  1. As someone who has experience with both CG and practical special effects, I passionately hate this very common but false view. CG is just as much work as most practical effects, the only people who have it easier are the director and the set creators who don't have to build sets and stage his shots around the special effects but we get the bad rep for how much easier we make their jobs. It pisses me off to no end.
  2. Personally, I feel that game maker is a piece of dung and you're better off learning to program or finding a programmer. Even Flash games would be a better alternative to Game Maker.
  3. Those won't be light wounds, don't worry. Still, I feel bad for replacing Greylord. He was badass, and probably the one keeping everyone alive by being a good offense ergo the best defense.
  4. Whelp, level two and hanging around Sarevok's cronies. That makes me nervous for my wellbeing. Still, I can at least stand back and cure some minor wounds. Possibly mine.
  5. Strictly single-player affair. Just the demo, or the whole game? I'm not sure if I'll get this yet, but companions would be a deal breaker.
  6. MPAA claims they want the legislation they paid for. To essentially admit to large scale corruption and use it as a threat, that's just filthy and confirms everything that has been said about SOPA.
  7. Wait, can Wals use healing potions? Wizard Slayer's can't, can they?
  8. Only potions, bhaalspawn abilities and lay on hands to heal you and you're worried about what weapon you have?
  9. Agreed, and like I said it was the right thing to do. But the timing of it just seems incredibly suspicious to me.
  10. So did that leave the party without a healer? Two archers, mage, wizard slayer, thief, umm... EDIT: Oh yes, a Paladin. So, I guess that's somewhat of a healer, I guess?
  11. How about this new MegaUpload thing? For those who didn't hear, MegaUpload was shut down and their offices raided. I think it was a disturbingly calculating move on the part of the US government. Between pandering to hollywood moguls and timing it after the mass SOPA protest, it reeks of publicity and intimidation. Firstly, it sends a message of "We didn't lose, we'll shut you down anyway!", and doing it just when the entire internet is riled up to fight for an open internet ensured that Anonymous would react the way it did, so they can say "See? See what the internet is like? Criminals, all of them!". I'm not defending MegaUpload, the website was pretty clearly designed to further illegal practices and was obviously going to be taken down and deservedly so, but this seems like an intimidation tactic towards those who opposed SOPA and PIPA.
  12. Bloody hell that's a scary thread. I know it's only polling the opinions of the bottom of society, but egads it's disturbing O_O I find it interesting how many people would fail their schools if not for wikipedia. I also find it interesting how many times people who have nothing to do with it get blamed, and that nobody actually read the front page comment that explained how to get around it. Actually, interesting might be the wrong word. "Galling" or "terrifying" may be more accurate.
  13. I hate this prevailing idea that all gender distinction is inherently bad. Yes, I agree that for example a woman that does the same job as a man should be paid the same, equal rights and equel treatment on that kind of issues. On a social level, however, gender roles that do no harm and are part of personal identity such as chivalry or display* I have no problem with. *Plus, anyone who has ever been with a woman can tell you they are more likely to put on make up and doll themselves up when they go to hang out with other women than when they are going to hang around with men. EDIT: To clarify, I do think that self image problem due to popular culture lead to a lot of problems for girls, and this approach is not perfect. I have yet to consolidate issues such as this with my personal views, you can't make up distinctive rules or views for everything.
