On Saturday I served a four course banquet (cooked on Friday) consisting of:
1. Frumenty (a fabulously expensive dish containing saffron and bulgur wheat that tastes eventually exactly like instant couscous)
2. stewed cabbage with vinegar
3. gammon boiled in fruit
4. carrot and parsnip soup
5. mushroom onion and ginger soup
6. baked onions stuffed with sausage meat and dried fruit
7. baked aubergines stufed with onion and mushroom
8. lamb's hearts rubbed with pepper and stuffed with mince
9. vegetables roasted and glazed with butter and honey
10. lamb's leg roasted with garlic and rosemary
11. a large marrow carved to appear like a pig, and stuffed with cheddar cheese, grated carrot, onion, and mushroom.
12. Sweet spinach and cream pie.
13. Apples baked with wensleydale and lancashire cheese
14. Cherry pottage served with cream.
It took 20 hours to cook.
