  1. Don't know if you guys have been following this but the 2020 election is still not over The TLDR version is this: A Congressional district in Iowa was won by the Republican candidate by only six votes of just shy of 400k votes cast. The Democrat Candidate is contesting the vote, singling out just 12 of the 340 some odd disqualified votes that would have given her a nine vote win. Rather than go to the courts the Democrat has taken her case to the House of Representatives. She is asking them to seat her rather than the election winner. They actually CAN do that legally. Let see if I got this stright. The House of Representatives is being asked to overturn the results of a legally conducted, recounted twice, and certified election AND do it for a member of the party that CONTROLLS that decision. Hmmmm..... correct me if I'm wrong here but didn't someone JUST try to do that very thing a month or two ago? Loudmouth billionaire from Florida I think he was? Anyway, very curious to see how this goes. I'd bet a $100 against a soggy donut if they do seat the Democrat they are going to try VERY hard to keep it quiet. Hypocrisy is not a good look and faith in the electoral system is already at an all time low. I have a great idea for all candidates going forward: If you lose the elections STFU and go away! Try to do better next time.
  2. The world as it should be vs the world as it is
  3. Jesus was the ideal. Loves everyone unconditionally. Hell even dogs can’t pull that one off. He is the model we should all follow. As for me I decided to go in a different direction. Misanthropy. Hard to be called racist when you hate all the SOBs equally and avoid their company! 😂
  4. Besides, I’m sticking with my original prediction that all those people who hated Kavanaugh Will be singing his praises in a few years. That guy is the second coming of David Souter
  5. After Heller and MacDonald I am not really worried about the second amendment anymore. Besides at the end of the day I have no qualms whatsoever about open disobedience to a law I disagree with. I suspect I am far from alone on that count. And I believe you’ll recall I said Garland should’ve gotten a vote. Not saying he should’ve been confirmed but they did him dirty by not even giving him a chance. I seriously doubt Biden wants the left picking his Supreme Court nominees but you better believe if a vacancy comes up they are going to call in the favor they did for him by supporting them. I am far more concerned about “court packing”. Like I said that could get out of hand in a big hurry. And yes I think it is wrong and ageism at its nastiest for them to tell Breyer he needs to go now. That is his goddamn seat. A president nominated him, the Senate confirmed him and it’s his until he wants to give it up.
  6. I bought Stellaris Nemisis, the Lords of the North content pack for Crusader Kings 3, the Heirs of Alexander content pack for Imperator Rome, & OOTP 22. The other $1357 I’m sure I’ll just waste.
  7. If he did I do not recall. Kennedy had been talking about retirement for sometime I recall reading in WaPo. But there’s absolutely nothing the Republicans can do to prevent the Democrats from appointing a justice. They have complete control over the Senate. If a vacancy comes up it’s theirs to fill. Now what should be stopped is if they try to “pack” the court. Because that could get out of hand real quick. Suppose the Democrats add three more justices and fill them with radical liberals. Then the next time the Republicans have power they’ll add ten more all radical conservatives. Then the next time the Democrats can they’ll add another 10 and fill them with radical liberals. It won’t take long before the Supreme Court is bigger than the house of representatives. You see where that could get out of hand real fast. besides, over the last decade or so the most common supreme court breakdown was 9-0. 7-2 was the next most common. It is an incredibly important institution true but it is not of the world shattering kind that it’s come to take on. Take Roe for example. If the court ever overturned it abortion will still be legal everywhere. If states started to make it illegal Congress could intervene and make it legal nationwide. IMO The worst decision they have made in my lifetime was Kelo. But before the ink was even dry on the majority’s decision a number of state legislatures begin drafting laws preventing municipalities from using eminent domain in that fashion. I am very critical of our government. But the one beautiful thing about it is there is nothing it can do that cannot be undone.
