Sorry, Elerond, but it's not. Not yet (do hope we are heading there though). Even the theoretical part is questionable - point mutations within the living cell is a very resent thing, while practical (in case of human) is close to impossible: all these experiments require a lost of repetitions, one success out of very many is the lucky event. But one that survives and continue to develop, yet maintaining changes - is a miracle. How many human embrions one can get to experiment on? So far it's in the same league with head transplantation. People have successfully inserted new DNA in plants and animal genomes which mean that it can be also be done for human genome, but because it is complex operation which can easily go wrong and it doesn't necessarily give beneficial results it is quite unlikely that anybody would get permission to do human trials in near future let alone it would actually used to do anything meaningful. But anyway we know that it is possible to add or remove DNA from any genome including human genome and use that genome to grow new thing, but change to do unintended changes which can lead to make genome unsuitable to produce living thing. And experimentation becomes even more difficult when you can have only small number of test subject at time and it takes at least 9 months to see if genome change actually did the thing that you wanted to achieve. One big ongoing HIV cure research projects which is closing human trials is looking way to use genome editing to cut genetic material of HIV from human genome and same time change in the genome would give immunity for HIV. In this study changes are only meant to do in cells that have been infected by HIV. https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/genome-editing-cuts-out-hiv-37148 https://www.jax.org/news-and-insights/jax-blog/2016/july/battling-hiv-with-crispr Things you mentioned (and linked) have nothing to do with single gene modification in an embrio. For now it's a direction to move on but far from an end point. So, no, I do not believe that scientist truly altered genes in those embrions (and there are no evidences supporting his claim either, which is mentioned in the paper). So, moralists can sleep safe and sound - it's not here yet. And official science will not get there any time soon. There is always biohacking, of course, like DIYbio, but as much as I want human gene modification happen, I would not hope to see it happening for real.

First-person shooter :(
Mirandel replied to Mirandel's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I suppose it depends on how the character is designed. Borderlands are multiplayer game, which means that from outside they had to look somewhat decent. Even if the character is fully modeled (important question - can you see your legs in OW?) he might look very much like this: Would agree for any weird TPP - still better than no TPP at all. -

Was so upset over the news even missed the obvious thread and started my own. FoV sliders do help some of us but it is far from a panacea, in many cases this is not enough. Optional third person view saved many Bethesda games for me, but not many companies bother to do such courtesy to motion sensitive gamers
-
Why, Osidian, why?! What have we - people with motion sickness - ever done to you to deserve that?! First Cyberpunk 2077, now you. Second sci-fi game I will have to skip next year. And again, from the company I trusted and never expected such a blow Please, at least consider the addition of third person view too for your next game! Can not say how it translates to the sales but it sure makes a lot of people happy.

I'm pretty certain that it means that you can't send a patient to get help fighting their cancer with beetroot juice and garlic for their HIV infections. This! Steve Jobs is a good example of homeopathy in cancer treatment. I also understood the article as by "nutrition" they meant all those active additives ("slimming", "cleaning" and so on) half of which are pure poison.
-
To counter that horror story, some governments begin to suspect that something is amiss here: No more homeopathy on the Spanish national health service Do hope the trend will continue!

If you indeed feel like that, it means mega-corporations succeeded in their campaign to indoctrinate the gamers. "Games as services" is much more convenient for corporations, hence populous better begin to believe it's exactly what populous wants. eh, dunno mang. i feel this is more driven by consumer culture in general. i suspect devs and games publishers would rather deal with happy, fluffy fandom people drawing fanart (ie free advertising) than get dealt scars for not meeting 100,000 unique and poorly communicated service level agreements. Actually, EA voiced the desire to make "games as service" since now on in response to complains about Viceral closer. Other studios used the momentum to say "single player games are here to stay", but since then everything you see around is advertisement of the games with services attached, that can be run a la MMO.

I suspect OP meant NWN2 with both DLCs. Count MotB included.

Hm... If that "someone" have never played isometric DnD-like games before and began with PK, I would expect that person to run away screaming and swearing to never touch this kind of the games again, rather than searching for "something like that but more polished". People are inclined to generalize and extend one random experience over everything remotely similar. However, I am the one who learned to appreciate everything about PoE2 that much more after the PK experience. If I did have anything negative to say about PoE2 before, PK made if disappear completely, I do not even remember what it was. So, I would totally expect some players to re-write their reviews after PK, but would not search for the newcomers because of it.

Because the consequences will become very serious as early as 2030. Actually, 2030 is also a "point of no return" - when changes will become irreversible. By this time, though, drought, hurricanes, floods, diminishing of areas of fertile soils for agriculture and so on will be severe enough already to bother even the "first-est" of the first world countries. Here is another CNN digest that contains links to the scientific reports: https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/07/world/climate-change-new-ipcc-report-wxc/index.html

Still have that piglet, Oner? (ESO Vanity Pet: Bristlegut Piglet and 15 days of ESO Plus) . If you do not need him, would love to add him a new home

Have to admit - if Obsidian games would become microsoft store exclusive, yet remain "obsidian", I might consider switching to win10 (though nothing will force me to move to the console). But for Obsidian's sake will hope they do not switch to "exclusives". Happy for the team, though. They are all legends of game world.

