the most disliked thing in kotor

Agreed. KotOR2 kind of... belittled and rewrote KotOR1 in a way it didn't have a right to do. -
I know for a fact that Vrook is a level 56 Jedi A$$hole, but the others I can't help you with.

Why is the ending disliked???
Darth_Schmarth replied to Weaponmaster303's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Being warned always eases the fall. The third time I played the game the ending was ok, since I knew exactly what to expect and had more time both in-game and here to work out all the loose ends. That is, however, no excuse for the end to look the way it does. First time around it was just plain bad. -
Should Tatooine and/or Kashyyk be in KotOR 3

You forgot about Force Accidentally-Attach-Gun-To-Feet-Killing-Droids-And-Nobody-Laughs-Except-Children-Under-Five, and then the ever persistent Force Bad Grammar which essentially is a more powerful variant of Force Insanity. -

Now there's a sure-fire way to kill a game if I ever saw one... :D -

Start as LS and fall to the DS
Darth_Schmarth replied to Cassidy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That's a good point. I wish they'd gone to even greater lengths with this (though I realise it'd been even more of a behemoth to master). I would have hoped for a game where it was actually difficult to stay LS. Where certain actions or dialogue options would be subtle and some would lead you towards the dark side without being as obvious as "I'll kill you for asking for directions". Then the more dark side points you get, your LS conversation options will exponentially start to dwindle. This way you'll end up beyond redemption unless you're careful, and that would make the fall to the dark side feel much more real. Sadly it would take quite the effort to make it work and not to feel too forced or unrealistic. But of course there are always the wimps out there who "can't go DS because I'm a nice guy", and end up darker than Sidious without ever wanting to, and finally quit the game because they're only able to be evil, and... -
Start as LS and fall to the DS
Darth_Schmarth replied to Cassidy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Cant see any reason why you would. It's the heart of the Sith code to grow stronger than and ultimately destroy your master. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes. I always felt it was a shame you never got to choose your own Sith name. Just for good feeling. That and a dark, hooded robe would've improved the atmosphere greatly. Sadly this is one of those aspects developers (it's not just Obsidian, it's freakin' everyone) just don't seem to care about. The little details that really aren't that hard or time-consuming to create, but still make a huge difference in the overall experience. -
Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
Darth_Schmarth replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That concept has been around since Kyle Kattarn maybe even before that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kyle Katarn severed his connection to the Force out of fear of falling to the dark side. Besides, I think Kyle Katarn is a pretty unappealing character too. Having him as your cameo Master in Jedi Academy was partially responsible for a boring story. I can come up with many reasons why JA was dodgy, but that is one of the better examples. -

But the power and lure of the dark side is strong in the cave. I actually felt the cave generated too few dark side points. When I played LS I thought to myself that this was an excellent place for my character to start getting corrupted. When I got out I was still very much a shiny LS Goody Two-Shoes Jedi, so I reloaded and played Nice Guy instead... -

Most of these are assumptions. While I find some of them very plausible, I still feel that the player shouldn't be forced to fill that many gaps using his or her own imagination. -

I don't care much for mini-games. I practically never do swoop-racing and I just might stretch myself to the odd pazaak game. The part about Metadigi's post I personally liked was the possibility to explore larger areas of a world through the use of a vehicle, and I was particularly excited about the idea of sometimes being limited by the number of vehicles available at a certain place. -

See, I think this whole grey Jedi idea is pretty alien to the setting. That's the only point I'm really trying to make here. It's one thing to have Jolee Bindo in K1 living like a hermit in the forest and feeling alienated from the Jedi, but something completely different to have Kreia's absolute immunity to the lure of the Force, the Death-of-the-Force-because-of-one-guy stuff and Darth "I-destroy-entire-planets-because-I'm-so-bitchin'" Nihilus. -

LA were very impressed by it. While you could scratch the surface in a 3 hour movie a game without depth isnt particularly interesting. KOTOR II is much more interesting than KOTOR simply because it's not so black and white. KOTORs "ace" was the whole Revan thing, although if you saw through it , well it backfired and became the game railroading you. Totally different thing introducing deeper concepts is nothing like having lasers or other physical items. Since your doing a WWII comparison. Well KOTOR is the old John Wayne movies and KOTOR II is Saving Private Ryan and Shindlers List. The former present very black and white scenerios and the latter add depth and shades of grey. But all are WWII movies and nothing contradicts the setting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I'm not saying KotOR2 isn't interesting, it's just that if they were gonna make something as far out as this (from a certain Star Wars point of view), they'd have needed to develop it much further (the game being rushed obviously doesn't help here). Concerning my WW2 comparison, my point seems to have been misunderstood. The WW2 movies you refer too (that aren't any good in the first place, but that's another story) are different in their own right, regardless of what they are about or which setting they use. They are, after all, about a real life event. I was just trying to present an analogy as comprehendable as possible, since everybody knows there weren't spaceships in WW2. If you were to introduce spaceships into WW2, everybody would instantly know that "this is the writer's own input, it's not WW2 and I'm not sure I like it". Sure, some people out there would go "wow, how about that King Tiger with a heavy plasma gun that disintegrates the beaming Red Army soldiers from a distance of 300 kilometers!", but rest assured that I wouldn't. -