  14. Small business owners such as webcomic creators or independent artists are in much more danger than something like Wikipedia, although the first victim will obviously be activist site Wikileaks. One comic creator described it as "one guy uses a Snow White avatar in my comment section and they have grounds to shut down MY entire website". I've checked it out, and that seems to be true, because that's exactly the sort of thing that falls under the terribly undefined SOPA description of the website "facilitating the illegal spread of copyrighted material" (I don't remember the exact wording, but it came down to that). It is a real danger to the livelyhood of thousands of people and represents enormous financial and cultural losses. Guess how many people on this board have a movie avatar, or something similar? Wave your community goodbye. As far as I can tell, SOPA and PIPA are poor piece of vaguely worded, draconian legislation written by corrupt people on the take from Hollywood bigwigs - it allows any large corporation to shut down and blacklist whatever and whoever they don't like while still leaving independent artists with no way to protect their own material and no outlets to show themselves because it essentially marks the end of social media and digital life as we know it. It's not about protecting IPs or copyrighted material. I don't usually believe in this "stick it to the man" fake rebel nonsense, but in this case, the only thing that this legislation does is give huge, faceless corporations the ability to regulate in disturbing detail what people are exposed to. Critic pans your movie, but used a couple of screenshots in the review? Shut it down! The worst thing is, they will be able to do this without a single court appearance or judicial sign-off. What does it require? A single letter claiming a "good faith belief" that a site has infringed on content. And painfully, they don't do a thing to further what they claim is their eventual goal. The Pirate Bay and other foreign operators have already issued statements that they're not afraid, this won't stop them, and most users have already been informed of ways to get around any technological barrier these people could throw up. It is useless against piracy and it is obvious that the people behind it know that. It's a false front to cheat people into legislation that simply cannot be used for good. Honestly, as an entertainment creator this thing scares the holy bejeezus out of me. At the risk of invoking Godwin's Law, I feel this is something WWII era Nazi's would do, not the enlightened country the United States of America claims to be. It is foul, it is criminal and it is evil, and the fact that it remains popular in the house of representatives while the White House, the creators of the internet and millions of others have spoken out against it only goes to show that they are corrupt and in desperate need of serious restructuring and investigation.
  15. Ditto. Death is inevitable, at least we get three second chances this time.
  16. Not bad, I quite enjoyed it. Nothing mindblowing, but everything just seemed to work for me. I quite like the art style, it's nice and colourful. I seemed to have some slowdown issues (crates wouldn't burst until a second or two after I hit them, speaking animations moving at half the speed of audio), dunno if that was just me.
  17. Yesh, I am further down the waitlist. For this reason I suggest you go hunt down Kangaxx RIGHT AWAY once you get to BG2.
  18. What bothers me is that they don't look like metal. They look like those foam rubber LARP things. Especially this one:
  19. I think the demo's coming out later this week.
  20. Not really, they both milk one character over and over and recycle their own material like madmen.
  21. I'm more concerned on how it even found it's way to my computer because I don't have Half Life or Counterstrike.
  22. That's not picky, that's just the 10% rule. Drizzt is obviously memorable, otherwise he wouldn't have spawned a legion of copycats. One of my ridiculous parody runs of BG2 involved a dual Scimitar wielding Drow Ranger named Drizzl. Then again, it also involved a Wild Mage named Schnorck, who stocked up on Reckless Dweomer's and almost nothing else.
  23. To clarify, I don't mind people having a negative view of a game at all, I'm not that fond of BG1 myself and opinions just work that way, this is the gaming portion of the board after all. I just can't stand it when people try to derail threads into pissing contests about whose taste is better with no better arguements than "it sucks", and I swear if I see one more thread becoming a rating battle over subjective issues like which Bioware title is the best ("FACT. R00fles!") it'll trigger my dark side and I might kill someone in a mall and have Counterstrike discovered on my laptop. I'm sure none of you want that on your conscience.
  24. And Captain Buzzkill comes to ruin the day once more to give his scathing review nobody asked for, which essentially ridicules the OP and adds absolutely nothing worthwhile to the thread other than putting people on the defensive. Have you ever been positive about something? Between you and Volourn every thread on this forum eventually turns into some kind of negativity spiral of hopeless bashing and elitism over video games. It'd be better for the community if you'd both, assuming you are not the same person, just left, but since you're not going to due to your obvious need for virtual attention I'm going to do the only thing that comes close and make delicious use of the board's ignore function. Also, games you don't like > games you like. Toodletoo. Please continue Tigranes, I do so enjoy the Obsidianites blundering about.
