[3.02] Crash Report
Gairnulf replied to Gairnulf's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
They most probably are, because my download was pretty fast. I'm in Bulgaria. -
IE Mod status
Gairnulf replied to GawainBS's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Modding (Spoiler Warning!)
I haven't had any bugs with it, but I'm always using it with the right version of the game. I don't see a release for 3.02 yet, so best not use the 3.01 version of the mod with 3.02 version of the game. -
[3.02] Crash Report
Gairnulf replied to Gairnulf's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
In your GOG library (if you are on Windows) the Pillars of Eternity (Original Game) download is divided into three files - the installer .exe and two .bin files. The bigger bin file is over 3GB, the smaller .bin file is 2.7GB. Those are the files I've downloaded three times and the installer tells me they are corrupted every time. -

That's unfortunate. -

So, you are saying you are able to download and install it? -
[3.02] Crash Report
Gairnulf replied to Gairnulf's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It was crashing on game load, so I couldn't do anything. I have other buggy saves - there is one that loads, but then I'm not allowed to speak to most (but not all) characters in TWM areas. I click on the character but conversation doesn't start. Conversations in base game areas work though. As for the installer bug - I downloaded the two bin files 3 times yesterday (one is 3-something, the other one 2.7GB) and every time I got the same error - that the files were corrupted. -
[3.02] Crash Report
Gairnulf replied to Gairnulf's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I uninstalled, and downloaded the installation files from their site. Now the installer is telling me my installation files are damaged. Started the installation as an admin - still the same error. I know this is a bug with their installer, not with the files. This is really frustrating. -
[3.02] Crash Report
Gairnulf replied to Gairnulf's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Sure, that will be about the 4th time I'm reinstalling since TWM2/3.0 What's strange is that the corruption is with only one character's savegames. The other character still works fine. But, if this makes any difference: the character that's doing well has gone through the white march and just entered Twin Elms, while the broken character has done the whole base game and is now into TWM2 areas. The last install I made was through GOG Galaxy, which is only able to preform uninstall/install. It breaks when trying to update, so nothing else is possible. This time I've uninstalled Galaxy and will be installing from GOG's installers. Do you think this may result in a better working game? -

[3.02] Crash Report

I have savegames that consistently crash the game. Here is a crash report from one such savegame. The savegame itself is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2n9OkZ4rwZMVnVVbk5ZRUpGekk/view?usp=sharing Please help. 2016-05-10_084824.zip -
Get out of here Infinitron, go back to the Codex to the other fanboys Also, "20% faster" can't ever be clear. "20%" of what?

30 minutes with the Backer Beta gave me the same opinion which I still hold now when I have over 160 hours with the full game. It's an interesting game largely in spite of its combat system.

All is great news, but this got me curious.I am betting that the Barbarian base Deflection is finally getting buffed, after I (and others) have pointed out several times that it's laughably low. The funny thing about barb is that even with this stupid defense... they just don't die. They are just meatbag, especially with a little Con, Draining weapon and Savage defense.I hope Rogue would get a x5 Health multiplier like other martials (even ranger). Resting because Melee Rogue is out of Health just happens too often ^^ In my experience, on PotD, the barbarian dies in every encounter unless I tak special care to keep him away from heat, which is hilarious because it defeats the purpose of having a barbarian. If they buff the rogue though, I'd be surprised. I've been able to make insanely powerful rogues, with high survivability, thanks to accessible abilities that help break engagement.

Can I just use the dll without the launcher? All this launcher stuff feels like it needlessly complicates things, in my opinion at least. -
Many thanks for digging through the source code and doing the experimentation. I'm too busy with work to do this stuff myself. I'll update the wiki with the information from here. Also, one of the things that really disappointed me in PoE was the fact that instead of adopting an equivalent of the personal initiative round system that the Infinity Engine games had, Obsidian designed a combat system around seconds and tenths of seconds, calculated in a nebulous manner so that not even the developers themselves can explain or document it. I really hope they change this for PoE2, or at least heavily tune it, so that combat is easier to read and information is communicated to the player in a clear way.

It can very easily be game-breaking depending on how many and what saves the player keeps. With the game slowing down significantly with a bigger number of savegames in the savegames directory, it could be game-breaking for many people. Looking for information on the devs' schedule for the next patch totally makes sense. I can understand they would avoid to make promises without being close to completely certain they can keep them, so the lack of answer must mean they can't yet estimate how long some issue/issues will take them to fix.

I'm not sure if this isn't related to going into/out of combat, but Concelhaut's skull (pet) sometimes seems to stop in place, instead of follow you. I have to reequip the pet item to reset the skull. I'm not sure how his special ability should be used either. I don't see it in my "quick items" list.

[3.02] Lavender Wreath bug
Gairnulf posted a question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
The Lavender Wreath's "Irritating" effect comes up in the console as "*Effect error*". Its duration is adjusted for the character's intellect bonus, but the adjusted value is not shown in the effect's description, only the base value is. Also, shouldn't it have an icon too? Screenshot: -
Suggestions for Obsidian going forth
Gairnulf replied to Mdalton31's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
This is one of the things I've requested in my PoE2 wishlist. It's currently impossible because they can't have more than one game area in computer memory at a given time. -
I see what you mean. For this to work, they have to be able to keep a few areas in memory at the same time. For example you enter Ondra's gift, and this automatically loads all the houses and inns into memory as well, so then you can enter them without a separate loading time for that. This would just make your initial loading time longer though, and you will end up loading stuff you won't actually need, because you won't visit every building. From what I've heard from interviews, they were unable to keep two areas in memory with that version of the Unity engine they were using in PoE at all. Maybe it will be possible by the time they start production of PoE2, but even then preloading lots of areas is expensive on your machine, especially if they are big areas. I think the way to go is rather to cut down loading times. I don't care if there is loading often as long as it happens quick.
