  1. My ATI 9800 XT runs KOTOR flawlessly at high resolution. Keep in mind that KOTOR (and KOTOR 2) are written in OpenGL code. Nvidia cards have historically run OpenGL better than ATI, but I have had absolutely no problems. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I switched from ATI to Nvidia partly because of the bugs in ATI's OpenGL driver. We all remember how KotOR would crash every so often when loading a level due to a driver glitch that took ATI 8 Catalyst releases to fix. Plus; there were numerous errors: The crystals in the cave on Dantooine would have corrupted textures, the light in HK-47's eyes were missing, the orange parts of Bastila's clothing were partly transparent so you could see the background through her, etc. All of which amounted to me finally getting an Nvidia GeForce6800GT. A purchase I've thoroughly enjoyed
  2. Unfortunately; in this case your statement is absolutely true. Since LA/Obsidian have no intention of even doing a demo version of TSL, piracy is the only way to try before you buy. I'd like this to change, really. But as I've said before: The TSL US Xbox version is *not* worth the $50. I daresay that a game like TSL is why some people get Modchips instead of buying games. The PC version has alot to redeem...if only technically, as we all know that LA would never allow Obsidian to fix some of the huge plotholes.
  3. Still undecided: It'll have to have *lots* of improvements over the Xbox version, as TSL in its current state is barely worth the time of even a download.
  4. I would recommend an upgrade to either a GF6600GT or a GF6800GT. The 6800GT should keep you going for about a year and a half before an upgrade would become essential.
  5. Incorrect. It's the GF6800Ultra that has 2 power inputs. My GF6800GT just has the one. And I'd say go for the GF6800GT. I got mine a few weeks ago and haven't regretted it a second. Try Half-Life 2 at 1600x1200 with 4x Anti Aliasing and 8x Anistophic Filtering on...Smooth as silk. And KotOR doesn't look half bad at those setting either
  6. Well, not if the simultanious release had been February. I think alot would've been caught during those two extra months. But after playing TSL I'm starting to think February might've been to short too. I think they should've held off all versions until summer and fixed the bugs and the gaping plotholes. Then it might've actually been more than a "cash-cow" sequel.
  7. I guess I will just have to play my version of the the game then sometime around june go to wal-mart and exchange it for a new version.... this is saying that there is going to be a new version for the North America market. Also a directors cut, double pack or however you want to pack it/ call it, would be great the only thing I would want for them to do in the "double pack" is to include the Yavin download for kotor in the release... or in other owrds so I wouldn't have to Download it. p.s. I didn't buy the game at wal-mart but they are very slack on their return policy so its all good :D . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, Stargate I think you're out of luck. The general attitude towards bugs in console games is : "Let the users deal with it, we already have their money." Considering LA's very poor record in terms of Technical Support I don't think you should ever expect to see KotOR2 revised. If you want the bugfixes, I think you'll have to either import a PAL version or get the PC edition. PS2 PAL releases generally have much fewer bugs than their NTSC counterparts, and most of the time the games include bonus material as well Like Konami has done with Metal Gear Solid 3: That game won't be out in PAL until March, but they have announced two new gamemodes and extra as-of-yet unrevealed bonus material to make up for the wait. I would like to see this become industry standard, myself. Especially as both games and console hardware generally costs 1/3rd more here than in the States. Which is the #1 reason that console gaming is mostly confined to the US and Japan. I don't see this changing unless companies like Sony and Microsoft lower their international prices and start releasing games and hardware on a global basis, as in: everywhere at once. That would combat piracy, too. (I know I'm not in the States but have a K2 Xbox copy anyway...do the math).
  8. They've abandoned that, saying that consoles were to limited for the Source engine to use. Hence: No console port of Half-Life 2. (It was cancelled a few months back.)
