contain elements from various religious and political dispositions and I admire them ........ unbiased tales do not make such elements the universal truths of that tale, unbiased story telling demands it......its just bad writing to base a tale entirely on a singular (non) religious / political disposition, it takes away from the reader, or a player, more than it should......... I literally felt like all doors and windows were closed and I was being pushed forward in blindfolds in a narrow corridor, that's essentially how the final act of the game made me feel........it was abhorrent...... -
