  1. ****ing pissed that my order of Mark Oliver Everett's book "Things the Grandchildren Should Know" got cancelled for the fourth time in a row because it's out of stock.
  2. I love the amount of advertising on that site they link. :D
  3. Not really. He commented on something I said in a way that was entirely designed to insult me, I replied in kind. I get carried away sometimes. Apologies (not to LoF).
  4. I just gathered some of my grandmothers things so the neighbour could bring her to the doctor in her car because she just broke her toe by stubbing it really hard against the corner of the sofa. So very ouchie.
  5. It's not that mp3 has worse quality or anything that makes me buys cd's (if I cared that much, I would go for vinyl). I just enjoy the experience of going to a record store, buying a CD, reading the booklets, holding the jewel case or whatever they put it in in my hand.
  6. How DARE you draw attention to this while children are starving in Africa every second. Damn, a lot of recent plane crashes. That sucks. That always kills a whole bunch of people in one go.
  7. Wow, that is already a lot more information than I expected to get! Thanks! As for the why and what questions, my answers are very simple. I want to make my own game because I think it would be an interesting project and a fun challenge. I want to make a game that I would enjoy playing rather than anyone else. I haven't given any thought to a possible career in game-design at all. I have done some slight modding to WarCraft III (texture and model replacements, and some basic maps in the map editor), but that's the extent of my experience. And yes, my 3D Studio Max and Maya experience does include Texture Mapping, modeling, lighting and animation. I can make some decent, if somewhat pedestrian music usually using a combination of Guitar Pro and Fruity Loops. Also, I came up with this project with a friend of mine so it isn't all me. Originally, the idea was a mod, but we couldn't decide on the game (neither of us were completely satisfied with any one game we could think of) so instead we decided to try out open source engines. This is all new territory for us, so right now we're researching that. I think our major hurdle is that neither of us have experience programming anything (well except some HTML on his side and some Flash Action Script 3 on mine).
  8. And the Native Americans got their country back when exactly? Oh, right! They became a pet charity! Just like the one you're trying to guilt people into now!
  9. I like my tangible things. I don't trust buying mp3s.
  10. Nourishment is overrated. Eat some dirt!
  11. Your country was built on the backs of the people of Indonesia. Indonesian backs is better than Native American blood, you arrogant, trolling sob.
  12. Good question. How about... When I'm Sixty Four by The Beatles.
  13. Here's a thought; player customisation. If you get to customise one character then it's easy to get attached to him/her, like the protagonists in the Baldur's Gate or KotOR games. So either no/limited customisation, or customisation for all characters. Or not. Just a thought. Rambling.
  14. Okay, I realize this question is probably far too general, but here it is anyway: If I were to, hypothetically, want to try to make my own game, where should I start? What sort of things would I need? Basically, what should be early priorities and mistakes I should avoid? Added information: I only have basic experience in 3D Studio Max and Maya, so I'm pretty much only useful with that. EDIT: Some more added info: I'm probably looking for something 3rd person, adventure like. Coupled with my experience with 3d apps, I'd assume it's going to be in 3D. I'm looking at open source game engines for it. OGRE has caught my interest, so added question: anybody have any experience with that? Does it work okay or is it riddled with bugs?
  15. Or alternatively, cranial trauma is the key to scientific discovery! This is my first time commenting on Dragon Age, and my comment is simply: I don't know. I've seen interesting things, I've seen stupid things. This game feels slightly schizophrenic to me. I don't know if it'll be good, decent or bad. I still have some slight faith in Bioware left though, and they can do the basic fantasy setting pretty well so I guess I'll probably enjoy it.
  16. I don't know this game, but that sanity meter looks awesome.
  17. It doesn't help much that some musicians actually endorse and encourage that view. I am slowly but surely working to turn my mp3 collection into a CD collection. Progress is slow due to limited funds.
  18. They are definately Mary Sue's. That doesn't mean the term shouldn't be used, it just means that the negative connotation it has isn't always warranted.
  19. There was a terrible ghastly silence. There was a terrible ghastly noise. There was a terrible ghastly silence. The Vogon Constructor Fleet coasted away into the inky starry void.
  20. Yeah, this is an awesome technique. Even surefire hits become better! I watched The Last Boyscout on DVD. Bruce Willis in loser mode is always fun. That's why Die Hard 4 doesn't compare to the other Die Hard's. Die Hard 4 John McClane is a superhero, whereas in the other's he's a loser who always gets stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Although to be honest I enjoy number 4 more than number 2.)
  21. Yes I noticed as much. I travel a lot by train and here in holland there are a bunch of free newspapers given out in the train. At 7 am I picked up a newspaper which had Farrah Fawcett on the frontpage, and by 8 am I was handed an updated one which had MJ on the frontpage and Farrah Fawcett was pushed to page 13. I thought that was pretty rough.
  22. Oh, don't get me wrong. I have an enormous loyalty to, for example, my parents. They raised me which must have been a complete pain in the butt. Close relatives whom I actually have a bond with are very important to me. But relatives I can't stand and who can't stand me can go jump into a hole for all I care. I don't think simple genetics is a reason to believe there is some deeper connection between us.
  23. Wha the hell...distracted from... what? Okay, you know what? You're right! I WAS distracted! I mean, I was going to give ALL THAT MONEY to charity! And I forgot because I put on Thriller, a part of my youth's musical soundtrack! If it hadn't been for Michael Jackson's death, I would have helped children in Africa! I mean, I didn't give them anything! And I had my whole day planned on giving them SO MUCH. Seriously, man. You disgust me (for purposes of this thread). You're using somebody's death to guilt people into your own agenda. It doesn't matter if it's a good agenda, because the end doesn't justify the means. For all your posing and posturing, you're using a strategy fit only for the worst of the species. EDIT: Okay, so maybe I was a little harsch, but I'm keeping this post as I originally wrote it. A high horse begets people wanting to climb on even higher horses. Not that it matters, because apparently Lord of Flies is only bothered by this being the case for Americans. And I'm not.
  24. Hahahahahaha!! Welcome! Enjoy your stay! I bet the money makes it even more enjoyable than ours!
  25. That's a pretty lame reason indeed, but the whole "you gotta stick by your kin" schtick is something I don't really agree with. Maybe it's that I have like fifteen aunts and uncles all with accompanying nephews and nieces who almost invariably turned out to be total and utter human waste. I spent the whole day just hanging out with my girlfriend. I took her to a carnaval, hoorays!
