  1. As the game releases on the 20th, it will probably be rough for the next week.
  2. But is Skyrim better than Fallout 3? Speaking of Skyrim, I installed it on my new computer and tried to play but am getting an issue where the sound is all very, very low. I hope it's not an issue with the latest patch. Edit: Actually, I'm just going to install Civ 5 again.
  3. I'm not sure how it would be entrapment. If I wanted to pirate the Witcher 2, I'd have to go to a site like pirate bay and specifically search for the Witcher 2 or browse the PC games. I think that would show that I have the intent/desire to pirate the game prior to whatever agency they're using offering it to me.
  4. I often thought my light side Consular was a sociopath. Her willingness to take a wrecking ball to people's lives for some vague greater good combined with her complete emotional detachment made me think of her as an evil bastard. Of course, I don't think that was BioWare's intent.
  5. I don't believe any behavior or procedure can produce 100% accurate results. Moreover, whenever I hear someone claim 100% accuracy or rightness, I assume they're trying to bilk me out of my money. In other news: Obsidian Wants To Go All Digital
  6. They've talked previously about 'continuously improving and expanding the game' so I'm not surprised.
  7. I plan on starting a new game after I finish all the riddler riddles/challenges in Batman. For some reason, I want to play a sneaky Khijat thief.
  8. I think the story and the character's role in it should have more influence on whether side-quests are tied into the main plot. If, for example, you're Cmd. Shepard, who's been brought back from the dead specifically so you can fight an unimaginably powerful group of entities that are going to harvest all organic life in the universe, then the vast majority of side-quests should have something to do with the main plotline. You are the ONLY ONE who can save LIFE ITSELF. No dilly-dallying please. If you have something like Bloodlines where your character is a neonate who thinks he/she is just doing some odd jobs for the Prince, then it makes sense for the PC to do a lot of stuff not connected to the main quest. They don't know that there is a 'main quest.' I'm opposed to the idea that consistently doing good things would mean my PC ends up blind, maimed, penniless, and covered with open sores. It would make sense for a game where the thematic point was that selflessly doing good is stupid and we should all look out for number 1 - and I wouldn't object to playing that game - but I don't see that sort of thing as inherently more satisfying than getting rewarded whether you do 'bad' or 'good.'
  9. It might not a change to canon, but Kaas was far more visually interesting to me than Korriban, so I'm rather glad they moved the heart of the Sith Empire there.
  10. 1. I am a woman. 2. I like to read about women playing with lightsabers and guns that go pew pew. 3. It's a book in which only men get to do the cool stuff. Women get to have the hero's kid or die. That sucks.
  11. Yes, criticizing Dew Karpysan for his poor handling of his female characters, including the personality transplant on a pre-existing character, is the same as criticizing female characters in a short story by Hemmingway that has only one character. Says the dude. Someone who can expect a member of his gender to be the protagonist of almost every book, movie, and game out there. Next up, rich folks tell us how money doesn't matter.
  12. There's not a lot of discussion about the handling of female characters. The majority of the people reading this book seem to be men, so that's not surprising.
  13. Apparently, people found the portrayal of woman characters less than satisfactory.
  14. I thought all the stress test weekends went very well. The last time I played, I actually got less lag than normal and the longest queue I recall was 10 minutes.
  15. My experience with TOR customer service is that it's crap. Day 1: Send e-mail about issue with character. Day 2: Get ticket number Day 5: Post on customer service forum about issue. Ask what I should do. No response. Day 10: Get mass e-mail that customer service isn't processing issues at this time. Before anyone goes "It was beta," they told us that we were there to test customer service issues as well to make sure that GMs and such could help people when they had quest problems in game.
  16. Early Access starts tomorrow.
  17. Yesterday, I helped my mom take in the groceries. I was very disappointed when this didn't lead to a random orphan dying or someone swearing revenge against me.
  18. Finally got my new computer up and running. Went from a Radeon 5750 to a GTX 560 ti 2 GB. Installed Batman: AC on both just to benchmark. 5750 Min: 3 FPS, Avg: 12 FPS, Max: 57 FPS 560 Min: 58 FPS, Avg: 58 FPS, Max: 60 FPS Can't wait to play Skyrim on this. Anyways, started playing Batman: AC and it's as fun as the first game. Bizarre personal note: Catwoman's prisoner number is 4011. If you've ever worked in an American grocery store as a check-out clerk, you know there are some items that you scan in and others that you have to key in by hand - mostly produce. One of the first codes you'll memorize is 4011, the code for bananas as, by quantity, they're the most popular fruit in the USA.
  19. Notice that in 2009, e-books made up 1% of book sales. They now make up 40%. The interesting thing is that book *publishers* aren't in charge of modern e-book DRM, book *distributors* are, and publishers are oblivious to the problems this is creating and will create.
  20. Or they can remove the book from your reader at any time or lock you out of your account. It sucks to pay almost $1,000 for books you're not allowed access to. And, naturally, moving a book from one's Kindle to one's PC to convert it to a different format is against the EULA.
  21. It depends on the difficulty they finally went with and how they end up balancing the classes. The build before last, trying to solo post 30 content was overtuned and I know that as of the last build smugglers and jedi knights had story line bosses that they needed to group to beat. The intention is that anyone can solo from 1-59, however.
  22. I just followed the . Tip? Okay, I have one tip. When you install the CPU to the motherboard, you're going to get resistance. It takes far more pressure than RAM or a video card. If you're like me, you'll worry you didn't seat the chip properly and that you're going to break something.
  23. I decided to build my first PC and have been assembling it as the parts arrive from New Egg. The last part - RAM - arrived today and when I come home, I hope to start it up for the first time. If everything goes well, I'll start a new game of Skyrim tonight and be able to marvel at all the eye-candy I've been missing.
