1. Some breaking controversy right now - nVidia driver default settings appear to be overriding in-game quality settings to improve performance at the cost of image quality. When the setting is changed from default to max quality, the performance drop is about 10%. Titan X's lead over the Fury X (which respects the in-game settings and is rendering at maximum quality) at sub-4k resolutions? About 10%. The reviewer at HardOCP has confirmed that they test with all control panel settings at default, so it's definitely a factor that's affected at least some reviews - will be interesting to see as reviewers now don't typically post this kind of information in the actual reviews. Stolen side-by-side comparison from Anandtech forums: Fury X vs Titan X Titan X High Quality vs Default settings
2. The interaction between the simulated alien pathing with the Unreal engine's live line-of-sight calculations made for the lion's share of bugs XCOM had on launch. The "good" news then is that from what we can see, the design of those mechanics are pretty much unchanged in XCOM2, likely sharing most of the codebase, so that aspect of the game should launch in a fairly mature state. P.S. For games like this which I strongly look forward to, I'll typically spend the first part of the day getting people's first impressions of it and reading a couple of reviews, then either buy a physical copy during my lunch break, or buy a digital copy when I get home.
3. The tweak was to edit .\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\platform\pc\platformgameplay.ini - change the left stick sensitivity to 1.0. Made this change with the launch version of the game, so not sure if subsequent patches have changed anything.
4. On the one hand, it would be unfair for me to judge because I haven't played DA3 past the tutorial. On the other hand ....I haven't been able to play DA3 past the tutorial.
5. Well Squeenix were disappointed at the sales of the previous game, so I guess they want to give it the best possible chance to succeed ....wait what?
6. Well Obsidian can't realistically sell Avellone as a stretch goal if he works for them. Now they can!
7. Not fond of the interdimensional stuff in general, though I know it's pretty core to the books. Way more interested in the war and the affairs surrounding it, Witcher neutrality be damned.
8. Well there are two things that stop me pursuing alchemy in a serious way, but I think if resolved I'd totally do it over a pure swords build. One is the common complaint of having to go deep into your inventory just to swap out bombs and potions. The other is the meditation requirement to refill them, which leads to be immersion-breaking method of meditating after every fight. I think the latter could be fixed with no balancing implications by letting you do the same thing without meditating, when outside of combat.
9. It shows how much we've been spoiled in the past by AMD advancing the value proposition that we're disappointed that they've merely caught up to nVidia this round. the 980Ti, as of this second, is probably the better product, but the wildcard is whether Fury gains enough over the coming months to overtake it. It's not an improbable expectation: as a more experimental, less mature product, there's more scope for it to gain performance from driver updates, and the other factor is that at the moment it's voltage locked, we have no idea how much overclocking headroom it has once voltages can be tweaked. To be fair it's a legitimate gripe in that the product effectively does nothing new for now in terms of the consumer market, whereas previous releases, though perhaps technically less impressive, have really made waves by forcing a downward adjustment in all prices. The Fury will do no such thing as AMD seems content to merely price there products along the same price:performance curve established by nVidia. (This is also seen in the surprisingly high prices for the 390 series cards). The economic reality is probably that AMD can no longer afford to undercut to the degree they did back in the 4xxx and 5xxx series days, especially as the Fury is a large chip that is likely more expensive to fabricate than anything they've released previously.
10. First time I've ever heard the term "fathead wall cling".
11. At last a legitimate use for the Steam refund system.
12. Quick and strong attacks probably could use some more differentiation, and having the latter behave more like enemy attacks with huge weapons may be enough of a change to get rid of the "peasants blocking my every attack perfectly" problem. And conversely make the quick attack easier to chain perhaps, enemies probably recover their block while being quick attack chained too quickly. Admittedly though I'm mostly just setting people on fire, so I don't have any deep insight into pure swordplay.
13. What I really want though is to be able to equip the monocle.
14. Guess Cassandra's VA wouldn't have that problem. (In all seriousness though, I thought Cassandra's was one of the better crafted faces in DA3, female or otherwise. The face sculpting in the game is ....variable, so that's no small thing.)
15. People keep saying this, but what they've shown of the expansion was very specifically *not* dungeon crawling and they're adding new companions. I guess the trailer convinced everyone it's just a new dungeon? To be honest all I know about it is what was posted earlier in this thread, I haven't looked up any further information partly because my own PoE playthrough is on hold for Witcher.
