Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy - Ch26 (Mae'Var)
In the similar boat as Deraldin, never been to Durlag's Tower. Don't own TOTSC. I "own" Baldur's Gate in that I bought it years ago, but recently I can't find it. I've got BG2+Throne of Bhaal though. No Tutu for me (or is it BGTrilogy now?). I'm thinking of buying that anthology set thing, but other things have kept coming up.

Really dumb gaming deaths
That reminds me of the Night Elf newbie rite of passage of trying to climb down that big tree Darnassus is on, falling down and never finding your way back as a ghost. That's no longer possible, is it? Isn't there are return to spirit healer button now? A while ago in KotOR I died to the luckiest mook ever, soloing as a high health soldier vs. this weak mook's stun baton that seemed to have a 100% chance of stun every time. Eventually, after a few minutes of me just sitting there looking around helplessly while he whittled down my health slowly and killed me. I've never felt so humiliated in a game. Also, in Aliens vs Predator 2 I always had a habit of pouncing my enemies when standing in front of the insta kill electric fences that make up the level borders. Pounce, opponent dodge, fly towards certain death with no way to stop it.

Books
Just started reading "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss on recommendation by... the world, or something. It'd be easier to list who didn't recommend it.

kotor2 update? patch?
Well, the black screen issue is at least less annoying than my problem. After every movie the damn thing stops recognizing keyboard input and I can only use my mouse.

Really dumb gaming deaths
When you're playing Super Mario Bros Wii with friends, all your deaths become hilarious. That, or grounds for a serious falling out.

"Come on, man. My toe really hurts!" Ah Tale, you fragile thing.

So Why No Warhammer RPG?
What it has to offer is a fantasy crpg. You guys act like we have plenty of those coming out and we can afford to be choosy.

Is that Hareishan the same as that one vampire we murder in BG2?

Hey, I never said it was a good reason.

I think they allowed it in BGT because Ankheg isn't metal or something. I believe they could not wear metal armour is the restriction, not can only wear leather.

It was probably just an early version of the concept, these sort of things tend to get rewritten once you start expanding them.

I think you gotta charm her pants off ( ) before you can talk to her. There's a related journal entry that says something like "this has nothing to do with our current adventure, but might come in handy in a sequel".

Magical Hiccup. It's funny because Tale's useless.

This is currently my favourite thread on this board and I feel it is my duty to go bumpity bump to get it back around the top of the page.

They chose MoCap because Motion Capture and Performance Capture are buzzwords right now. As someone who works with MoCap, I can't describe how many idiots come along trying to get their cartoony, three foot walking blob character MoCapped by people who have, you know, human proportions. Of course, most MoCap companies need the work, so they don't tell them that they'll spend more time retargeting than they would have spent hand-animating it, and then the client decides that MoCap doesn't work and never works with them again even though they're the ones who didn't think it through.

Gnolls are relatively low-XP, and that stronghold is tedious as hell. (Although, I also recall that one of the stat-boosting Tomes is down there.) Hrm, fair enough. I vaguely remember leveling up in there, but like I said, my experience with BG1 is mostly that I played it to complement BG2, I don't think I finished it more than once. Maybe there's some quest XP if you bring Minsc to find Dynaheir, I guess.

I agree with Deraldin, Dexterity is pretty important in BG, plus aren't you missing out on quite some experience and gold kills if you don't go to the Gnoll Stronghold? What rules does your version use regarding HP on level up? Is it the random number from BG1 and is Tale just unlucky, or does his constitution plus his class just make for a marshmellow (soft and easily flattened)?

Elf archers in BG are pretty much munchkinning without actual effort. What's going on with the Mirrored Eyes potions? I've never actually used them, then again I've only played BG once or twice and that was quite a while ago. I usually skip it altogether and go straight to BG2.

Ouch. That's a decent rate, how long is the Shortlist? Can I be a Shapeshifter once the moment comes?

Watched the Anime movie Paprika. I feel vaguely like I just survived a murder attempt. It tried to confuse me to death. Looked great though.

The funny things thread
Uh while I don't speak Dutch I'm pretty confident to say that the text is fake. Well, I speak Dutch and I can tell you throughout the translated english version is actually milder than the Dutch version.

On the upside, the capabilities of the actors were a lot better then the original. On the down side, they went with a "my name is conan, you killed my father, prepare to die!" storyline. I think thats what lost it a lot of points. The dialogue was the standard ropey sword & sandal type, but it looked fairly decent and they obviously worked at trying to deliver their lines with real intent. Some of the fight scenes got a bit messy and hectic. I'd have liked to have seen where they'd have taken it with a sequel, but that's kind of doubtful now. It looked good, but it had no tension. I think that's the biggest problem with this movie. Despite his godlike status, Khalar never seemed like he would be a match for Conan. All in all, I enjoyed it for being truly a B-movie, but while The Scorpion King felt like a bad version of Ahnuld's Conan, this one felt a lot like a worse version of The Scorpion King. At least that movie didn't take itself so damn seriously while doing things so incredibly silly.
