Is it finally here? The death of the fantasy genre?
Volourn replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
"Fantasy is an inherently restrictive genre, whereas contemporary or sci-fi have a very broad range of possibilities in comparison." 100% not true. -
L0L The word 'spamming' is a nice touch to make the combat seem worst/more simplt than it is ala FO's combat is simply shots to the head until the enemey dies. L0L p.s. It may not have been your intent; but that's what I read when I see combat + spamming.

Gothic 3 was fun (until it became a chore of boredome). the first two ar ebig piles of overrated crap poo akin to ES (but a tad better)...
-
"unfinished, unbalanced and boring. I can't understand how people can rate this so highly." Unbalanced, i agree with, because of acouple of abilities make it a cakewalk. Boring, matter of opinion, but nah I disagree. Unfinished, i disagree. It is finished. You may not like it; but it's most certainly not unfinished. Why do people tend to claim things unfinioshed simply because they're dissapointed/dislike it? It's silly. It smells of a cop out. If you don't it; you don't like it. Nothing really wrong with that. "What is the gameplay of Jade Empire like? For some reason, I have always thought of it as very Diablo-esque and so never even considered playing it. I don't own a console, I never really paid much attention to it, other than make some odd association with Diablo/Dungeon Siege-style gameplay." Nothing like that, at all. It's real time and while character stats do matter; player skill is really important which is logical since it is an (Action) RPG. You most cetrainly cna't watch the combat ala DS or else you'd be killed. And, it share little in common with Diablo combat. One of the best aspects (outside of certain mini games) of JE's combat is it isn't as combat intensive as other BIO games like the BG series, NWN series, or ME. It rarely spams unneccesary combat to be sure. Combat is fun; but isn't super deep though you cna't just click, click, click the attack button and expect to win. That's for sure.

'Historical credibility'? Give me a break. It's a fantasy game dealing with demons, gods, and magic. L0L And, thankfully enough, too. I don't need a history lesson from a game. That's what books are for. JE was never meant to be historically accurate in terms of Ancient China just like the FR - contrary to popular belief - aren't meant to be a faithful creation of the real historical Dark Ages. If that's the experience you want, don't buy the game. Duh.
-
Nah. It didn't need to be different. It needed to be good. Which it was.
-
"I've seen more than one game shelved after years of development... and so have you." True; but BIO hasn't a company whp did this. I look at their past history. Can't paint BIO with the same brush of other failed companies. "I don't know squat about the accuracy of Chinese history as portreyed in the game, nor do I particularly care." 100% agreed. Espicially since JE was never gonna be a historical retelling of China. It *is* a fantasy game, afterall.
-
Not sure; but there are over 50 quests in the entire game.
-
"BioWare has been inching that way for years, and with Mass Effect has totally enscounced itself as a console developer with PC as a distant afterthought... if at all." Di, did Hades take your membership? You sound just like him. Anyways, BIO hasn't abandoned the PC. That's silly talk. If they had, JE would never had been ported, they wouldn't have spent years supporting NWN crap, and they wouldn't be working hard on DA. I doubt DA is vapourware unless you honestly believe BIO would pay someone like Gaider to play tiddlywinks. L0L On to JE2. JE was awesome. I'm sure JE2 will be. Can't be worse than the overrated KOTOR, anyways. HA! P.S. JE's morality Open Palm/Closed Fist system was not like KOTOR's Light/Dark system though they share similarities. JE's was way better, too.

Is it finally here? The death of the fantasy genre?
Volourn replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
The whole comparing 'only eating beans' to fantasy games being 'overdone' analogy is dumb simply ebcause there's tons of non fantasy games out there to play. Not a smuch as there are fantasy games MAYBE; but theya re out there so it's not like youa re forced to play *only* fantasy games. L0LLIGAGZ! -

There's science techno babble to explain it; but pretty much accomplishes the same goals. R00fles! -
Yeah, at end game, I was level 48, and di quite a bit of quests, and obviously took my time comapred to many as it wa sabout a 45 hour tri. And, there are some known popular quests I missed. ie. Space monkies, and Rachni rampagers are two noticeable ones plus I think I missed the planet where you used the Consort's disk (or just missed the place you use it, HA!). Ending music, I believe, is the only track that actually has lyrics in it.

"Man, you are slow. I did every single mission, except the Dr. Heart Mission, and beaten the game less than 27 hours with a 49th level character." L0L Aren't you the one who tookm 40 hours or so to beat JE? It only took me 27. All this proves is that people play games at their own pace, and avries for each game. For ME, I spent a lot of time on random planets riding in my MAKO looking at the sites, (re)reading the Codex, and organzing the crappy inventory, and going back and forth to the Citedal.

How the ehck do you finished it in 13 hours? I played for about 45 hours, and I still didn't do eveyrthing. WOWSERS!
-
"I agree that the NWN1 OC was unfinished" Huh? It is finished. Just because you dislike something doens't mean it isn't finished. It has a beginning, mjiddle, and end. It's finished. Quality (or perceived quality) is irrelevant to this discussion. I loathe MW; but it is finished. It just sucks. HA!

Fantasy games will never die. LONG LIVE FANTASY! Alos, newsflash: Science FICTION is fiction for a reason. P.S. People who think FR/D&D dwarves/elves are nothing but other versions of humans ar ejust plain dumb, and don't know as much about D&D as they think they do. Period. -
"They did it in Jade Empire, pretty decently actually, so why not here?" Accoridng to BIO, it didn't fit the story/setting. They got a flak by a bunch of whiny crybabies too over it. Calling them homophobic, and all sort sof nasty things. *shrug* Remember folks, it's all about 'tolerance'. R00fles!

L0L Well, I'll be. Okay then. Still, i doubt people were watching her. I, for one, didn't even know who she was at the time. HA!

"Scarlet Johansson?" I believe you got your movies mixed up. Scarlett wasn't in Eight Legged Freaks.
-
Roadracers. WOW! What a movie. It makes me appreciate David Arquette even more. The entire cast did a great job with their acting for the most part.
-
Best Batman movie is the first Tim Burton one. Hands down. BB was good; but vastly overrated espicially acting/story wise. Superman Retruns was okay. It would have been much better with a giant spider, though. Giant spiders are cool. Why do you think movies like Arachnophobia, and Eight Legged Freaks are so popular? Giant spiders. That's why!

I loved the entire Smith college interview this come sfrom. He's hilarious. I'm not the biggest fan of Smith's movies; but they have their charm.
