Correction. I'm going to cough myself inside out and change my mind.

How do I select Steam or GoG?
You do realise that whatever hosting platform they chose would be physically executed by a third party company, just like hosting with Steam or GoG? Except that unlike Steam or GoG it would cost a lot more to implement and would likely be less reliable in the long term? Just sayin'.

PM me. I'll drag my consumptive butt down the pub and ask the regulars. I can just imagine you asking a bunch of drunk strangers "which would you prefer intergalactic heroes to fight, an intelligent virus or robots?" They're not strangers. They're regulars. And I'll ask them now. I'm going stir crazy lying around anyway.

Music... must go on...
Remembered this track from Buffy. (sung at the Bronze) EDIT: It's a kind of slow smoky Portishead vibe. We get so many tracks posted it's probably worth giving some indicator.

Global Implications of the Ukraine Crisis
Hold hard there, buddy (Valsuelm). It's not 'Ze West' who have behaved in a polarised fashion. It's quite plain that 'Ze West' hadn't made any plans to act in teh event of a dramatic move West or East by the Ukraine. Conversely Putin has laid claim to 'his' ethnic Russians. Whatever the **** that actually means. It's Russian troops motoring around the Crimea right now, not NATO. You want 'not polarised' how about Ukrainians who - and I'm only guessing - don't want the future their country decided by a handful of armed yahoos?

"Maidan" in US
I want to agree with you. But it's kind of a two-way street, if you'll pardon the cliche. Yeah it is. But forgive me but GD seems pretty wedded to a notion that all government is bad m'kay? It's only crystallised in my head this last week, but I feel as if GD treats government employees like some colonial stereotype treats 'natives'. "They're savages who only understand the gun".

Watching Hemlock Grove. Famke Janssen's character actually scares me.

Movies you've seen recently
Watching Hyperdrive on Netflix. It starts incredibly weakly, being yet another spoof on a spcaeship. Even the stereotypes are generic. The good bits are all in the little details. Nick Frost is obviously great. The aliens are ideal.

Global Implications of the Ukraine Crisis
Well, the comparison is certainly warranted. But I'd argue that, much like suicide, it's not so much how things really are as how people perceive they are. Things here are pretty bad, and have been for a few years now (bad from our coddled, postmodern perspective—1929 Capitol Plaza squatters would surely laugh). Illegal immigrants are interned in overcrowded "immigrant housing centers" that are rather like prisons with poor conditions (there has been at least one case of inmates dying of disease and lack of proper medical care). That doesn't seem to stop African immigrants from trying to jump the border fence en masse every other weekend. Is that really a better prospect than what these people face in their countries, do they even have all the facts before they leave home? I think the idea that "everything is AWESOME in the west" and the fact that it is awesome indeed to go to sleep every night on a full stomach are both factors to be considered when analyzing immigration. But as you say, it's a complex phenomenon. No I doubt they do have access to all the facts. It's quite possibly one more reason why they fancy living somewhere they COULD. They won't of course. Because a fully naturalised westernoid won't pay the slightest bloody attention to facts.

"Maidan" in US
Mor's made my first point so I'll make my second. Again we come back to the idea that controlling your government using guns is the way to do it. I could control most things using guns. Using guns is not the best way to control things. It's the LAST way to control things. It's also far from reliable. It seems to me that a nation which relies on shooting its elected representatives will fail to engender the healthy relationship between individual and state on which nations depend for prosperity. I don't deny that this looks dodgy. But if it is provably dodgy then I'd turn to a court first. Not a colt.

What you having for dinner tonight?
I'm not eating it tonight in bulk, but I've made four jars of chilli jam. Equal parts fresh bird eye chillis, fresh carrot, and the zest of one orange and one grapefruit boiled up together till all soft, blendered, returned to the pan then equal quantity of jam sugar. Jam boiled until it began to caramelise then transferred still hot to jars. The stuff is pretty pokey.

By your own account it very nearly turned a legal conflict into one where people got shot. Cow grazing is not worth killing anybody over.

You and I obviously know very different... ah never mind. Go nuts. Like the most irreparable piece of your anatomy were a butter churn. To the sounds of the Bee Gees.

Dear Mr. Urquhart
Wise words. Although I'd take issue with the notion that they have to go text heavy. There are other ways of conveying meaning and artistic impact without writing it out on screen.
