  1. Looked like it just kinda bounced up against a hand that was already there to me, from the slowmo replay. The player even got startled by it touching him, like "wtf just happened?". But maybe I'm inherently biased or something? I wouldn't rule that out, though I'm trying to be objective. Hard call to make, especially on the field. Just saying it looked accidental and unavoidable to me, personally. EDIT: This is not one of the calls I find the refs lacking for, to clarify. It was a tough call. I find the refs lacking because this game was almost ridiculously physical (from both sides) and almost never did they catch anything.
  2. Credit where credit's due, Jaded - the Dutch were pretty physical on their own end. Ref was awful, though. Exciting game. Caihill's goal was amazing and Australia started out playing better but failed to utilize their chances and switched players ended up sliding the balance into Oranje's favor (with Depay in particular earning his keep more than any other player on the field). Wonder who will replace Van Persie since his second yellow means he's suspended for the next game. Yet my favourite moment was Leckie (I hope I'm spelling his name right) his hilarious dive. Give that man a Razzie for his trouble! EDIT: I gotta say, seeing an after game replay, that handball call wasn't warranted at all.
  3. Yeah, the only Let's Player that readily comes to mind that does a lot of RPGs is ChristopherOdd, but his channel is pretty small.
  4. Haha, what a ridiculous dive! Nice moment of comedy.
  5. Spain wasn't so much a show of how good Oranje was as it was a show of how awful Spain is. One, so far, at that horrific giveaway you mentioned. I could feel the entire audience collectively clenching their butt at that one. :D
  6. Are there any YouTubers that really do well for RPGs? Pretty much any YouTuber I watch does multiplayer strategy or horror/novelty games.
  7. Looks like the second half is going to be even more unfriendly than the first.
  8. Awesome goal, one of the best in the tournament. Game could stand to be more friendly, though. Bit too much pushing and pulling from both sides. EDIT: Wow, Oranje's defense is in shambles. Well, not entirely in shambles, but they have no grip on the midfield.
  9. Maybe he has Jedi reflexes, he knows where he needs to be before it happens.
  10. we knew this were coming. *sigh* there isn't any such place. really. sure, there is places in sub-saharan africa where rape happens frequently, but even there it is considered a bad thing. murder also happens in such places. just 'cause it happens frequent, don't think the people there is unaware that rape is bad. yeah, we suspect there was, in the distant past, times and places where women were considered less than human. and there Is some cultures even today wherein women is considered little better than property, but rape is still considered a violation in such places. exception: even today there is a suprising wide held belief that a wife cannot be raped by a husband, but again, am doubting obsidian would engage in such nonsense. *shrug* regardless, we knew some yutz would try the moral relativism shtick. grats. HA! Good Fun! As much as I wish it was true, I'm not sure that is entirely accurate.
  11. Reminds me of Nick Cage for some reason.
  12. Isn't this thing from StarCraft?
  13. That looks so familiar yet I can't place it. Where is it from?
  14. It may be fine to discuss topics such as rape and pedophilia in literature or literature classes but this board is meant to be somewhat more age appropriate than that (PoE will be rated for age-appropriateness by whoever rates games, but this board is not rated). We try not to enforce that too much but this thread is walking a very fine line as it is so I would prefer it if we could move to a somewhat less dark and controversial topic than an in-depth discussion on sexual violence in media, because I'm afraid we will probably have to close this thread if that doesn't happen.
  15. I think it's been confirmed there are no romances.
  16. Just because they're able to not shy away from it doesn't mean there will be a lot of it, which is good because Game of Thrones is freaking ridiculous with it's sexposition scenes.
  17. Well, it has eight legs, so it's surely not an insect. It surely looks like an arachnid. In fact, it looks like an Amblypygid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amblypygi It's still welcome in this thread though! Just... Keep it away from the actual insects a bit. It's giving them funny looks. It's a Thelyphonid, apparently. An arachnid, so not an insect. Here's the Dobsonfly to make up for my mistake.
