  1. Bought a big cup of gumbo for breakfast. Heading home today by way of Shreveport. Going to look at a few other state parks along the way. Besides most of the places around here won’t let me bring Sunny in so to hell with them.
  2. Glorifying violence! LOL if that’s what they actually said they were even more clueless about the images than I was!
  3. First off that little quip was a facetious comment not intended to be taken seriously. I do that fairly often. Mock absurdity with absurd comments. I did not and do not see anyone’s liberty being violated here. It’s their license to do with as they please. What I DID suspect was a whole lot of nothing when it comes to “offensive images” in a children’s book. If they were so goddamn bad why was it impossible to find them on Google. None of the news stories were saying what they were or WHY they were bad. And I am preprogrammed to suspect all outrage is false until demonstrated otherwise so therein lies the sarcasm. Well Gfted linked a story with a couple of the pics and I agreed they were “very 1930’s” and not good for children’s books. I do not see any positional disconnect here. Heck even a few months ago I posted an article about a school district in Massachusetts somewhere “banning” books (my words once again being facetious) in class. Well they were not exactly banning they were being taken off the reading list in favor of other things. Even in that instance I didn’t say what they were doing was wrong I said their reasoning was stupid. A stupid action can be done by a person in authority for a stupid reason without it being a violation of anyone’s rights. That does not mean we can’t point it out and say it’s stupid. Not every little stupid thing that happens or that people get in a twist over roses to the level of the battle between liberty and government. Very few do. In fact if you would actually read my post you would’ve seen where I pointed out how stupid it is for conservatives to be bitching about this because they have been the driving force for banning books for over 150 years now. Usually for nebulous moral reasons, bad language, or just puritanical animus to anything not “Christian” however the aggrieved party chose to define it. And I ALAWAYS called that stupid too.
  4. Well they were taken in real time. Couple of minutes apart. I pulled over on the side of the road to watch it while Sunny did her business. She had been riding quietly for five hours and I don’t think she was gonna hold it much longer
  5. haven’t we established by now that I am, like most folks, not 100% aligned to any political philosophy? Just because I lean more in one direction over others does not mean I have to agree with it in all things. But... whatever. Think what you like. besides like you said they can do what they like with their books. Sell them, don’t sell them whatever. When a government entity tells them what to do or even makes the choice for them then I’ll get angry. So would you I’d imagine
  6. No actually the pics were too big to put in a single post.
  7. That would be a great opportunity to sell six books simultaneously while they are being talked about. People would buy them just for the curiosity
  8. I didn’t know that. That’s pretty wild. I think it’s probably better just to leave them as their written. They were a product of their time. The fact that that is offensive now is a credit to us more than a detriment to the people of those times. Maybe the proper message would not be to clean up the past so much as be proud that we left it in the past. But when it comes to children’s reading material that probably doesn’t work
  9. Fried catfish with butter beans and coffee
  10. LOL, I was being facetious. as for the pictures the two that Gftd linked, yeah that dog will not hunt in the modern era. Very 1930’s. So I’m guessing that re-illustrating them is out of the question? Unless it’s in the text too. Actually on second thought that’s probably not a good idea. Editing old books to suit modern mores would be very Orwellian and would totally ruin a lot of great works. I think Huckleberry Finn would be reduced to a pamphlet
  11. Speaking of Dr. Seuss, has anyone actually seen the pictures that are supposed to be offensive? I’ve tried searching the web and can’t seem to find them. Before we go goose-stepping around piles of burning books it would be kind of nice to see what has everyone in a twist to begin with. also let me say it’s kind of odd to hear conservatives bitching about banning offensive books. Especially since they have been the driving force for that kind of thing going all the way back into the 1800s. Usually for nebulous “moral” objections.
  12. @Elerondyou understand how the United States works. You got to give the people a bad guy to be afraid of. A bogeyman. The Republicans will tell you to be afraid of the immigrants, the Chinese, and the Democrats. The Democrats tell you to be afraid of the Russians, the evil corporations, and the Republicans. Oh, and Dr. Seuss. It’s all just hobgoblins. Most of them imaginary. The only thing that sucks is in standing up these hobgoblins to scare people into voting real people actually do get harmed. Most of our politicians would tell you that’s a small price to pay for their high paying jobs, lavish benefits, and multiple opportunities for graft. If a few kids get locked up in Texas, some poor sod spends the rest of his life in prison for smoking a joint, or people get bombed in the Middle East so be it.
  13. When you have real socialism the private market tends to go away. The state really doesn’t like competition. But on the upside there are plenty of job opportunities. Like secret police and labor camps. Marx didn’t envision such but no “real socialist “ country as ever done it without them.
  14. Night fishing at shell island all last night. Beautiful night, millions of stars. It got pretty chilly. Sunny was NOT happy. I made a fire by the slough and she slept so close some fur might have been singed. But I caught two Hard Head marine Catfish. One half again as long as my arm! Heading back to Burns point for some fired catfish, hot coffee and a shower.
  15. Pus it’s 80 degrees! Or 27 degrees depending
  16. Sunset on the road to Burns point
  17. What’s there to worry about? The former problem solves the latter!
  18. Webb did work at NASA. He was the NASA admin. Heck you could argue that he saved Apollo. After the Apollo one disaster the knives were out for the entire program.
  19. The ancient people remark was because we couldn’t use the word Delta. Being Greek in all an ancient white oppressor civilization. As far as people with untarnished legacies every time a name gets picked some skeleton comes waltzing out of the closet. But you’re right this is not a big deal it’s just stupid. But at some point haven’t we all just had enough of stupid?
