Wasn't Sonic RPG turn based?
-
"The Bioware fanbase are pretty humorless folk. " That's true. The major butthurt over everything BIO does shwos this. Just mention that DA is better than Bg and you'll see the BIO fanbase crying tears of murder.
-
"Noober in Baldurs Gate" This be funny but I did not exist on the internet when BG was released. In fact, you can blame BG for me posting on the internet. "The Witcher had a very good combat system," Kiddin' right? TW's combat system makes such horrible systems like BL and KOTOR look awesome. That's how crappy it is - along with the rest of the unoriginal piece of garbage TW is.
-
"And sorry Volourn but you cannot deny that Dragon Age seems inspired by The Witcher." Yes, i can. 1. Dragon Age started development at the same time or even before The Witcher. 2. BIO made it clear what previous works infleunced (aka what they ripped off) DA. None of which was TW. One example was Fire & Ice. 3. The Witcher is not original in any way. It is a rip off of other works so why bother ripping off the rip off. It's like the tools who claim that Elminster is a rip off of that Stupid LOTOR wizard when that stupid LOTOR wizard is a rip off of Merlin. "I don't know if that is intentional, but the resemblence beetween Witchers & Great Wardens is pretty big. Both are ancient Order that fights with monsters, and no one takes them seriously anymore, despite their past glory." This is common in many fantasy stories. D&D has tons of groups that resemble this. "Also ghettos for the elves and general intolerance toward the different races, grey moral decisions (The one with Dalish Elves and Werewolves felt almost exactly like it was taken from The Witcher, though in DA, you actually could make the good decision, unlike in The Witcher, where you are always choosing the lesser evil)." Again, this is done in D&D. This is not original to TW. "And now in the newest trailer the Hawke is doing almost exactly the same things that were in The Witcher's outro." *yawn* Many game shave intros like this. Heck, it's basically the NWN intro fight between a certain lord of Neverwinter and a minotaur except magic is thrown in. Not new. Bottom line is TW is an overrated piece of crap that is one of the most unoriginal, horribly written, horrioble developed, piece of crap. TW is a dumbed down rip off of multiple D&D products let alone general fantasy. Plain, and simple garbage that only trolls would bring up in a DA thread to besmirch actual good games. P.S. It should be pointed out that while people will shout to the high heavens that DA is a 'rip off' of TW, others will cry that it's a 'rip off' of LOTOR, and others will whine that it's a 'rip off' of BG. *shrug*

The list logic deosn't make sense. Most of what it 'rates' is just silly.
-
"The trailer suggests Hawke is some sort of Geralt ripoff (fencer + some magic)." LMAO You say that like Geralt is the original fighter/spellcaster type. Don't be silly. Geralt himself is one of the biggest ripoffs of fantasy. There's nothing original about that loser. Then aagin, TW is a crappy game, crappy book (though I didn't waste my time with the book thank god), crappy D&D rip off world, crappy rip off main character, crappy everything. As for the video, it's alright, nothing new. That said, the bashing of it is hialrious ebcause pretty much everyone bashing it in this thread is gonna buy the game anyways. *shrug* P.S. Nothing is funnier than claiming a game's marketing sucks then the claimant going out to buy/paly the game. LMAO

