  1. We found out this Sunday night that the site was not going to be ready to go because of a few issues that came up. We didn't feel confident in fixing and testing the issues in one day before going live. Because we had some extra time I gave Justin Bell the go ahead to do some additional polish work. We want this thing to go out just as much as all of you, and I understand why you are upset. Thank you all for being patient.
  2. No big update today. Darren still has a small handful of high priority bugs left to fix before we want to launch, and Justin Bell is still working on *something*. We are sorry it's taking so long, but we rather it be good than a bit late.
  3. Hey everyone, We have a small art update today with a few new screenshots, but it's not going to be the big update. We decided that we didn't want to launch the backer portal so close to Thanksgiving because of the technical issues that may arise and many of us will be out of town for the holiday. We are "beta" testing the site right now internally, and Darren is hard at work ironing out issues. We are really sorry about the delay. The team is excited about it just as much as all of you. -Adam
  4. No, it's just a guess, because the "Outsource" row was right above the "Beta Setup" row and somehow the rows seems to be grouped. And I think, someone from the team said, that they looking for a way to minimize the story spoilers for the Beta Testers. You are right that we don't want to spoil anything with the beta. It's a good guess, but the outsourced work is not for the beta. If we are spending money on outsourcing it's going into the final game.
  5. It's a script object that calls functions when a level is done loading. It doesn't have any "physical" appearance in the game.
  6. The stronghold hasn't gotten a paint over pass yet. The gritty details are added in during this step.
  7. We have a small update for today, but it's not going to be the "big update".
  8. The feline race rides battle-dogs into the fray?! Feh I say to that... They ride enchanted stacks of papers and keyboards, u_u. Ehhh, serious question... hmmm... could you give us some hint as to where/when those illustrated scripted events (like the attempt to jump the gap in the fallen bridge, or finding the huge egg in a little mountain alcove) are likely to fit into the gameplay? They could appear in all manner of situations, so I was wondering what the plan was for them. Or, you know... as much of the plan as you're allowed to reveal. You can totally give us classified information. This is just the internet. WHO'S going to see it, really? (Happy Friday to you, too, Adam, and all the team! And hopefully a happy Saturday and Sunday to follow, eh? ^_^) Hail, I'm not exactly sure what you are asking - scripted interactions will appear everywhere. It's like talking to NPCs, but instead of speaking you perform actions. I hope that cleared something up. -Adam
  9. Hail, I wouldn't be a good person to tell you about factions. It would be a good topic for a future update, but we would have to be careful to avoid spoilers because many of the factions play an integral part in the story. -Adam
  10. Hail, I don't know the ratio of game time between outdoors and indoors because we aren't done yet. We have a good number of dungeons and a good number of outdoor or wilderness maps. We will have more indoors than outdoors because outdoor maps take significantly longer to create than dungeons or interiors. However, you might be spending more time outdoors because that's the mode of travel between everything, if that makes sense. -Adam
  11. I guess it has been answered somewhere, but it seems difficult to find: how long is PE going to be and how much content do you plan on having? Someqhere I read PE is going to have "IWD 2-length" which could mean 60-100 hours. Any update on that? Is there anything "secret" you can share with us? Maybe a roooough description of one of your favourite quests so far? Or the coolest NPC? I don't actually think you'll answer this one, but hey, I tried :D Great to see you anwering questions again! Hail, We don't have the entire game playable, so I can't comment on length. We are shooting for the largest game we can make within our constraints of time/budget/staffing vs quality. I don't have any "secret" information for you. No spoilers. -Adam
  12. Hail, We use zbrush extensively in our hi-poly modelling for environments. I don't know what screenshot you are talking about, so I can't comment on it. -Adam
  13. There's a max number of spells per level for each grimoire - I think it's variable. I'm not certain of the number right now, but the max is likely to change a number of times before we ship. Frequent enough. It depends on the size and number of levels of the dungeon/area, and it's something that we will continue to tweak and modify based off of internal playtesting. There's also a good number of Inns and other rest locations.
  14. Happy Friday! I'll answer a few questions throughout the day today. About anything. Ask away. Cheers, Adam
  15. We do not have an update planned for tomorrow. No need to stay up for it.
  16. The PE engine, scripting, and tools are completely different from IE so it's like comparing apples to airplanes. Avellone was referring to similar feature functionality to IE, but behind the scenes the games aren't built the same way.
  17. Godlike are handled differently than the other races in chargen. We haven't implemented it yet, but in the current plan is that you can choose what type of Godlike you want to be, and the race of your parents. Godlike types have special bonuses too.
  18. thanks adam, nice to "see your face" around here more often, it's always great to see one of the devs leaving a comment here or there btw, are all you guys working so late in the evening? get some rest! regarding the "not enough updates" thing: one example for odd communication: we usually get at least bi-weekly updates, but stuff like the vertical slice being finished and the team entering production isn't mentioned on the fora for some weeks at all, but rather is made known in some small side comment regarding a completely different topic, by i think it has been Josh in my book, milestones like this warrant a big shout out... Update 62 was about us entering production, but after reading it and the surrounding updates I can see how that would be confusing.
  19. Ahoi Adam! 1.) Regarding clothing, armour and weapons: are you folks sometimes checking the Armour Plea thread? There are some great suggestions there in terms of historically inspired armour. Related to this: How renaissanc-y are the Vailian Republics going to be? What I've seen looks very 17th century-ish, especially some of the jackets and hats looked really musqueteery. Any chance for Landsknecht gear? You know, sliced clothing and all? 2.) As a backer with the Beta tier: Is the Beta you're going to release part of the original game or is it a Beta setting to just try out the different mechanics? I would prefer the latter to not get spoiled as far as story goes... (and I hate playing the starting section multiple times ) 3.) How are things going generally? Are you still optimistic (besides the "everything's going well stuff)? Or have you run in some unexpected problems? Well I could be wrong and you could think you're just posting a normal, harmless 'opinion'. Possibly I'm misinterpreting it as a spiteful expression of entitlement. In that case I would need to apologize. But you followed that up by the obviously trollish 'Fanboi Polizei', so I don't think I'm mistaken. Welcome to my ignore list. Wow, way to overreact I know the word entitlement gets thrown around the internet all the time as some sort of "knockout argument", but really, PE backers are entitled to know what's going on, since they have funded the game. Also it's absolutely legitimate to want to have more updates and information and everything PE-related. Instead of always interpeting everything as "spiteful expression of entitlement" you could just see it as eager fandom. Hail Sophos, We do check the armor thread. We don't have plans for Landsknecht sliced armor, but you can get the same effect with the colorful gear and plumed hats coming from the Valian Republics. Wield a greatsword and you should be good to go. The backer beta will not contain story spoilers. We are still discussing exactly what we want to do for it. Things are going really well. The game is playable, mostly feature complete, runs well, and the team is able to work productively. All of those items are key for being able to make a good game. -Adam