  9. I remember...A long, long time ago there was a game called Jedi Knight, and that's the last in-house game I remember from LA, after that they switched over to just outsourcing the games. And rightly so, lest we forget the horror that was Force Commander. So do I...a GF6800GT Can't wait to see how this'll look at 1600x1200 resolution. The original KotOR looks totally fab, but you can really tell the limitations of the engine at those settings when you compare them to a game like Half-Life 2. Hmm, now *there's* an interesting idead...a KotOR game based on the Source engine. Bastila would look really good in that, hehe. I don't get it, the reviewers say the graphics look the same in kotor 2 as in kotor? and kotor 1 got game of the year for being such a brilliant game and I agree, but I don't get why the certian silly reviewers are down grading kotor 2's graphics...I mean graphics are great but certian reviewers who review graphics as every thnig can be p*g headed! at times...I mean when I was on duntooine in kotor I really liked that sting ray like creature flying in the sky lol. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have had framerate issues, and lockups. (though that was after the Xbox had been on for like 14 hours straight, heh). So they could really spend some time ironing that out for the PAL Xbox and PC versions. It is very noticable when you go into a place like a cantina where there are lots of people and occasionally particle effects(smoke). That can cause the framerate to drop alot. The reviews I've read say it very simply: The graphics are the same as KotOR. And I'd have to agree; asides from a few tweaks like the new robes, some weather effects, then the game looks just about the same as KotOR did. And KotOR looked good when we first saw it...a year ago. After having seen games like Half-Life 2 and Vampire: Bloodlines, I can't say I'm as impressed with KotOR2's graphics as I was when I first saw KotOR. And that's no surprise: The engine is more than a year old, and asides from a few tweaks, nothing's been changed in it. Some people will think this lame, I think it just creates a feeling of deja vu. When playing the game (especially Korriban and Dantooine) I found myself constantly getting mental images of how those locales looked in KotOR. The unfortunate side-effect of some of the extra stuff Obsidian has tried to add on the graphical front is that they tend to bog down the framerate(at least on Xbox). Because it just adds onto the framerate problems of the original KotOR, so KotOR2 has more of them, unfortunately. Oh, and consider me a die-hard Kotorian ever since the first game was released last year I think writing the fic about it is what ultimately sealed my fate, hehe.
  10. Chances are you'll need a Modchip, Skye. I had a friend ship me over some used games from the US to see if it'd work and it didn't. So I got a Modchip and I finished TSL yesterday. But; as was said here, this problem needs to be dealt with. There is no reason for all the English speaking countries in Europe, as well as Australia to be made to wait for French, German and Spanish translations that they are never going to play regardless. This regionalisation has to stop, prefferrably by means of the game studios stepping up to the plate and saying that they will just stop it and then following through on it. The other option is the one I took. A modchip. My Xbox will play whatever I toss into it now. But for the next gen consoles; I've already decided that I'll have a friend in the US buy me one and ship it over here. Both the hardware and the games are cheaper in the US anyway.
  11. Main issues are: -Extremely long load times. -Framerate problems(severe, at times). -Clipping errors. -Dialogue loops(you can stay in the same conversation over and over again). The first two would be eliminated on the PC version, I'd imagine, provided you have the hardware. I would hope that Obsidian tries to resolve them on the PAL Xbox version too, though. They might as well do something constructive over the next two months, heh.
  12. I have had a DVD drive in my PC for the past 3 years or so. I use my PC for watching my DVD movies, because I'm a student and can't afford some huge home theatre setup. I live in Europe, which means that I got the international release of Half-Life 2 and I have to say that I am veyr happy that this was just a single DVD instead of the 5-6 CD's that the US retail version was. I would very much like to see Kotor2 on DVD-ROM instead of CD-ROM. It really is time to move on from CD's now, just as it was once time to move on from floppy disks.
  13. Actually, I hope they up the quality. For Xbox cutscenes, KOTOR's were alright, but they just didn't match up well on the PC. Heh, when running the game at 1600x1200 with all the goodies on, getting bumped down to 640x480 for every cutscene isn't optimal. The rest of KOTOR actually looked better than the cutscenes of you had a PC to match. So, I'm actually hoping that Obsidian will do different cutscenes for both versions. One for the Xbox version and a CGI-bonanza for the PC version. *pokes Devs* And an animated kiss, this time *stops poking*
  14. Easy for you to say: You aren't the one who put all your faith in this company and this product just to be slapped across the face with it, and played the fool for believing in Obsidian/LA. And there's the simple fact that alot of people just aren't going to wait until February if they have a modded Xbox. I mean; why should they? They can get the game in December.
