So who is working on this game?
Adam Brennecke replied to Flouride's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Hiya. It's me, Jabby! -
That's Alpha Protocol. Well, that's one piece of info at least: none of Obsidian's current projects use the Unreal engine, besides AP. "I am currently lead designer of our (currently unannounced) Unreal 3 project" Chris is lead designer on AP.

NWN2 originally developed by Liquid Ent.?
Adam Brennecke replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
huh interesting... thanks for the info JAB. In the end you guys ended up using little of aurora anyways as well. I actually never heard of Liquid until this thread... :/ The majority of NWN2 still runs on Aurora. Electron replaced many of the client side systems including the renderer, animation, user interface, terrian/tiles and effects. Did you guys gut the pathfinding and AI too? Been a while since we had these convos so I may be wrong on this. I was under the impression pretty much only the game mechanics were more or less left from the original code by the time you guys finished gutting and modifying. Pathfinding was a rewritten system in Electron. We did some changes to the AI system (such as pathfinding), but nothing extensive to decision making and behaviors. -

Liquid did a prototype pitch demo for NWN2, which was made from scratch and didn't use Aurora at all. Ultimately they didn't get the project. NWN2 from Obsidian did not use anything Liquid made for Atari, and most of us didn't even know that the project existed until we hired David. -
What sort of tools are used in Obsidian?
Adam Brennecke replied to NoKKiE's topic in Developers' Corner
You will find most of the folks at Obsidian use these applications for day to day work: Visual Studio 2005, Max, XSI, Motion Builder, Photoshop, Perforce, Source Safe, ZBrush, Unreal Ed, MS Word, Sharepoint, MS Excel, Outlook and our own proprietary tools (Onyx Engine Tools & NWN2 Electron Toolset, etc.) -Brennecke -
That was a babby quake for most people in socal.

How many devs working at Obsidian?
Adam Brennecke replied to Star Monkey's topic in Obsidian General
135 sounds about right which includes everyone at Obsidian. Head count might be a bit more since then. -
Today marks the fifth anniversary of the founding of Obsidian Entertainment. I just would like to give a big thanks to the owners for starting such a great company, and a very special thanks to all of our fans for making it possible. May we have a successful and fun five more. 6-12-2003 - A day to never forget! Cheers and Happy Obsidian Day!

How did you get into the gaming industry?

I'm really looking forward to the new Ghostbusters game from Terminal Reality. It's looking mighty fine. Let's get back on topic - enough Ghostbuster talk! -
How did you get into the gaming industry?
Adam Brennecke replied to jlf2n's topic in Developers' Corner
My Short Story: I've been a gamer my entire life and as I kid I wanted to be a Ghostbuster or a game developer. As I grew older, I knew that being a Ghostbuster wasn't a reality, so that left me with only one choice. Even as a kid game development was appealing because it allows for extreme creativity and is on the front end of new technology. When I was in my early teens I read about a new school (DigiPen) with a curriculum specifically for training game programmers in Nintendo Power. My new #1 priority in life was getting into the school so I could more easily get a job in the industry - the school also provided a great education for the fundamentals of making video games. To prepare myself for DigiPen I was a excellent student in high school, and after school I would spend time learning how to program and making mods for my favorite games. I got into DigiPen and I graduated at the top of my class three years later with a B.S. in RTIS and a minor in mathematics. Months before graduation I started sending my resume out to companies (specifically in SoCal because that's where I wanted to live) and I had a few interviews. On Gamasutra I noticed a company in Orange County was hiring. At the time I've never heard of Obsidian but after doing some research it was started by five awesome dudes that were responsible for some of my favorite games. Also at the time Obsidian was less than a year old, and rumors were circulating that they were either making K2 or NWN2! So I applied and got the job, and my dreams came true. The End. -
Yay, I'm a fan too!

From the words of J.E. Sawyer: "Benjamin James Gregory "Living Legend" Rasputin Mao Ma III was a soccer hero last night, scoring a goal in the last five seconds* from an assist by Noah." *4-1 loss. Ben's first goal of his soccer career.

Who could tranlate it for me?
Adam Brennecke replied to bronzepoem's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Andy Woo is a programmer who worked on NWN2, MotB, and AP. Martin Ka'ai Cluney is a level designer who worked on Aliens. They both left Obsidian last month. -Brennecke -
We've been playing a Pathfinder campaign at work for almost a year now and just finished up the third module last Sunday. However, we haven't been playing with the 3.75 rule set. I've briefly looked through the new rules and all the changes look very positive to me. So far the campaign has been probably one of the better D&D adventures I've played that was written in the last decade or so. Much better than LG. -Brennecke

We just won our first game this season 2-1. A two goal game by J.E. Sawyer! The All Black's roster this time were completely filled with Obsidian people (no friends & no pickup people) and against a really good opponent. Josh scored early on a miraculous backwards header from a throw-in by me. In the second half, the opposing team scored midway through to tie it up. Soon after, Josh scored on a breakaway from a pass by (I believe) Kevin Spangler. We played some really tight defense through the entire game and counter attacked when appropriate. It was a sweet victory! Game Roster: J.E. Sawyer (Forward), Noah Evans (Forward), Adam Brennecke (Mid), Shon Stewart (D-Back), Kevin Spangler (D-Back), Andy Woo (D-Back), Joe Bulock (Sweeper) & Ben "Toben"-"Woebtz"-"The Living Legend" Ma (D-Sub) Cheers! -Brennecke
