  1. That's all in Atlantis, SG1 is MUCH better than atlantis.
  2. There is a higher level of horror, but the combat and enemies got dumbed down a bit (there is however more of them). There are less in the way of controls.
  3. God I'm happy, just got my first two grades back on tests (in wildly different subjects) and got an A (94%, I could have gotten a 96 if I had remembered to add the death of a fetus to the definition of Murder)in administration of Justice, and a B (85.2%) in my geology class!
  4. ... I'm going to speak as the resident faux expert about suicidal tendencies and depression in general here, but it sounds like you're not clinically depressed necessarily, but rather your on edge because you're going back to a situation that you are worried won't be the same. I don't know what to call it but you've got anxiety about returning to University, and it's probably aggravated by the fact that you don't have anyone to lean on or tell you that it'll all be OK. I'm not saying you're weak or anything, just that you're going through a rough period because you're changing your current life and shifting a little out of your comfort zone. It might be the other way around with the loneliness being the primary cause and the fact that you're going back to school generating more stress in you that's setting you on edge, probably the snappiness and other quick to temper behaviors will died down after the school semester (trimester? Quarter!?) begins and you start getting back into the swing of student life. I would suggest if the problem persists after you've gotten back into school (and hopefully made some friends) you try to hit up a psychologist or psychiatrist so that they can root through your feelings and find exactly what is causing this and help you overcome it (if it's because of an external problem like loneliness) or give you drugs to treat it (if it's because your neurology backfired and you're clinically depressed). Honestly some of what you're saying rang true for me back when I started the semester. Fear at being the older guy in the class, added to the fact that I didn't know if I would be able to change my study habits (which had been abysmal for most of my school career), and that my only friends IRL, always KNEW that they were right in any "questionable" territory (politics, and values.. they're diametrically opposed to my political and value systems) and only really would socialize with me via World of Warcraft anymore. Alot of that went away when two things happened, One school started and my fears at being the old guy (relatively here) were put to rest when one of the students in each of my classes had 3 kids and a degree in another subject, and Two the drugs that I'm being shifted two kicked in and my mind started working rather than me having to literally force myself to do stuff, I just did it. Now I've got enough motivation and the right mindset to actually make school work for me... Boy I went WAYYY of track at the end there, this is about you not me. Anyway, Just something I want you to understand, Getting help doesn't make you anything less of a human being. If you start to enter a "death spiral" quickly find yourself a mental health professional and get talking to them. Usually they can root out the problem/make you confront what's putting you on edge pretty fast and get you fixed up (assuming that you don't have a persistent condition like Bipolar or clinical Depression)
  5. I was going through project origin and noticed that anyone named Jankowski dies very quickly in the games. I was wondering if you guys had noticed trends like this in the naming of characters and their eventual roles.
  6. Project Origin. It's an OK shooter, the enemies take more cover than those in most FPS's but not as much as COD4 or it's predecessor. The gore got ramped up (with entire sectors of levels being bloodier than the "I think something got very angry here" scene in FEAR). But thus far the enemies go down like wet spaghetti, but the fire effects are awesome and you get a freaking flamethrower. They also got better at putting horror and shooting together so that there isn't the protracted segments of being haunted that give way to heavy segments of gunplay. Rather the segments get shorter, and the horror is often just flashes that show an apparition of Alma or one of her toys.
  7. When have they ever just shut down a server for a major company like that? People worry too much. I posted two links few posts ago about MS and Sony shutting down their DRM servers, it would be not 1st time when obsolete business was shot down when new one emerged to save money. Except that those appeared to be in the Music sector rather than the games side of things. You present those and I reverse with Itunes (which is still going strong). The biggest thing about Music micro transactions is that people are putting them on their Ipods mainly, or their computer. The former can only get songs from Itunes (as far as I know, I wouldn't understand why it would take a competitors music) and the latter probably would just pirate the music anyway. Games are different in that there isn't ONE set unit that is used primarily as your player. Instead all computers can use steam and thus have an ultimately larger market share than either of the servers you posted could probably hope to reach.
  8. I just wanted to mention that currently people seem to be developing games with the steam architecture in mind. EG, you HAVE to have steam to run these games (Anything from Valve, FEAR2, DOW2 are the major ones I can think of off the top of my head) and thus I believe that they won't shut down Steam for a long while because they don't want to anger the customers and loose a significant portion of their market.
  9. ESRB: Game experience may change during online play. Except for the fact that God of War also had boobies too. Most of the female antagonists (mainly Gorgons) were displaying their chests. And according to the first games commentary section on their enemy design, the Cyclops used to have his genitalia hanging out but they finally covered/removed that.
  10. In open office how does one get a song to play over the entire slide show, Right now I can only get it to play on one slide.
  11. God of War is the only game I've ever known to actually have shots of the human breasts... (well AOC had that but it died faster than you can say smarf!). In all honestly I admit that had I been on the ESRB I'd probably have either slated it for AO or rebuilt the M and AO boundary line.