  15. I dunno...I suppose that depends on how you take in the various factors. I know alot of people who've made it a point *not* to buy this game.(reasons stated) And I myself am still so-so. I think that the marketing of this product alone will lead to a decrease in sales as most of the people I've talked to are using..."alternate methods" of playing Kotor2. Can't say I blame them, I reeally can't. My own view is that this game might be good, but alot of people aren't gonna give Obsidian the benefit of the doubt after what happened, which will lead to decreased sales. So nah. It won't top Halo2, it might reach the sales of the first game, but I wouldn't bet on that, either.
  16. I do not believe KOTOR2 will beat Halo2 in sales. For one; it does not appeal to as many people, and secondly: Halo2 had a global release(which was honoured) and that helped tremendously. Even here: In tiny Denmark, people were queing for the midnight purchases at EBGames, and that has *never* happened before. MS even had the MasterChief himself pop in for a visit, heh. If KOTOR2 was to have had a chance at topping, or even reaching the sales of Halo2, then LA/Obsidian should have kept their word on the simultanious release. But since they haven't they'll lose money; and I'm fine with that.
  17. No way. The cool thing about KOTOR was that you were able to craft the story, and influence your character. I'd hate to lose that, though with all the different faces in KOTOR it would be hard to see how this would be implemented. I mean: How is KOTOR2 going to know what face I used for my Revan? Hmm...this adds a whole other layer of speculation to the whole thing.
  18. I've had a DVD drive for the past four or five years. And I'd like to see games the size of KOTOR2 released on DVD. Having to switch between four or five CD's is annoying, I think.
  19. Not without a fight from Adria and me and the other Mods there, lol. We're not going down without a fight
  20. And from a purely economical standpoint, LucasArts could have shipped and sold alot more Xbox games if they had simply done this. Now, I'm aware of the difference in the NTSC and PAL imaging systems, but seeing as how Nintendo can do conversions in two weeks and Halo2 just had a global release, I really can't see the logic. They would have certainly gotten more out of the international Christmas sales, had they done this.
  21. Well, I talked to Akari on PM and according to him, they've fixed most of the troubles in the engines, like the level-crash but, semi transparency and such. So according to him, the game is running fine on both Nvidia and ATI branded cards, with the latest official Catalyst driver (4.10). So, you should be all set
  22. Right, but it should be done tactfully. I don't want to pickup a datapad where it just says "they all died". That'd just be cheap <_< Good points here, rika. I'm a bit worried about Bastila, myself. If she appears and you have to either kill her or she dies some other way, that'd break my heart. I'm not totally obsessed with it, but I've talked to several friends who've said that if Bastila dies, then they won't be purchasing Kotor2. I wouldn't mind seeing her back, though. As she's by far my favorite Kotor character.
  23. Well, we'll see about this. In terms of the International versions, I really think we need to see a shift in policy here. Ok, game has to be localized for countries like France and Germany. Fair enough, they localize everything there. But, why should the people from the UK, Australia, Sweden, Holland, Norway, Denmark etc. who get the English language versions anyway continuously have to get the short end of the stick from this? I think the need here is for companies to do "English release" and then "Localized release" instead of US/International. Just my two cents. And I'll agree with Stargate, I've got both a PC and a (modded) Xbox, so it'll be interesting to see what changes are in the game. I'm still hoping for some additional goodies(even something like a few more crystals) for the international Xbox and the PC version, because of the poor marketing for this game. My personal opinion is that although the marketing was LA's section, it reflects back on Obsidian, and that, in turn has perhaps given them a bit of a credibility problem. I know it'll be awhile before I can read a statement from any of them again without going "Yeah, right." Sorry, back on topic: It's not that hard to do a global release, M$ proved that with Halo2, which made it all the way around in two days. And if Obsidian do have the extra two months for the PC version, they should find a way to put a little something extra in there.
  24. I'd pick the handmaiden...for me she's an obvious candidate
