What you did today
You're probably right. Mine will likely be the same. It's "gold standard" but I doubt it will cover elective surgery to my teeth. *thinks* maybe I could get someone to punch the tooth out? Would have to be very very accurate. I got sunscreen in my eyes earlier and now I can't see properly. It's like I'm in a love scene of an old movie.

Warhammer 40k RP: Dark Heresy
Interesting to hear the storyline. What are your inspirations for the story?

You say Myanmar, I say Burma
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...s-22%2C000.html The news over here is full of the Burmese cyclone devastation. It seems to me that this was a natural incident, but a man-made disaster. 1. Forest, and particularly mangroves have been strip-mined <sic> by the regime's Chuchao/Triad cronies. 2. Infrastructure and suport services are focussed entiurely on the regime and not on teh people. Thus few hospitals, poor roads, and no organisational culture of care. 3. In any highly politicised system, such as a junta, you get inefficiency and incompetence.

What you did today
I hate the idea of worrying about what my insurance will spring for. Although you just made me realise that one of my current clients has comped me onto their health insurance, and I can try to get my teeth done! Awesome if it works out....

So... yeah... I joined the navy.
I don't know what the phys is like for the USN, but make sure you do a little every day. Don't go nuts, just get your body used to it. And two more things: 1. Good luck 2. Well done for volunteering. As our training sergeant says, it's half the job and half the respect*. * I considered asking if I could quit while I was ahead, but thought better of it.

Exercise
Neat story. I remember one occasion in the Drakensberg mountains with a friend. We were just coming off the berg (high iron content rocks, no cover) into the foothills (less iron, still no cover) when a thunder storm blew up. I love lightning, and we were both admiring it when we realised we were standing on an open hill wearing metal frame rucksacks. We ran a mile bloody fast off those hills with full packs!

Officials: 31 of 53 girls from sect ranch have been pregnant
It could also be that there's apt to be plenty of room in Texas.

Exercise
Recumbent bikes are good for two reasons (I've used one extensively, but not any more): 1. They are easy on your spine. 2. They let you watch TV without joggling around.

Working outdoors
Interesting. You mean these Asus PCs? Anyone have any comments one me getting one? Could be pretty tasty, and would suit my long commutes very well.

Exercise
Sorry to hear about your shin splints. Nasty stuff. Not sure why it's called splints, tho. Something I'm told I can look forward to. It's apparently a real issue when you are drilling. Stamping up and down hurts your shins.

I'll get back to you once I've worked out what this dark thing is that's following me around. My parents (who died of old age at 25) told me it was a 'siadoooo'. I can't work it out, but it clearly needs to go on a diet.

I think a submarine is more worrisome. Never go on a boat that sinks on purpose. an acquaintance o' ours, an ex-navy guy, brings his wife over to Gromnir's house for a barbecue. he spent some number o' years on boomers but we ain't talking 'bout navy stuff at all. instead we talks 'bout one of Gromnir's favorite subjects: food. so we is talking 'bout diverse stuff like which cuts o' meat benefit most from braising and what is best brine technique for chicken, when all o' a sudden this guy gets kinda quiet and reflective. blurts out that he never ate any better than when he were at sea. sadly, his wife were in ear shot... is our understanding that the USN takes pretty good care of the silent service guys. HA! Good Fun! They really do try to give them a good tour. But ultimately there's no substitute for fresh air and sunshine. I just spent the day in teh garden working and I wouldn't trade that for a steak.

I need a free anti-spyware
What I was told was adaware and spybot S&D. I only use spybot S&D. However I also use two anti-virus programs with anti-spyware enabled as well. No need to give away what they are.

Thoughts on a new system?
No, I would say that was definitely not it. If the motherboard couldn't supply the GPU with what it needs, the computer would just crash and/or artefact your graphics. But I've read about certain Nvidia card manufacturers having heat problems because of using cheap memory modules. You don't happen to have an eVGA GPU by any chance..? I'm afraid I don't have the card with me any more. I gave it to a techie friend to play with after it broke, and he probably ate it.

Working outdoors
Any other ideas? I need to be able to install stuff like openofffice and analytical engines. EDIT@ apparently it uses LCOS which is liquid crystal on silicon. Which lets you work outdoors. Now we need to find an ordinary laptop which uses the same tech....

Food Thread!
On the barbecue front: I cooked the ribs, and they were fantastic. In the end I used commercial sauce to save time, but it still worked. Plumped it out with beer to make certain the ribs were covered in the slow cooker. Threw in an onion for fun. After the barbecue there was a lot of sauce and meat left over. I trimmed all the meat off stuff, and threw it into the cooker with some white beans, pepper, and potato. Left it on low overnight. The result was heaven in the morning.

Just a word on op sec: don't tell us where you DO get posted and when you sail etc. I know I sound like a throwback, but you really can endanger yourself and endanger all your mates.

Working outdoors
Gentlemen, ladies.... Summer is here, and I for one am sick of being tied to a desk by the PC. I want to work outdoors in the sunshine. The objective before us is a solution that will let us use laptops and phones out of doors. Let's make it happen and see how many of us can get our bosses to spring for the kit. Viva life!

Boo hiss! Can't you become a pole-dancer and earn thousands a night? Judging by the TV that's what most students do.

Well, we do moderate from a heavily armed compound, but there's no ATF hanging around outside, just a bunch of sweaty nerds.

Wong Kar Wai is the man! Fallen Angels is one of my favourite films, and In the Mood for Love is easily one of the smartest films ever.

For us Yanks..
I'm helping the British economy by buying from Amazon.co.uk! Their stuff cost like twice as much, but I got Season 3 Battlestar Galactica like 6 months earlier. Thanks Gordon Brown! That's interesting. If you're buying abroad what about South Africa? You buy in Rands it will be cheap, surely?

So... yeah... I joined the navy.
I think I started arguing for the sake of it there. It's still interesting though.

Food Thread!
I'm not saying I think eating dog is necessarily evil. But I'm certainly not going to do it if I've got alternatives. Which may be culture bias, but why not? I try to drink fresh ground coffee whenever possible. It is better for you in my imagination. Plus it makes the house smell great.

Exercise
Skipping rope is brilliant for getting your heart rate really high for intensive workouts. As are any kind of circuits. The important thing though in circuits is to work diffferent muscle groups. Don't back to back things like squat thrusts and situps or press-ups. Sling in some leg raises or skipping. I shoudl also own up to the fact that I have done no exercise at all for a week. I am feeling bloated but very relaxed.
