  1. Here we go... The act of murder is defined as... or Since there is no "law of war" except to win, you can rule out the first definition. So "to kill brutally or inhumanly" would be the fall back, or "to slaughter wantonly." I'd say dropping a bomb which is very, very capable of leveling an entire city is pretty wanton (merciless), brutal and possible inhuman, not having suffered through a nuclear blast I wouldn't know and don't care to speculate.
  2. Gambit 4 teh winz. Over: The LotR books. Under: Aqua Teen Hunger Force. (Absurdity 4 teh winz, as well)
  3. No. In war, the rules are different. And again, it was a war they started. If the US hadn't demolished Japan, they would just have rearmed, and charged forward again. Stop trying to milk your Hiroshima example, it's getting old already, and it should be obvious by now that you aren't going to accomplish anything. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I feel the need to point out that this contradicts this, which was your original position. War is a circumstance. Who started the war is a circumstance. The nuke killed civilians, but it is okay because it prevented a possible larger loss of life. It is okay, you contradicted yourself. Not a big deal, but don't pretend you didn't. Stop deflecting the issue, both of ya
  4. So, basically, you get 24 skills total, but you're stuck with them unless you make a new character? With the way GW works, I'll take 8 skills that can be switched on the fly before a battle over that setup any day. Give me access to all skills in the game, then allow me a limited number to bring into a single battle. This allows me to make a specific character designed to complement the skills of everyone else in the team, and allows for experimenting, trying out new tactics, etc, instead of being stuck with the same skills (even if 24 of them) no matter which battle I'm in. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. You can "respec" your hero 3 times by doing a trial. Also, if they release any patches that signifigantly modify powers they give out free respecs (or freespecs, as I call them). Since you've clearly never played you should withold judgement. Try out the 14-day trial and you'd understand.
  5. If you like fighting games you will like Soul Calibur. It has a simple and easy to understand control system, Two buttons for weapon based attacks; one for vertical, one for horizontal. One button controls non-weapon attacks, such as punches or kicks. A fourth button handles guard/blocking. By combining either vertical or horizontal with the non-weapon attack you produce grapples. Of course there is the detailed combo system, but most characters have combos that are simple enough for you to learn in a few minutes with more complex ones waiting in the trees. The "eight-way-run" system is very responsive to the controls, the only problem I have is when trying to jump to perform combos that require it (thankfully few). I, personally, think it is the best fighting franchise out there, followed very closely by Tekken. I must admit though that I am a pretty big fighting game fan/elitist. When there were arcades here I used to tell my girlfriend to leave me alone on friday nights to go play Tekken Tag and Marvel vs. Capcom, for example. I also must admit the only fighting game series I buy are Tekken and the Soul games.
  6. Your stance is we should police the world. Hades' is that we shouldn't. Neither is faulty or wrong, necessarily, just conflicting. I didn't say your logic was wrong, I said "You can't argue with his logic" as it is sound. His is that militaries should be used in defense, or for counter strikes, yours is proactive approach. There is no problem with his stance, it is simply that because someone wants power doesn't mean that we should go on a crusade against them, unless they make a move against you. It'd be akin to your neighbor wanting to park in your space. You can either wait for him to park there, and then act, or you could act before he does. Neither is less valid than the other. I'm not going to repeat that again, no matter how many times you rephrase your complaints.
  7. Actually you can't. It is a very valid stance, not one that I agree with, but it is just as valid as "we should've attacked them sooner because of genocide." On one hand you have "it is our responsibility to police the world" (your stance, apparently) on the other you have "It isn't our responsibility to police the world." Neither is less valid than the other. Your own bias is blinding your sense of logic, and I should point out it isn't the only time in this thread. I've been watching silently, as you clearly have your opinion and you're not being really reasonable, but now you're just plain wrong, so I figured I'd post.
  8. Deadwood annoys me with their sudden switch from overly formal and verbose dialogue to obscene and/or profane rants. I watched a few episodes and found myself just laughing at the dialogue, rather than engaged by TEH DRAMAS! Over: Turn based combat. Under: The Goober PB&J. (The one with the peanut butter and jelly in one package.
  9. I think Voldo uses a pair of punching daggers. I've always liked Mitsurugi, Cervantes, and Taki. I do like Raphael and Nightmare to a much lesser extent. The girl in the end of the video (with the massive chakram looking thing) looks like she could be fun to use too. Time will tell.
  10. Over: Pop, in general. Under: Coldstone's Ice Cream (whether you hate ot or love it, you cannot love this ice cream enough).
  11. I'd recommend you play City of Heroes, if only to see how they handle the game play, skill tray loadout, and such. First you pick your Archtype (read class), then you pick your primary power set within the Archtype. Once you have your primary pool picked you pick up the secondary, unfortunately your forced to pick the first power in the secondary but it is always a useful power, so not all bad. The difference between the primary and secondary is that you can pick primaries earlier, and they are inherently more powerful than a secondary. Once you reach level 6 you can begin picking generic power pools, only 4 of these power character. These are inferior to either primary or secondary; if you havea heal primary and a heal generic, a heal primary will always be better, unless you spend your enhancement slots in the generic and not the primary (which is usually silly). Each of these generic power pools have 4 powers in them. The final power pool you pick up is the ancillary power pool (only available to the basic ATs). These give your Arch-type something that it wouldn't normally have, like giving a tanker some control options or a controller some damage or defense options. In the end you end up with 24 chosen powers, and a few minor (mostly unimportant) inherent powers. All of these (unless they're always on) can be turned on/used in battle. The power tray layout is fairly simple, you can have upto 3 trays of powers on screen at any one time, each tray has 10 slots. The interesting thing about the system is that even though you could have a cookie cutter build, based on how you "slot" your powers, you could be very different from another build. I like the system, I just wish the Devs would stop changing the powers every issue (update), gets very annoying to have to reslot my powers.
