  1. The correct answer is, of course, Bioware's latest game, because everyone knows it's THE BEST BABYSITTER EVAR!!1! Not enough typos, of course, but hopefully you can get the humor.
  2. Gamespot gives it an 8.0.
  3. Yeah, IGN gave it a 93%, and the video review only makes passing mention of the fact that the single-player portion is only 5 hours in length. Yeah, I bet if Hilary Goldstein had to, you know, actually pay for the copy that he's reviewed and is now on his third playthrough, he might rate it a little lower.
  4. WHAT WORKS in editing Coalesced.ini here! Edited Coalesced Thanks! That's just what I needed!
  5. I wrote that after doing the first quest, because I thought that was all there was. I now see in my journal that there are other hammerhead quests. Maybe I'll like them better. I don't much like the vehicle, though. It's very twitchy and hard to handle. I miss my mako. The lack of a save feature in these missions is really, really irritating. Do you like Mario? If not, you probably won't like the rest of the quests. I've done them twice, but only for the extra 10% biotic damage you can find in the last mission. Oh, if you do decide to do the missions, prepare for frustration on the one: There's no save, and it's easy to die on Hardcore and above, meaning you have to start the whole mission over again. New question: Does anyone know how to edit the loadout for characters? I have beaten the game with a Soldier and Vanguard, and want to do an Infiltrator, but I want an Assault Rifle from Freedom's Progress on. I know I can unlock it in the , but the Widow is just too, too sexy (I actually prefer it on my Soldier to the Revenant). I also know that SMGs fill a good portion of the role that ARs fill (though missing the further end of mid-range), but I like using ARs more, and that blank spot on the right side of my Infiltrator's back is driving me mad. Any tips on how to edit my save game to allow this would be greatly appreciated.
  6. My theory is this: Origins and Awakening are designed to show the (magical) evolution of, for lack of a better term, orcs on Thedas. As has been mentioned before, the darkspawn origin story is remarkably similar to how Tolkien's orcs were created. The Awakening dude is like the first truly sentient and in-control darkspawn, and one of the novels revealed that he wanted to create more like himself. The game ends Finally, it would make the "Origins" subtitle of the first game make more sense than simply referring to a design feature, as it would feature the moment when the darkspawn began to become more than a mindless horde and started to develop societies. "Awakening" would further that. Just an idea, thought that I'd throw it out there.
  7. Okay, I have to say, it's relevant to say that you got turned off a game by the first 5 minutes.. But if you didn't play more then that, you can't really make a sweeping statement that the whole game was bad if you didn't play that far beyond the opening sequence.... Actually, I can, because it's my opinion, relevant only to my experience. I'm not presenting it as undeniable fact. In fact, my exact words are, "For me, JE was worse than NWN1, which is saying a lot." (emphasis added). My words were not, "JE is objectively the worst game Bioware has ever produced because I saw the plot coming after the first real cutscene. The transparency of the plot turned me off to the entirety of the plot-heavy game, so I no longer had any desire to continue it. If I waste $7 renting a story-heavy game only to have said story telegraphed to me in the first half hour, then that game to me is bad, no matter what other redeeming features it may posses. Bioware focuses on story in their games, not gameplay, not action, and so having the primary component ruined is just like if God of War III features one-button combat for the whole game.
  8. I'm glad to know that I was not the only person who saw that telegraphed at that moment. It was right after that scene that I quit the game and took it back to Blockbuster. For me, JE was worse than NWN1, which is saying a lot.
  9. Speaking for myself, I have read Inferno, but not Purgatorio or Paradiso. Read it in college, thought it was hilarious how the rest of the class thought it was about Christianity when the majority of the named damned were Dante's political enemies or allies of the French pope. Inferno, at least, is a political assassination piece, not a religious piece.
  10. This is one I've been following for, oh, a year or so. I definitely want. The GTA series did not interest me because you're always a criminal, but I dig on the Western them of a badguy trying to do what's right, and possibly failing. Choice of being an outlaw or a hero is a major selling point to me. Plus, I have had a soft spot for Westerns since a co-worker got me to watch A Fistful of Dollars several years ago. Can't get enough of them now.
  11. I don't. I started gaming with consoles, and you always had to have a cartridge/disk in the machine to play the game. So, for me, disk-checks are par for the course.