Correction: while you are "collecting money" your beloved sister is tortured there (you have cut scenes about it regularly). And if sister is not beloved (and god knows there are a lot of people who hates concept of Imoen) - your enemy is plotting something terrible and getting stronger every minute. Not to mention second part of the game when you are dying because your soul is stolen and Irenicus is about to destroy the world, but you can safely finish all the quests left from previous chapters and pick up new one on the way. I'm afraid I do not know the game with the right time pressure. SWTOR may be - all the stories are designed to give you some push but not over pressure. But it general this is the way non-linear games worked from the start.
-
Finished and on the second run now (do not count many, many restarts in search for "true" watcher for Deadfire). Loved every minute of it. I can find something that could be adjusted into more pleasing for me ways (like 5 companions instead of 4) but it would be a nitpicking. Do not understand this "the story is awful because time pressure is voluntarily" thing. First of all, it's not the story, it's pacing you are talking about, second - it was like that since BG (I am sure even earlier): you are on a very urgent mission but can safely forget about it for as long as you want. Any game that inflict the real time pressure gets beaten for it. PoE let's you play the way you want: you want to stick to the line - you get it, you want to explore - feel free to do so. Freedom and personal choices. The plot in the game is great! The scenery is amazing. When my group first met Eothas (not "in the book" but face to face) - it felt absolutely epic! And so much depends of your choices, that pressure can be overwhelming. Probably there are more factors to my admiration - Pathfinder made me appreciate everything about PoE2 so much more, for example, and late Autumn is the time when one wants to see bright colors, sandy beaches and warm water at least on the screen, but I simply can not get enough of Deadfire.

Thank you, kind sir! THAT was the filter I missed - it indeed was labeled to show only my content All fixed now!

Was not sure where to post it but I have a weird error on the forums: for the last few days when I press "View New Content" on the top right corner of the screen, all I see is one topic started by me, not all the new posts there are. Is there some setting I can not find to change it? Or something did happened with the forums?

Many thanks! Now I know who to follow for good characters. Can not say I do not like any of them - all are distinctive enough to be interesting in it's own way. But in a new cast Serafen amazed me with his very thorough and convincing vocabulary - not a single false note! And some of companions suffer from VA Not that it's bad - no! it's good! - but, for example, Maia's voice actress is everywhere voicing half of the female NPCs, sadly, without as much as changing even her tone, making Maia sound generic. Still, like them all!

Pathfinder Kingmaker is bigger then Deadfire
Mirandel replied to no1fanboy's topic in Computer and Console
To blatand. Just change Pathfinder to Patchfinder. Good one. Though, to be fair, you do not have to search for patches, they are coming by itself regularly. The ability to patch something without breaking old stuff - that is another matter. -
We have that wonderful topic for PoE1: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/74557-companions-who-wrote-what/ and I would really love to know the same thing about PoE2. (Why? Curiosity and for the future fan-followings ) I'd say whoever wrote Serafen deserves a medal just for his speech-pattern alone. Edér must be still Eric Fenstermaker (and Edér as great as ever, of course). But who else?

Pathfinder Kingmaker is bigger then Deadfire
Mirandel replied to no1fanboy's topic in Computer and Console
I suspect there is a typo in the topic title. It should read "Pathfinder Kingmaker is (much, much) bugger then Deadfire Sadly, that old joke is still true. -
Really? I kind of thought getting off from the Wheel of Saṃsāra is the whole point of Buddhism. But I am not a religious person, might mix it up with something else. Well, what can you expect when you - without any explanation! - disrupt the order ot the things people used to? I think even the artificial origin of the "gods" still is not really known among kith. On the other hand, destruction from Eothas is a common knowledge (you can even help to stage the play about it). So, help to that murderer must be seen as something very bad. True. But in order to create the "gods" Engwithian had to have enough of raw material, produced by the wheel. Plus, "gods" were supposed to be fed by the wheel and operate it. Would be logical to create the food source first. And was not creation of the gods the last act of Engwithian? But, yes, it's still just a deduction. So hope for some DLC with cut off lines! I would love to hear more about those events. You do not need a unity of nations to create something. Nuclear bomb was created in one country, and people who barely familiar with electricity can still use Iphones all around the globe. Engwithian were just one race, I think? So, all that is needed is for someone (one!) to find a solution. Quite a reasonable expectation Agree. The plan itself is more "passionate" than "reasonable". Like when you see you can not do anything to change the order of things but the very order is so atrosious you have to break it! Still, there is a very reasonable hope new order can be better (if eventually). Metaturtle has already answered, but in that quest there is a group of godlike pirates (!) and we see there right away 2 Moon godlikes - a captain and a simple sailor (very simple) without any special connection with Ondrah. Even more so, simpleton is killed right away (again, without a hint of Onrah interest to the evens).
