What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
I am working on a couple of applications for small business grants. I have what I believe is a workable small business plan. so let me run this by you guys. Because I think it’s a niche that is not being filled. Companies that sell homes stand by generators are a dime a dozen. You can buy them for most hardware stores. You can also buy smaller portable generators from most hardware stores. The former are prohibitively expensive and out of the reach for the middle class homeowner and the latter don’t do that much. But I have an idea that could change that. To run a complete average sized home on backup power you’re going to need about an 18,000 W generator. That’s to cover all the appliances the air conditioning at a reasonable use level. But in an emergency situation you don’t need everything to have power. To power a midsize refrigerator, a space heater, and maybe a TV or radio you can get by with a 600 to 700 W generator. So the idea is to sell small permanent power systems connected to large fuel sources. For example a 100 gallon propane tank. That’s what my 20,000 W home generator is connected to. A 650 W generator could run on 100 gallons of propane for a year with normal use. Rather than be connected to the homes electrical system the idea would be to install a set of auxiliary outlets connected to an external plug the generator would be plugged into. The homeowner would be required to plug whatever they want powered into the auxiliary plugs. The idea would be to provide complete power to just one room for example. Say a living room. Since it is not going through the home electrical system there are no impediments with the building code and since it is an isolated system within the house there is no need for transfer switches or backfeed protections. It’s a quick, clean simple solution that would cost the average homeowner under $1000. A large permanent generator will run you around $4000.

At the risk of sounding cavalier about the troubles or harsh about the responses people really should understand that the systems you most rely on will fail the moment you most need them. It’s up to the individual to provide for their own needs when that happens. This is the same argument I use against gun control. You cannot count on the police to protect your family. In the moment of crisis the threat is there, the police are not. You cannot count on your utility provider to always have power for you. You cannot count on the grocery stores always being open. You have to prepare. Everyone should be able to survive in their homes alone for at least five days. With everything you need to make that work. And to be able to do that you need to prepare. It’s just common sense to me.

If someone approached me when I was in my 30s and told me they had a career opportunity that would make me a multi millionaire in 10 years and one of the most influential people in media in 20 and all I had to do was be such a noxious piece of garbage that people will celebrate my death I would take that deal in a heartbeat! Tell me you wouldn’t and I’ll call you a liar LOL

LOL I have solar and it’s so useful right no I had to turn it off! I’m going to go with this being God‘s punishment. We’re so evil he rotated earth so the northern hemisphere Is further away from the sun. And if we’re not nice he’ll do it again next year! sometimes I feel sorry for God. He catches hell for a lot of stupid things

He was a guy doing schtick on the radio. That’s about it. No different from Howard Stern, Glenn Beck, Randi Rhodes or the long list of others. The fact that he had such an influence and lasted so long is that he was selling a product that people were buying. Disliking someone for that is like disliking John Sterling for calling radio games for the Yankees. If you didn’t want to listen to it just turn it off. Hell I did 25 years ago back when he had a TV show. I’ve never understood all the screeching and screaming for him to be taken off the radio. If you don’t like it, don’t listen.

Cancer is a terrible way to go. You wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Nevertheless some of the comments that are bubbling up from the media world shows how pretty classless people really are. Whatever you think of the man’s politics it’s kind of not cool to celebrate the fact that he died. Anyway de mortuis nihil nisi bonum- What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
It’s seriously bloody freaking cold out there and the damned snow is shin high. dammit I chose to live in the south because I don’t want to deal with this kind of weather! But at least we still have power. It went out for a little bit yesterday but I have a generator so that’s no big deal. I shut the solar system off to protect the batteries. Small good in this weather anyway. Even if there was sun I’m not going out there to clean the damn snow off of it- What You've Done Today - As the World Turns

He should have stuck with being a lawyer. Or maybe not. His unauthorized advance into Kentucky made them sympathetic to the Union. Plus you could argue he, Floyd, and Buckner lost the war when they abandoned Fort Donaldson (and their men) to Grant. That mostly settled the war in the west. But probably just as well. Had the CSA had competent leadership in the west who knows how much longer it might have dragged on.- What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
It's SNOWING. Heavily by our standards. I fed the chickens in their house and checked their heater. God help the hens if Duke is feeling randy today. There is no running away from him. Sunny took two steps out into the yard to do her business and beat a hasty retreat to the house. I'm going to make a pot of coffee, a bowl of oatmeal and watch some TV. Re-watching "From the Earth to the Moon" on HBO Max.- Weird, random, interesting - now with 100% less diacriticals
Pentagon admits it has been testing wreckage from UFO crashes & findings may ‘change our lives forever,’ expert says OK, this is not the NY Times. But still, a news piece like this you'd figure would make a bigger splash. Especially since there are a heck of a lot of them coming from credible new sources over the last two years. Now, I am pre-disposed to be skeptical of this kind of them. But still... I think most folks would refuse to believe in aliens even if Joe Biden introduced one at the next Press Briefing.- What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
Depends on what the sediment is. Lime deposits are neutrally buoyant for example. Iron deposits can leave you with clear water but scale residue once it evaporates. These kinds of suspended solids are not harmful in the quantities you are likely to have coming from a natural water source. But they definitely affect quality. A 100 micron filter would likely eliminate 95% of suspended and fix the taste. so long as your water is not too acidic. If it IS acidic that is what you need to fix. You could test the PH pretty easily. anything below 7.2 or above 8.4 is not going to taste good. If the water is too "soft" or too "hard" a water softener will fix that. The fact that you only notice the difference in the summer leads me to believe it's environmental rather than chemical. For example in the summer the ground isn't frozen so rainfall causes collected metals, carbon and calcium in the soil over the winter to filter into the aquifer. So filtration is likely all you need to worry about. If you don't mind throwing a little money at the problem a reverse osmosis filter will cure almost all water problems. Low volume RO's are cheap but but one for the whole house will set you back more than a few Euros. But I suspect a more dense filter will fix your problem based on the way you described it.- Politics US Edition (2021-vol 2)
Washington DC, where one rat tribe tries to convince everyone the other rat tribe is a rat tribe. They are both right. Just because one is worse doesn't make the other good. And which one IS worse is a fluid situation. Right now it's the red rats. Later it will be the blue. In the past they have rotated. F--k all of them. There are naught but villains here.- What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
You might need to put a sediment filter in line. The water may have too many suspended solids- What You've Done Today - As the World Turns