  8. It sounds like the Democrats are pressuring Stephen Breyer to step down. They want to replace him with somebody younger and more radical while they still have full control over the government. Barack Obama himself tried to get Ruth Bader Ginsberg to do the exact same thing. That’s kind of a terrible thing to do. Both Breyer and Ginsberg are extremely intelligent and decent people. They shouldn’t be pressured to end their careers over political expediency. I don’t recall the Republicans doing that to Clarence Thomas. If they did I missed it.
  9. Nah there is only one oh wait, make that two:
  10. That’s wild, I never knew that!
  11. Well the new Cap ought to reach out to one of the old ones to see if they have some old duds lying around that might fit him. If he’s really lucky they might give him this:
  12. Didn’t they kill off the original captain America? I haven’t followed that storyline since the 70s.
  13. So I guess the new Captain America is gay Ok, that’s fine. Did they have to dress him like an idiot? C’mon man. Looks like he’s going over to help a friend paint his house
  14. Mine chambers two .45LC or two 410Ga slugs. And fits neatly in my front pocket. At 10 m or less it is absolutely deadly
  15. One of the things that turns American students off to STEM is the earnings are not commensurate with the education requirements. It's better than some fields of study to be sure. Certainly better than liberal arts. But the demand for the skills are not everywhere. They tend to be focused in hub cities like Dallas/Fort Worth, San Francisco Bay area, Raleigh Durham and places like that. So many engineers, SW developers, etc concentrated in one area drives down the wages. Scarcity is what leads to high value. Another problem with the "pipeline" of foreign engineers is it dilutes the talent pool so there are more applicants than jobs. Plus the way they teach kids math these days is really, REALLY convoluted. It's based on the associative rule and I get the idea is not to teach math but logical reasoning. But it takes a simple concept that we used to just memorize and makes it complicated. Sometimes I'm glad I never had kids. Imagine having to deprogram them every night from the nonsense they got in math class every day. 8 x 7 = 56. It just is. It's not a goddamned theorem that requires proving. Just memorize it.
  16. Online chess master lose his match, accuses opponent of cheating, and then things got ugly He’s right about one thing though. Chess computers do make certain moves that you just kind of expect. I guess if you played enough human and computer opponents you learn to spot the difference. As for the reactions, well nothing unexpected there LOL
  17. I’ve never tried this myself but I have heard from more than one place that a can of mace will stop a grizzly bear more effectively than a 44 magnum. Of course both solutions hinge on one thing: don’t freaking miss!
  18. The great thing about derringers is they never misfire. Yes you only get two shots but if one shot won’t deter an aggressor what good will seven do? The objective of carrying a firearm is not to get into a gun fight. It’s just to ward off a potential threat.
  19. Walrus takes a nap on an iceberg and wakes up in Ireland I hope he doesn’t feel too bad about it. After all haven’t we all gone out drinking and passed out in one place and woke up in another in our younger years? The story didn’t say anything about him waking up next to a overweight and less than attractive walrus whose name he didn’t remember but it definitely would fit in the story!
  20. Like China? You mean like labor camps, secret police, making dissenters disappear? The Soviet union was pretty excellent at those things too. You don’t really think a society that supplies a minimalistic standard of living where no one goes without but few prosper is worth a few unmarked graves do you? At what price do we sell agency over our own lives if the society you seek demands that as payment? you are not a hard hearted man. You do not desire to see the rights and liberties of the individual citizens curtailed. But I do think you would be willing to exchange that for some thing. And if you did I think you would find the free bread provided by the state would be the most expensive meal you’ve ever purchased.
  21. So have you given up on Russia?
  22. Daylight savings time in the US. Actually, for the first time in my life I am springing ahead with no job. I have nowhere to be and I don't really watch TV. It occurs to me I don't HAVE to change the clocks!
  23. Planted corn, butter beans, black eye peas, sweet yellows, and Videlias (green onions) today. Tomorrow I have to plant the zucchini, watermelon, honeydew, and summer squash. I’ve got cherry tomatoes and romas growing in the green house. In two weeks planting green beans and salad bowl lettuce. They have a shorter growing cycle. Trying to time this so every thing is ready at the same time. Now we wait
