Might & Magic X Teased by Ubisoft, To Be Revealed at PAX East
Humanoid replied to Infinitron's topic in Computer and Console
Yep, and also mostly replaces the utility of the dog (though it has a secondary perk of -25% difficulty on actually opening the secret door). God that spell/mechanic was one of the worst design decisions in the game. -
I tried to play it when the game was 10 years newer than it is now and couldn't get past Liberty Island, so yeah, that's my admission.

Games don't tend to handle multitasking well though. So for a properly elegant solution, you'd need an ingame browser. This can be justified in-universe for contemporary and future settings (why do you think Shepard has a private terminal?), but somewhat difficult to implement in traditional fantasy.

I'd like to say there's no nude mod for Dwarf Fortress, but I'm not game enough to Google it.

Pfft, that was just a ripoff of Ultima Underworld and its Slasher of Veils.

Yes, it is. It's a bit weird how the quests are built like that. On the one hand I hate it in many RPGs where you can't get certain quest items until you actually have the quest. But this approach in this is messy when combined with the class-exclusive quests, especially since the game outright tells you what these quests are about and highlights the quest items when you're in the relevant zone. I was baffled by the game telling me I should use the Hidden Scrolls and Mayneri's Pendant in the Crag when I couldn't find anyone to accept them, both of those turned out to be promotion quests. I'd say the older games' approach of letting you complete the quests anyway, making you an "honorary" Archmage or Archdruid or whatever, was a reasonable compromise that should be brought back. -
I don't see how that helps, a hammer isn't generally used as a thrusting weapon.

The game lets you continue after finishing the main plot. -
Might be a choice of B, C, or DD.

I hate dungeons but the overarching concept is interesting enough for me to keep an eye on (kind of how I felt about Rogue Legacy). If they can guarantee the DRM-free option I'd probably make a goodwill pledge regardless.

Cheer up, you're still far too pretty to accurately cosplay an Oblivion NPC.

I felt DA:O was Bioware trying to get back on the horse but falling over in the process, getting their foot stuck in the stirrup and being dragged around by the horse who had promptly bolted (resulting in DA2 and ultimately ME3). So now the problem is twofold in that hopefully the hospital scans will show that nothing got so broken so badly that it'd never heal properly (loss of the docs), and that they haven't developed a post-traumatic fear of horses as a result. Okay, tortured analogy over. I apologise in advance.

No date yet, but the upcoming patch will apparently include three new dungeons. https://mightandmagicx-legacy.ubi.com/opendev/blog/post/view/information-about-upcoming-patch -
Heh, I've never actually seen the phenomenon ever down here in any context. Although there apparently is a PAX Australia now.....

Well, yes, branding on clothing is free advertising too, but the difference is that proper human billboards generally spend their time wearing that get-up while doing something relevant to that get-up, i.e. stand outside a store and try not to look too bored. I haven't seen any cosplayers in their game outfits while buying their groceries or going out for coffee.
-
They're like human billboards for a new age. Except that human billboards generally get paid for it. I might be a hypocrite though, I'd gladly wear an "Ask me about LOOM" button.

As posted way back when, I backed this with no intention of actually playing the game - just as a favour to Brian. Needless to say, despite the decision having no personal consequence, it's a disappointing way to go about things and ensures there will be no repeat. To clarify, the problem here isn't that Steam is an option, or even the promoted option, but that they're asking backers to make a decision *now* while remaining wholly noncommittal to what alternative platforms may be added later. Hell, why is it even a decision in the first place? A non-zero number of people will request DRM-free, so they'll have to host it somehow regardless. Just provide both versions, no exceptions. There's precedent enough for this. The Banner Saga for example launched on Steam first, but said release came with the promise that the DRM-free version was coming (and is now available) and that redeeming a Steam key would not disqualify the backer from getting DRM-free afterwards. Likewise, for all the controversy over Shadowrun Returns, HBS were perfectly fine in allowing backers to get both the Steam and DRM-free versions without locking each other out. Is it some paranoia over potential lost sales? That doesn't even make any sense.

Mine's pretty simple: more levels. Abduction missions have by far the best variety, but as you get further into the game they mostly stop. The other mission types have the big problem of being both limited in map variety and have some balance issues to boot. You end up doing Exalt missions as often as Abductions yet the latter has an order of magnitude more maps. I'd also say that pretty much *all* UFO and alien-base type levels need to be overhauled to get rid of ramps and silly diagonal walls - indeed that's true of all levels: the engine just can't cope with line-of-sight when these elements are in play. Many of the smaller levels also need to be somewhat enlarged, because the game does not scale the number of aliens to the size of the map and ends up trying to squeeze over a dozen aliens into an area the size of a small house. And of course it's well past the time they fixed the dumb bugs in certain maps that incorrectly detect LoS, screw up the calculation of cover, and mess up alien pathing. (There are also some very specific map bugs, like the flooded street map where the first pack of aliens always starts activated) My primary non-map complaint would be how the late game devolves into a simple case of massing firepower. The early game is at its best when you have a mix of clever defensive positioning, audacious flanks and general use and destruction of cover. The late game involves aliens who don't use cover and instead have passive always-on defense bonuses, massive hitpoints and a bunch of tools which often make cover irrelevant. It's boring, lazy encounter design.

What might put a dampener on things is that by the time VR gaming becomes a thing, it'll also be at the point in time when Google watches, records, and forever stores your every move. Oh wait, that's already happened.

The balance is somewhere in between. Generally that kind withholding that kind of thing (digital extras) can get a developer money for no additional fulfilment cost, which is great in that it's theoretically 100% going into development costs of the game. I think the point here though is that a novella might serve as effectively free advertising for the property, and so there actually is a rational business case for maximising its distribution. Maybe even publishing it free on their website. But that's a bridge long since crossed.

I just wanted to say something to Obsidian
Humanoid replied to Tspawncamper's topic in Obsidian General
Y'know this just reminded me, it's actually 10 years to the day today that these forums were opened up for the public. That's 10 years ago today that I filled out some form and clicked some confirmation email to register here. So thanks Obsidian for that too. HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY FORUMS! EDIT: 2001st post to mark the new decade, total coincidence I swear! -

From a powergaming perspective however, screw the relics, get randomly generated 'relentless' weapons. The only real downside versus relics is the chance for them to break, but even at 90%/75% effectiveness, they'd still outperform any relic. -

Hunters and Scouts, as long as you're not tricked into putting points into their ranged weapon skills instead of their GMable melee weapon skills, are interchangable with pure melee classes for 90% of the game. They are, after all, essentially Blade Dancers but for the dual-wielding skill being capped at Master instead of Grandmaster. The promoted Blade Master will run away towards the end with some insane kill streaks however, what with the free-action killing blows. The game is currently balanced that these three classes are probably the top three damage-dealing classes possible, so if you're looking for a challenge by using the hybrids, you'll probably not find it here. Indeed I'd say challenge mode is playing with no dual-wielding classes at all (and Keyrock is already doing that apparently, so I'm not sure where he'd go for more challenge ). -
But can you bake bread using blood?