I agree with what you people are saying regarding Immediate Good vs. Greater Good. I personally find this LS/DS flip-flopping business that they have going on in K2 very annoying. Kreia is essentially something you're not supposed to be able to be in Star Wars (not only does she seem able to choose her alignment, she's also waaay to powerful; her killing the Jedi Masters that easily was just plain bad writing). What Obsidian did with K2 was create a Star Wars game that to a large extent contradicts Star Wars "logic" and canon. While their ideas aren't bad at all, they just don't really fit with Star Wars, and what's even worse is that K2 was the sequel of a very Star Warsy game, which it proceeded to light from a completely different angle (i.e. more or less change it, I'm surprised LA actually let all this slide). Star Wars and its romantic idea of good and evil is so established that you can't mess around with it however you see fit. If someone were to make a WW2 game with laser cannons and spaceships, people would immediately say that "while the lasers are really cool they aren't exactly WW2, now are they?". See my point? -
T3: Beep-bee-beep-beep-blip! Exile: You found him in the old spice-storage compartment?! How did you get him out of there? T3: Blip-beep-blap-dwoooo. Exile: I see. Wouldn't it have been easier just to wake him up? T3: Beep-beep-blip-zip! Exile: So where did he go, then? T3: Blip-beep-beep! Exile: No, I mean after lunch. I'm looking for a more permanent occupation. T3: Dwoooo... Exile: JUST TELL ME ALREADY!!! T3: Blip... Zip-zap-beep-blip! Exile: Yes, now that you mention it the loo has been busy for quite some time... [flushing noise from the loo, enter Revan] Revan: Hey, Exile... You might wanna stay out of there for an hour or so. Errr.... I'll just resign and go to bed.

Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
Darth_Schmarth replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You will generally need to feel like a small guy in a big world from the start. I just loved the feeling in the first Carth chat in the abandoned apartment in the beginning of K1 (lotsa' prepositional phrases for ya there ). It really gave you the feeling of being a small and undetected piece trying to make a difference in something immensely larger. I also wish the game would have several "check-points" where you could fall to the dark side (as in The Big Choice on top of the Rakatan Temple in K1), and it'd be really great if your Master fell to the dark side and you could decide to become his Sith apprentice or flee back to the Order. I want the Sith to try and recruit me! I hate how you always end up mopping Dark Jedi up regardless of if you're LS or DS. When my saber's red I want my enemies to have blue and green sabers; it is really very simple. I remember how much I wished that Darth Nihilus (not that I ever knew his name until suddenly I found myself on the Ravager and had a journal entry to kill him, whereupon I had to add two and two) would capture me on a mission with Atris and make me his apprentice so that I could go kill Atris with my Crimson Blade! As it ended up, she was the one with a Chili Havocbringer... <_< -
I agree. The Kreia-missing-her-hand-prematurely oversight aside, that cutscene was one of the best in the game and left the player wanting more. Sadly enough, there wasn't much more to be found.

I wouldn't recommend buying it. I've had game-stopping bugs, in the same place, both pre and post-patch. And this script error was reported very early on, just not ever fixed. Basically I had to redo Telos to avoid it the 2nd time it occurred (the first time, on my first play through, I just stopped playing the game for a few weeks, didn't happen on my 2nd playthrough, but happened again, post-patch, on my 3rd, causing me to go back to a save on Peragus to avoid it - it's a scripting problem in the fight with the Exchange boss). The movie/music patch won't really improve gameplay at all, but it's delay (a few days becoming a few months, without word) definitely shows there's little to no support for this game at either Lucas or Obsidian, so the bugs that still exist will either never get fixed, or will be fixed by the gamers themselves. As for the story, it's ok as light side, until the end, then it falls to pieces. As darkside, it's completely childish, IMO. The influence system has a lot to do with this (do NICE things when certain people are around to make them more EVIL). The main story, IMO, isn't very Star Wars-esque (but some people love it), and the main NPC is perhaps my least favorite of all time (Kreia). I'd say if you loved KOTOR 1, you'll most likely like KOTOR 2, but be disappointed at more than a couple things (mostly near the end). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't agree more with this "review". The game has its moments, but overall, it is an amateur attempt at a SW game... Mostly because it appears Obsidian doesn't really understand SW -- At least, the classic version of it and is trying to go in a much too radical direction with it in this game that is only hampered by technical bugs that completely destroy the gameplay and any immersion they were going for in the first place. I mentioned some of these failings/constructive critisicms early on on the other forums, but got blasted by fanboys and fangirls of OE or SW itself, but the truth is this game will please those who really don't want substance in their gaming experience and will settle for "filler" that amounts to psuedo-intellectualism and "lite" philosophical analyzation (and I mean at the very base level). I know people are going to take this as an insult to their egos, but the game is trying so hard to be "deep" that it just comes off as pretenious in a lot of instances... Let alone makes no real sense given the context of the SW universe. I'd wait until it hits the bargain bin because with the Restoration Team's efforts officially on hold (probably indefinitely given the scope of the project) this game is not finished in every sense of the word (gameplay bugs aside) and unless you like paying full price for incomplete products, I suggest you wait. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll let the two of you speak for me on this matter. The only detail I wish to add is something that I've already mentioned a couple of times: What's the hell is Freedon Nadd's tomb all about? I'm not talking plot here (even if that was a bit vague too), but the reason for sending a different team down there and have the chance to "succumb" to the dark side with the leading character, with no apparent effect whatsoever on said character afterwards. Why? What impact does it have? What was the whole purpose behind that whole part of the game?

The color of your lightsaber?
Darth_Schmarth replied to WOW's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
All these non-movie colours are sooo fanboi that it makes me wanna puke. I remember I wanted a yellow or purple saber when I first played Jedi Outcast, but these days I only use green or blue, and I just might stretch to yellow if I play Sentinel. I do, however, fail to see why BioWare came up with this crystal colour=type of Jedi idea, since it causes a bit of a conituity problem with the movies. In the movies the Jedi have blue or green sabers (except for you-know-who, and we all-know-why), and the Sith have red. Where did all the Sentinels go 4000 years after KotOR? Sith? So for the best possbile RP feel I use blue/green/red single saber and that's it.