  12. I hate the limitation and that it breeds carbon copies. 8 is too few. If it were 8 from each class I'd be fine with it. Or even 6 from each class... Actually, I pretty much dislike the system entirely, and the limitation there is just the pinnacle of its lameness.
  13. No accounting for taste. I will never agree that "in addition to limiting the player to 2 classes, they can also only have 8 skills at any one time" is good design. I disagree with it fundamentally.
  14. Double you. Tee. Eff. (Is that my three sentence rebuttal?) Over: Reality T.V. Under: Writing with pen and paper instead of typing.
  15. I bet they don't allow development to that extent, they probably let you choose the attack style (i.e. Raphael's rapier, Cervantes dual-wield, Nightmare's massive blade, Voldo's whatever the hell) then design the look of the character and weapons. Of course I could be wrong, and maybe they'll add something like combo assigning (with some key stroke requirement or something).
  16. Actually you can prevent people from crashing your session, a few ways, in different games. Most MMO games have"instanced" missions or zones. Guild Wars, for example, only has towns as truely "massively multiplayer" once you leave the town in GW, it is just you and your team. In City of Heroes your missions are instanced, once you enter the mission it is just you and your team. Another alternative is to go to a place where only you can access, like a Guildhall in GW, or your Supergroup's headquarters in CoH (once City of Villains is released, anyway). Another alternative is to simply ignore all channels but the team/supergroup/Global channels you want. *shrugs* I'm sure it is feasible for some people to roleplay, and only roleplay in MMO games. For example in WoW if someone isn't roleplaying on a roleplaying server you can petition and if you have enough evidence the non-roleplayer is moved off the server. In CoH the Virtue server has a very large roleplaying population; though you run into god moders with backstories like "I'm the son of Thor" - Ofcourse the head dev of the game has the "incarnate of Zeus" story for his character, so what do you expect? I have had good luck finding roleplayers in Guild Wars, but the game is boring.
  17. Fix'd. Not really. I've often found most those who play table top RPGs don't roleplay much either, they just play themselves, with their idealized stats for the chosen class. The personality is exactly the same as themselves in reality. CRPG, RPG, MMORPG, this carries throughout. Ah, yes. Another good idea in theory. " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, it can be done in practice, as well. Unfortunately you cannot do so consistantly. If you try to, you will spend about half, if not more, of your mmo gaming just standing around looking silly trying to get a real roleplay group together. Even in the "good" roleplaying communities there are bad apples, who suffer from the same problem I mentioned above, they don't actually roleplay, they just play themselves in a fantasy avatar - complete with melodramatic back story. Again, not impossible to find good roleplaying in MMOs, just difficult, as with PnP or anything else.
  18. Yes indeed, and Damien "Puuk" Foletto is a designer on the project, last I heard.
  19. EVE Online isn't a bad space-sim MMO game, can be a lot of fun. If you get involved in the right communities MMORPGs are much more RPG than any RPG you can play. Period. When you roleplay with other players its dynamic and actually responds to what you're saying, rather than which text option you click. Unfortunately I've never found a good roleplaying community, most are full of god-moders or people who want to have teh saibar secks.
  20. Guild Wars really loses its novelty after a month or so. You can play through the main "story" in about 2 weeks, from then on its grinding for the p|-|47 l3\/\/7, or PvP. Although the game has bountiful skill set for each of the 5 classes, you can only use 8 at any one time, which is a huge detriment to the game's longevity. Additionally, after awhileall the characters begin to look the same, and you see duplicate character builds all over the place. Thankfully there is no monthly fee for Guild Wars, so if you enjoy MMO games this could be a winner for you.
  21. This could very well have been posted before, if it has been forgive me. This just really entices me, because I am a huge advocate of creative control in any sort of video game. Without further jibber jabber... Soul Calibur III Trailer Thoughts?
  22. Over: Jade Empire. Under: Arrested Development.
  23. That is an excellent picture, the depth and detail in things like the lips and robes are very good. For some reason, though, the nose just doesn't sit with me. Can't explain it.
  24. Actually, I don't ever really notice a bias on MSNBC one way or the other. They have a pretty good balance of right and left wingers. For every Joe Scarborough (who I think is a joke, personally), there is a Ron Reagan. Anyway, back on topic; I'm ashamed to say I expect this sort of behaviour. If you offer something cheap/free the scavengers come out of the wilds to exploit. That isn't to say all who tried to take the deal are scavengers, but rather that those who hit people with chairs are.
  25. A bit bored, thought it'd be cool to start a thread where you post stupid factoids that you find interesting. For example... Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pcleas. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by ilstef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