  12. How is pirating a game because you want to play it without having to pay for it any different to pirating a game because you want to spite the publisher? In both cases you've now got a game you didn't pay for and the publisher doesn't know your reasons. Does the spiteful downloader then delete the game even after they've just spent the bandwidth on it (and if using torrents, helped distribute it to others) and give themselves a pat on the back knowing they've "stuck it to the man? Don't ask me. I was just commenting on the argument that all downloading seems to be based on entitlement, while I'm seeing a lot of people who normally wouldn't touch pirated games start to talk about pirating games because they're ticked off. Whether or not they do so is between them and God.
  13. I'm not sure entitlement plays into it as much anymore. I'm getting the impression that people are beginning to pirate the games just to spite the publishers who make such draconian schemes as this. I see more and more people posting (and, in conversation, saying), "This sucks! I'm not a criminal! If they do this, then I'm going to pirate the game!". Doesn't make it right, but it does appear that measures such as Ubisoft's are increasing the piracy problem, rather than decreasing it, simply because people are contrary and do not like being treated as though they were already criminals.
  14. Hurlshot, Interplay won the rights to continue producing it. There's still a legal dispute in that they're now trying to get back the complete FO rights, but I don't know if that will happen.
  15. I didn't enjoy the demo when it came out for PS3 a couple of weeks ago. At the time, I thought that it was simply too short to get an accurate feel for the mechanics of flight and of combat. However, reviews like this one suggest that it it may not be length of the demo that gave me that impression, but that the game is, basically, crap. That's a bit disappointing, as I loved the idea of essentially being the Rocketeer.
  16. Picked up PoP: Sands of Time last night and am playing it with my daughters. Yes, the trailers for the new game and movie did influence me some, but the biggest influence was when I went back to play the latest PoP and realized that, while pretty, there was hardly any game there, and I could not even get to the first boss as a result. PoP:SoT was one of the best games I've played in the last ten years, so it was only a matter of time before I had to get it.
  17. Wasn't referring to Obsidianites, but to the people making the comments in those YouTube vids. They think ME2 is going to be the greatest game ever because of some Blur video.
  18. Okay, this is something that bothers me a great deal. The last two games (DA and ME2) the majority of preview trailers have consisted of FMV that is not in the game at all. Depictions of actual gameplay have been very brief. Yet, everyone seems to believe that the game will be the best game ever based solely upon these non-game FMVs. Why is that? Are we gamers really that shallow?
  19. "Why should I? What's in it for me?" "Your bargaining posture is highly dubious, but very well. I will provide you with a new body and new troops to command." "And?" "And nothing! You belong to me now." "I belong to nobody!" "Perhaps I misjudged you. Proceed, on your way to Oblivion." "Argh! No! No, I accept your terms! *more screaming*" "Excellent." Yeah, that almost works for Mass Effect. dude you just made my day week and month! sooooooo awesome! Same here :D If we could give points for excellent posts, I'd give you 1337 right now!
  20. Playing Darksiders right now on my PS3, and loving it. Screw Gamespot and IGN; comparison of two games on two different systems which came out over a 13 year period and which not everyone has played does not mean that the game is only average. Though I have noticed that at both sites any game not from a big name but which is good will get a 7.8-8.0, never higher, while poor big-name games will get a lowest score of 8.5.
  21. Yes indeed. Mwuahahahahaaaa!!! I thought he was a river to his people? Weird. So, ME1 had DLC debacles, and now DA:O's first post-release DLC has been pushed back for the second time. Yet, Bioware wants to continue the DLC stream with ME2? I hate to be a doomsayer, but if I were eagerly anticipating ME2 DLC (no longer really anticipating ME2 at all, TBH, due to the resurrection spell), I would start feeling quite a bit of trepidation.
  22. I suppose that banging one's secretary is a little bit less creepy than putting the moves on inferior officers for whom one has direct command responsibility... That quote was more for general RPG romance options, not Shepard specifically. Shepard's still breaking regs by fraternizing with her, but in general I find more dramatic potential in non-joinable romance options. Take Dragon Age, for instance. Would you have felt more compelled to save Fereldan if doing so would mean that your loved one would remain safe? With the JNPC romances, you could theoretically leave Fereldan to rot as you and your equally-competent paramour head off to Orlais or wherever. If your lover, though, can't leave and isn't some super-duper adventurer who can survive a trek through darkspawn-filled wilderness and crossing the mountains afterward, then you have more impetus to save the kingdom.
  23. So, I was cruising the ME2 forums during lunch, and it appears that there is a new love interest. I've been waiting for Bio to include a fully-romanceable NPC who isn't a joinable party member. I thought it might happen with in DA:O, but that was more Personally, I find this a bit more realistic than some of the JNPC romance options, and gives the main character another reason to save the country/world/galaxy/universe.
  24. That's a "No, no definitive answer", then. Thanks.