" No, not much at all, you're much better off looking at the BG2 scene for that." Kiddin' right? BG2 mods sucked horribly with terible writing, characters, and other crap. The ES series including its mods just plain sucks. NWN mods, by and large, are simply vastly sueprior in every way.
-
"False. Most of the mods that received good ratings in the early months are horrendously overrated and clearly results of people being impressed that campaigns can be created overall. Most of it is pure junk. I'd say the good mods didn't start coming until several years after its release and even so, the high quality mods are faaar from being as numerous as some people would claim." You are wrong. NWN was getting good mods within months. No doubt about it. If it hadn't, the toolset/modding community for it would have pitiful much like NWN2 and DA are.
-
"To be fair, it did it take a year+ for really good mods of NWN" Not true. NWN was gettinmg good mods even in the early months. DA, btw, has been out for nearly 10 months, and the modding scene is still crap. That ain't gonna change either. DA mods, and toolset suck the big one compared to NWN. You wanna know why? Because BIO doesn't care about the toolset so neither do the players. DA2 won't be any different.
-
"at least 1/3 of the game being unique for each "origin"." Silly expectations are silly. "He's just being Volourn. He's stated his opinion about Bio games over and over so I don't see why you act surprised Oro." Your point being what? Everybody else gives their opinion on BIO games repeatedly, too, so why should I be any different? BG1 was good in the 90s. This ain't the 90s anymore.
-
"DA: Origins was a bad name, at any rate, considering that the origins hardly affected anything save a few flavour dialogue options." False. BIO newer games are largely better than their older games. LMAO BG1 LMAO
-
"They are there to turn a profit. But wouldn't it be refreshing if they actually acknowledged that, even in veiled terms" Actually, they have. Point blank. Repeatedly. BIO has not pretended that they want their games to sell as much as possible. That, in fact, they *have* to sell as many copies as possible to justify spending so much money, time, and effort on their games. Games like DA and ME aren't cheap to make and publishe so they have to make money. Why cna't they strive for both financial and critical success? It's worked well for them sof ar. Let's not forget that people bashed BIO over DA, and we all know how that turned out. This board, as an exmaple, raked BIo over the coals for the DA hype and whined that BIO was turning their backs on 'BG lovers' yet those same punks went out and played DA, anyways., btw, BIO owes us nothing. Just because you bought DA1 does NOT mean BIO owes you DA1.5. BIO has the right to make any game they want any way they want just as we can choose to buy or not buy. But, one thing that I've elarned is that it's usually the loudest complainers who are first in line to buy the games from the companies they complain about it so why should BIO work to please an audience that is almost assuredly gonna buy their games anyways. Better to focus their efforts on getting new customers who don't give a crap about BIOand get some new converts - that's how you grow a business. It's called Management 101.1 Look it up.
-
"with an emphasis on "kewl combat"." Meh. BIO, heck everyd eveloper ever, has always emphasizedm 'kewl combat'. This isn't new at all.. unless youa re claiming BIO promised 'unkewl combat' in DA1. l0l
-
"Mass Effect: 2,26 million Mass Effect 2: 1,88 million Dragon Age: 2,57 million" ME2, and DA are both at 3mil+. And, i'm sure ME1 is nearing 3mil as well since all of BIO RPGs sans JE (1.5mil) are around 3mil mark and ME2 and DA are their most successful ones to date sales wise.
-
ME is irrelevant. It's an oldm game. ME2 has sold more than DA. Like i said ebfore, the real culprits for this change are the Codex. These guys claim to be harecore rpgs but they vastly prefered ME2 to DA so BIO is just doing what they promised - pleasing the old skool market with DA2 and since they prefer ME2, DA2 will be more like the game they want. R00fles!
-
"And they said DAO was received better than ME" ME not ME2.
-
"Given the current backlash to their plans for the camera," The 'backlash' is meaningless. People were bashing BIO before ME2, and DA and we know the result of all that.
-
So, in essence, people shouldn't take what they ehar as gospel until they hear from the horse's mouth first.
-
"No tool-set either? LAME" DA's toolset sucked anyways. No great loss. "What about their set goals and vision for DA being the successor of BG." That was DA1. Not DA2. PLus, ME2's greater success proves that BIO's fans don't want a successor to BG. I blame the Codex, btw, since they much prefer ME2 to DA anyways.
-
"But at least somone could finally expliain the appeal of Curling." The majority of Kanadians don't know what the appeal of curling is. I certainly don't.

Del Toro And Cameron to shoot 'Mountains Of Madness' movie
Volourn replied to Purkake's topic in Way Off-Topic
"the old timey Antarctic explorers angle does add quite a bit to it in terms of uniqueness." Nah. That's been done to death in movies. Anyways, looks like it could be a fun movie. -
* SHRUG* I AM REALLY UPSET ABOUT PICTURES OF BEAUTIFUL VIDEO GAME WOMEN *nerdrage*
-
JE sold over a mil copies. It may not be the success of other BIO games but it certainly isn't a failure. The so called report is false. Trust me on this.

"not sure why'd you want to neglect spells in BG2" I didn't;, and love the spells in BG2; but let's be honest that there were a lot of battles that you simply did not need them. Sure, the boss battles you certainly did, but not your typical encounter. In DA, your best bet to survive is to use your characters' talents or else you could very well die even aagainst 'easy' enemies. "Huh? Mages are even more overpowered in DA than BG" No. No, they aren't. "Only 'tactics' required in BG2 is using the occasional Breach/Warding Whip/Ruby Ray to take down enemy mage's spell defenses." Required? LOL I never needed to use that 'tatic' ever. I only used those spells once or twice to test them out. I just found it wasetful to memorize and/or use those spells in BG2. "only that's exactly what I did in DA, you know, there's a trait that makes knowlege count as strenght towards weapon and armor checks. well, I used it with both my mages and meleed all the way home." So, you purposefully trained/turned your mage into basically a fighter-mage and were SHOCKED SHOCKED SHOCKED that it could melee like a fighter? WOW Talk about the exception to prove the rule. I could take my BG2 mage and falt out melee an ogre without turning him into a fighter. Try doing that with a DA mage that isn't a fighter.
-
"everything else in DA looked like this: you spot an enemy, send your whole team over there, keep switching targets - all enemies dead. not exactly what I'd call strategic gaming." You just described BG's combat to a tee. Heck, I would clear entire BG maps by simply popint and click and meleeing with all my characters including mages. You certainly can't do that with DA mages who would be killed if they are targetd for more than 6 seconds. In DA, you actually have to use talenst and whatnot to give yourself a shot to win many fights. In BG, just click and watch. Sorry, DA has more depth, and tatics, and strategy in it spinkyn finger than BG or BG2) has in their entirety.