  18. Screw canon, headcanon is always superior. Anyway, did we actually find out the Jedi purposefully, forcefully mind-wiped Revan? I was under the impression that Malak's betrayal permanently damaged Revan's mind (Bastila mentions something about there not being much left to save) and the Jedi implanted a new identity to keep him alive, and that they were able to give him an identity that might lead them to the secret of the Sith power was just a happy coincidence. I've always favored this view since the Jedi mind-wiping someone makes them seem rather evil. It doesn't seem like a Jedi thing to do.
  19. That's German efficiency for you.
  20. Not a spider. Possibly correct that it's not an insect, though - I don't know if it does fall under the arachnid order.
  21. I have to admit I find the decision to not show stuff to backers to be questionable at best. Even when I google it I can't find any clear coverage of the E3 demo, as if backers aren't allowed to see it or anything related to it at all. I am aware Obsidian was concerned about spoilers, but any sort of preview for the backers would have been good. EDIT: I don't know if everyone has seen BAdler's response, so I wanted to post it again so everyone could see the reasoning behind the choice not to show it to backers. You may not agree with it, but it is what it is: "Since this has grown into a contentious point, I wanted to address it. We will not be showing a video of the demo. The footage has quite a few spoilers in it and it isn't ready to show to the backers yet. We want to show you guys something much more polished and we aim to do that sometime between now and our backer beta. Just so you guys are aware, it will likely be closer to the backer beta. When we show you things, we want it to be the real deal - no hacked together footage or faked content. I can remember seeing the gameplay video for Shadowrun Returns and being hyped up over all of the cool stuff I was seeing... only to be let down when a lot of that stuff never made it into the final game. I want to make sure that from this point on, if we are showing something to you guys it is representative of how it will be in the game. To do that means we have to focus a large amount of polish on a very specific area we want to show. This ends up hurting other areas in the game because they will tend to get less polish overall. We did have to do this for the E3 demo, but because we were showing off a few key areas, it is work we had to do anyways. Since we will show you something off of the critical path, it means we need to be much more careful over what get shown. When we get more information about showing gameplay you will hear about it from us first. No need to speculate. That said, I know that some of you are disappointed that we are showing gameplay to the press first. While you may not agree with our reasons for doing it, please know that we are showing to the press in this manner because we feel it is the best for the game. I will try to explain those reasons in more detail in the next update. I know we sound like a bit of a broken record, but we truly do appreciate the support you guys have given us - in helping to fund the game and in giving us feedback. Thanks for everything." - BAdler
  22. I think if mainstream gamers don't read written media anymore, and mainstream gamers don't play text-based, system heavy RPGs anymore, that leaves the door completely wide open as to how effectively this will work for Obsidian. A game like this, crowdfunded and built outside the system, has never been at E3 before. You simply cannot know how effective it will be. This is all new territory in an industry that's rapidly changing. Obsidian was going to E3 anyway for Armored Warfare. It's absurd to say Obsidian should have kept PoE away from it when they had an essentially free oppertunity to take it along and show off their baby for all the journalists and fellow developers to see: "hey, look at this cool stuff we made without dealing with all the publisher nonsense you guys have to deal with". If anything, that goes a much longer way into changing the industry than a 4 million kickstarter that barely registers as a blip on the radar for giant publishers dealing with 300 million budgets. This is what I really have a problem with (well, other than the first post constantly replacing I and me with us and we). You keep saying Obsidian has changed or will change their vision of the game to appeal to the masses, to pander to the E3 crowd. There is absolutely no evidence of this. It's hipster nonsense about "selling out". The entire point of the Kickstarter for Obsidian was to make their artistic vision come to fruition and they have no publisher hanging over their head that can go "people at E3 disliked this part, you better change it". Obsidian is in full creative control. Like I said, Obsidian was going to E3 anyway, they took PoE with them because they wanted to show it off, not because they wanted to gauge journalist reactions. Obisidian knows who their audience is.
  23. Disclaimer: Obsidian is not responsible for the projections and expectations of people who decided Obsidian should change the world when all they said was "give us money and we'll make you one cool game". As far PoE not appealing to anyone at E3, I think you were out of luck from the start. During the media coverage of the actual Kickstarter, a significant amount of industry journalists backed the project. They were just as excited about the game as you were - it appealed to them from the very beginning.