16. It does seem rather needless for there to be a point-of-no-return failure state for quests relating to Triss, when she even outright says earlier that getting out of the city by herself is no issue. Plotwise there was no reason for her to be put on a bus.
17. Wait, what, XCOM mandatory DLC? Everyone I know plays with DLC disabled, unless by DLC you mean the Guile flat-top hair option. As for the pick of E3, I can't remember what was covered, but after perusing a handy list: Tier 1 aka I'd totally have preordered them if I ever preordered things: XCOM 2 - I bent my GOTY rules to give the previous game the award twice, so it goes without saying really. Deus Ex: Something Somethinged - Sounds like more of the bits I loved, and less of the bits I hated (which was unfortunately the game's core missions) Tier 2 aka Something would have to go disastrously wrong for me to not go for it not long after release: Dishonored 2 - Emily should have a personality, unlike Corvo, so the game's biggest issue is already instantly solved, right? Tier 3 aka I'm sure I'll get around to them eventually; or, Somewhat misleading heading because technically I already have ownership of two of them: Fallout 4 - Let the modders have early access to the current builds already, so we can get mods on day one, thanks. Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition - I'm not sure enough's changed for a second playthrough, but will get started at least. Pillars of Eternity: White March - I want less dungeoneering, not more, so kind of cold on this. Er, no pun intended. Yoshi's Woolly World - Dammit I just want that woolly amiibo to be honest. Tier 4 aka I might get bored sometime and look for something to do: Fire Emblem Fates - I haven't played a JRPG in years but was told if I were to start I should start with the previous game, but if I delay any longer I'll be forced to start with this. Just Cause 3 - I heard the previous game was some chaotic pointless fun? And that maybe it'll ship with multiplayer this time instead of modders tacking the feature on? Mass Effect 4 - I'd take stale and rehashed any day over offensive stupidity like the previous instalment. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam - I heard some people say the Paper Mario games are actually good games. Maybe it's time to stop ignoring them? Mirror's Edge - Not sure they're making the right noises about the direction this reboot is going, but still some latent interest in the concept. Rock Band 4 - Would require me to buy an Xbone, eh. South Park: Fractured But Whole - No idea what to expect, honestly. Super Mario Maker - My 10-year old self's dream product. Unfortunately that was over two decades ago. Tier 5 aka Actually E3 killed my interest in this game: No Man's Sky - I've heard people people hyping this to the, erm, sky. But then I saw the trailer and struggled to what the hell was the point of this game.
18. The PoE backer badges and the Obsidian Order things are pretty much that already, so I guess the next opportunity to support would be whenever the next Kickstarter is launched.
19. Ugh, because if there's one thing Bethesda games need more of, it's inventory bloat. I'm rather fond of the previous games' approach of there just being the one armour slot, none of this chest-legs-hands-etc business that belongs more in MMOs were grinding for gear is the primary motivation for keeping people playing.
20. Can't really compare Rocksmith to the rhythm game genre, they fundamentally set out to achieve different things. It's like comparing Euro Truck Simulator to Mario Kart, so it kind of does a disservice to both. Rocksmith is billed as "learn to play real guitar" generally succeeds at that, with an important caveat: it doesn't teach any musical theory, it just shows you how to play the songs. It doesn't concern itself with sheet music, or hell, even the concept of musical notes, but it neither does it expect you to know it. It just gets right into technique, hit these chords to play this song.
21. Don't you see, Fractured But Whole is a metaphor for how the Obsidian fractured when MCA was splintered off, but er, has been restored somehow.
22. I bought Skyrim some 5-6 months after its release. I don't regret buying it, but neither do I regret buying it late. This will probably be a re-run of that situation, especially as the planned release date is pretty much the same, just four years later. Besides, November is XCOM month.
23. I want to play as Vernon Roche, who I have an irrational fondness for. Instead of magical Signs, which he obviously wouldn't be able to cast, you should be able to select from multiple taunts, curses and other general profanity which would function in a similar way.
24. You don't fool me, Mr. Luthor.
25. At least the male-only protagonist rumour was debunked. Though now I see claims that it was genuine but that the backlash may have led to a change of heart.