  12. You've never heard of estonia? the tiny former soviet country that's on the leading edge of where russia is now?
  13. Ugh, that would've ruined it for me.. I thought it was much more interesting that you intially started with all abilities unlocked - in fact I was really dissapointed that they took them all away after the first mission. The Prince of Persia approach is much more appealing to me in these kind of games.. (I haven't played PoP, but I heard that you start with all abilities and then you have to discover them yourself) RPGs and their levelling systems are great too, I just don't like to merge them with action adventure games. Are you referring to the sands of time trilogy or the newest PoP? Because the newest one simply leads to boredom in combat because of the amount of QTE's and the fact that you don't get any new combos or differences between areas.
  14. I always preferred the RA2 tayna myself. And as I mentioned two minutes before the other one got locked, I've just started an Episode 2 game, and find that Vortogons KICK ASS against things.
  15. Now that I think about it it seems like the comic book industry and the Video games industry are going to be running on very similar tacts. By this I mean that both are covered by a governing agency that is over protective, and eventually a game will try to do something thats out of bounds (according to the ESRB) but is done in such a manner that the industry as a whole will toss the ESRB into a trash can. The biggest hurdle that is in the way about Content right now is that the ESRB has laws currently based around its ratings where as the CCA doesn't (for example the "you can't sell M rated games to minors" laws).
  16. Started playing HL2 Ep2. I'd forgotten how fun it is to watch Vortogons go berzerk all over the place (they mop the floor with an army of ant lions rather quickly) then they become drug junkies for the "Larval Extract".
  17. I was one of the lucky ones that just called in and was told not to come (probably because they plea bargained.)
  18. College, though I remember almost none of it. After that one term, I had no reason to ever use it. :/ Interesting how foreign language can possibly play a role in video games. The more you know...
  19. Finally, we can expect PETA to be eaten. You know how most of our parents were jhoping we;d not turn out homosexual? I'm fine about that, but I worry about my kids being into animal rights. Animal rights is one thing, but PETA takes it way beyond the point of reason. (reminds me of a recent Zero Punctuation where he mentions releasing a lab creature that knows nothing about life in the wild, into the wild, and watch it get eaten in five minutes by a hawk.)
  20. From what I can tell, Fettel and the point man 2 years apart, Fettel according to the preorder stuff, is 30. I'll need to run back through the material but it makes sense given origin was started in the 70's and the game reportedly takes place in 08. Probably the weirdest thing about the original fear is that your aunt (technically) seemed younger than you were. The replicas are clones, but the ninja ones that have optic camouflage (that shows up as if they were wearing neon when in slow time) are actually earlier expiraments that had all their bones replaced with Aluminum replicas that make them lighter, faster and stronger. That's why some of the first intel you get in FEAR was about bone density and muscle mass in Zero-G. Guess I got some stuff wrong in my initial assessment. I'm just wondering how the hell alma is floating around when she was killed 20 years prior to the start of FEAR.
  21. Got my ADMJ test out of the way. Geology is tommarrow and I'm worried about that one (mainly because the guy makes the dang things so hard that he curves it almost in half, yes he's got a Doctorate), and Human Development on thursday, then a four day weekend (which isn't big to me because I've got fridays off anyway :shrugs:)
  22. I prefer the badass death knight to the blond pretty boy paladin, actually. I suggest you try some singleplayer maps as well, notably RDZ's This Wreckage. Quite possibly the only good singleplayer map to be found nowadays. Also, I really want to play CoD4 again. I'm trying to find it cheap for 10$ or so, seeing as its from 2007 and all. Saw it selling at $59.99 in Best Buy a few days ago I usually go to a small local game store. They sell stuff rather cheap when its old, like FEAR which I got for about 10 bucks after barely a year of release. Last I checked they sold CoD at 30$ max, and that was months ago. Hell, I could buy the entire Ace Combat series (8 games total) for about 60$, and they've also got a huge store of old game consoles like the N64. What's nice about this is it means World at War barely comes close to beating CoD4. Depends on the store, If you go to a larger retailer (Gamestop for example because I work there) you can pick it up for 35$ used before discounts (I haven't worked in a while so it might come up in something like a gameday sale, plus theres the gameinformer card) It may be lower than that but the general rule in used stuff is five dollars difference unless it comes back in droves to the point where we've got about 60 copies on our shelves. You might be able to find it a mom and pop shop or Dimple records or something for ALOT less.

  24. Welcome to political discussion on the internet, or anywhere else for that matter. obviously i missed something "angry" so the context is lost on me, but i think i understand the follow-up: we're retarded for doing so, right? taks I don't know what Wrath's second post said before "I'm wasting my time" but his first post caused a lot of ire.
  25. I personally LOVED the game. I wasn't bothered by the story, although some of the future bits could have been re-written for greater effect. And the combat could get really cool when you figured out how to counter with the hidden blade rather then the short sword or long sword. I do agree that it was almost impossible to die due to the MASSIVE synch bar, but I was ok with it. I think if they made more of the assassinations like the very very beginning of the game (more of a Prince of Persia style rather than the free roaming that we got) it would have been much better received over all. Also the whole bit where you had to charge through the "Kingdom" section to get to each city to begin with felt bad because once you got where you're going you'd just warp as soon as you left the home village. So in a sentance: Make assassinations more linear, and remove the kingdom.
