Large Hadron Collider successfully creates mini Big Bangs
Calax replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
No one's talking about compression. It's believed that it's possilble that the LHC might produce black holes, that's a fact. I didn't claim it was a scientific article. It does source scientific articles though. Just because you found one thing from Einstein biography that you consider wrong (and irrelevant btw) doesn't make the whole article incorrect. Anyway, I feel I'm taking this thread off topic. Feel free to drop this. It only references scientific articles to explain what something is, or when discussing what would happen after the matter. But the actual doomsday discussions were brought in via World Net Daily, Boston Globe, and "Letter to the Editor" type stuff. Not actual scientists. -
Well, The thing about ME2 is that it got bitten by the Fable 2 bug. Your entire quest is to find your party then it's "Up you're done sonny! Have an anti-climax!"
-
I didn't mean that it'd be ME3, but possibly a spin off like you mentioned, but still, my point stands that the rifle he's using looks exactly like the sniper rifles from the first.
-
I think it's ME. The rifle he's using looks like the lower level sniper rifles from the first game.

Large Hadron Collider successfully creates mini Big Bangs

Wait, isn't that the same paper that you posted earlier that uses extremely bias sources that are more opinion pieces or links to news pieces where their claim is "sourced" by an anecdote of somebody writing a letter? You know, the same one I refuted in the other thread about this? -

This is your problem. The micro black holes would dissipate before anything could enter them. Hawking has shown that there are these things appearing and disappearing all over the place, but they're to swift for scientists to try anything with them. If what you're saying is true Dagon, then in theory neutron stars just would keep growing in mass and convert into black holes once they hit the critical point... and yet they don't. -
With some re-working, a small amount, the epilogue for MGS4 would have worked. If they'd left out the "must tie up every single plot thread" from it and just left it as the moment between the characters, it would have been much better.

Although with something like the CDC you have a central group to deal with the public, and a specific chain of command that's easily in place, where as I'd guess that Aussies are gonna have a bit of a power struggle at the start of an epidemic as several groups try to horn in and get more funding by leading.

But was that cow genetically designed by scientists? Nope, just your average cow. -

Dagon... let me just put it this way, you have a better chance of being trampled by a cow than you do of being killed by something the LHC does. -
APB, which died after a grand total of 2 months operation, appears to be on it's way back with a new economic model for MMO's. Basically if you want you can play it for free, and if you wanna get serious weapons right out of the gate, you can but/rent those suckers.

Oh, crap, I forgot the worst endings! Fable2 for reasons mentioned. FF8 mainly because of the stupid twist. ZoE1, Basically the end is you getting your butt kicked and then having to leave your adventure undone. Of course, the half life episodes are a bit of a blocker. And honestly? Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising. Basically in the best ending you've got a huge task ahead of you and they set it up to continue, but currently it doesn't continue. Now this is changed given that there is another expansion (retribution) coming out, but still...

Ace Combat 5 gets props from me. It's not the end of the game but just before the end there's a massive scene where you see two massive air forces combining and literally singing together. FFX does get a small prop from me simply for the whole sacrifice schtick. I'm gonna add PoP (the cell shaded one) with the ending being you basically undoing everything to save the girl. Of course, that would have been MUCH better if their relationship was better. Seconding MGS3.

Probably none, as there is no clear path from "we just created a black hole in our particle accelerator" to "OMG, it's going to devour our planet!". Miniature black holes don't exist long enough to contemplate growing bigger. Exactly. They appear and evaporate so fast that they are overall impotent even. It's just that pop culture has turned "black hole" to mean "supermassive black hole that tunnels through time and space and may or may not be a way to get to another universe" The only way that a civilization killed itself this way would be if some idiot decided to try to weaponize black holes and forgot that they're indiscriminate. -

Eh, if anything happens, the Freeman is there to ensure all the nasties go back in their holes. -

Well, we all know it's me and my zerg overseers. That said, there's dumbing down and simplifying (at least IMO) Dumbing down is taking something and making it so that all you need to do is whack your face on a keyboard and you're winning (we'll call this holy paladins) Simplification is taking an extremely complex mechanic with hidden triggers and randomness up the yin yang that's a core part of the gameplay experiance, and making it visible, and more predictable so you don't have to to six hand stands and then wiggle yourself in a certain way to maximize your potential (lets call this boomkins) Holy paladins was a stupid thing to do because it removed the difference between players skill levels. If you set two different people up with the same game situation and said "go" they'd be very very very very close in terms of performance simply because they only really need to press one button. Boomkins were in the same boat but for the opposite reasons. You could set two people down at vastly different skill levels and they'd have very different numbers almost by chance. Now, you're all wondering why I'm using these names, and probably a good portion of you have guessed, but these are world of warcraft specs/classes. Holy paladins up until very recently healed simply by laying down a few spells to spread the love, and then mashing the "flash of light" spell. So basically I could have taught a 6 year old how to play as good as somebody who knew wtf they were doing (but not necessairly those who lived in the math books for this game). Boomkins are a spec for druids that relates to magical casting, and had a really arcane "eclipse" mechanic that wasn't totally random, but pretty close (there were things like internal cooldowns and such going on... I didn't actually play the class). This was to the point where there could be serious variation from fight to fight for these guys simply because of the procs not working for them. However, with the most recent patch (the Cataclysm pre-patch that gave us the Cataclysm mechanics to toy with) both of these issues were fixed. Holy paladins got 4 more buttons to press to heal that were actually worth hitting, and boomkins had their mechanic actually become something controllable. So the dumbing down was undone, and the boomkins were simplified to be more representative of the player. Tl;dr version: Dumbing down=facerolling Simplifying=easy to pick up, hard to master. We always want the latter.

See, the gold will be devalued and we'll have to buy and sell goods on the economy of Glenn Becks tears. 1 tear=a house. -
Been raining today as I try to get over a cold (I've had for a week). It might actually start snowing if the temp drops much more. Anyway, today I got this in one of my email accounts and it ticked me off a tiny bit

Just keep a crowbar around, you'll never have to worry. And WoD I highly doubt anything will happen from the LHC given that there is nothing with enough mass to go boom in any way shape or form that would threaten people -
Holy -bleep- on a -bleep- sandwich with a side order of -bleep- Batman! Yhatzee sucks for panning this game, he no longer has any Journalistic integrity! ... -bleep- How was that pur?
