In the 1990s up to the Obama years the US gave China over $1B in aide every two years on average. Obama cut that to tens of millions. The use that to build the second largest Navy on earth that they are using to threaten to go to war with us over Taiwan. How much influence did all that taxpayer earn money actually buy? Think about that ****. American citizens worked to earn the money that will buy the weapons that may be used to kill their children on the battlefield.

It’s been done before. Kentucky used to be part of Virginia. West Virginia used to be part of Virginia. Maine used to be part of Massachusetts. Although all of those had compelling reasons other than current political climate for making those moves. Making Maine a state was a slavery compromise. West Virginia refused to leave the union wind Virginia did so they broke off. but actually I can see their beef though. Most of the population in complete control of the state legislature in governors mansion is west of the Cascades. They feel like they are second class citizens in their home state. And are treated as such as often as that. All of the money is on the other side of the mountains. Gromnir brought up the water problems in Southern Oregon the other day. There are no good answers to that but it’s hard to argue the folks in Salem are making it worse not better .

The point isn’t that US arms companies are selling arms abroad. The point is that foreign nations are using US financial aid to buy them. Biden releases the freeze on Iranian assets And suddenly Hamas has money to build new rockets. Maybe that’s a coincidence. Maybe there are green mice on Mars. One of the first things I would do as president not that the president has the power to do this but bear with me here is cut off all foreign aid. Every dime, every nickel, every penny. Far more often than not such aid is used to kill people then to help them.

The Babylon Bee is starting to sound less and less like satire and more like real news every day. Because they kind of hit the nail on the head with this one. If it were up to me it’s past time we as a country turned our backs on that whole sorry mess. They’re going to kill each other no matter what. We don’t have to help them and we don’t have to stop them.

Not a fan of automatic weapons. Or even semi auto. In fact none of my firearms with three exceptions would look out of place at the OK corral or 1916 France. But lately I’ve gotten into and really am enjoying muzzleloaders. The chance to mix different powder loads with different mass projectiles and sabots is both interesting and fun. I have finally realized I will not be able to get my rifle past 500m. The best performance at that range is a 30 caliber mini ball using a sabot and 110 grains. Any more than that to powder burns outside the barrel. If you see fire coming from the end of a muzzleloader you’ve used too much propellant. You need to figure your powder charge based on your barrel length. Once the powder has started to burn there is a finite amount of time before the projectile exits the barrel. Any powder still burning after the projectile is gone was wasted. My rifle has a 28 inch barrel. There is no way physically possible for it to fire projectile 1000 m. The barrel needs to be longer. More barrel length means more propellant which means more time for that propellant to burn which means more speed on the projectile. But I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed figuring all that out.

there is a great line in the book “the Martian “that didn’t make it into the movie. Well they asked the German chemist to build a bomb to blow the nose valve the ship he said he spent most of his career and chemistry trying to avoid making bombs!

Plus we know how to make bombs

You are surprised he slipped through the cracks. I’ve been inside that particular machine and it doesn’t surprise me at all.

Well it was a Simon Whistler video. I love that guy I subscribe to all of his channels. The biography channel is my favorite. but his analysis was right imagined with that boyis mind could’ve done if he had had a little guidance. I was just more responding to what you said about making it all the way to Lance Corporal like that was in achievement. I just got a chuckle out of that. I could see how his mental health issues could go unnoticed though. I don’t know how it is in the other services but in the Marine Corps if you were a private, PFC, or Lance Corporal it’s something of a minor miracle if anybody even knows your name. His squad mates and platoon mates probably wouldn’t have the education to notice the problem. And the people who would like officers and staff NCOs would not really interact with a lance corporal in such a way that would tip them off. but like I said my comment wasn’t really about the video it was about your comment which made me laugh a little.

Lance corporal is like a participation trophy. As long as you see lightning and hear thunder and can complete a PFT you’ll get the rank. It’s getting past it that is a little hard

How hundreds of “Jeopardy!” contestants talked themselves into a baseless conspiracy theory — and won’t be talked out of it. Well said

Raithe you are going to find a great many of the truths that we cling to depend on your point of view.

I did not know this!

God forbid! I would love to see them lose one or the other or both houses of Congress. Then we can cruise quietly into 2024. As long as at least one house of Congress is controlled by the opposite party of the president I will be happy. Divided government: It’s like getting underwear for Christmas. Maybe it’s not what you wanted but it is what you needed.

Oh no argument on that count. No governing entity higher than a county school board in the United States has had any appetite for banning books. At least none that I can recall. Hardly new, just who wants material restricted and why has changed. And nobody that I recall has ever argued we should put them in a pile and light them up. But the point I have been making and you seem to agree with at least in part is the attitudes are trending in the wrong direction. As for Thomas signaling his willingness to overturn Roe on a completely unrelated case, if you hadn’t pointed that out I never would’ve noticed it. I guess he was being to subtle for me. Of course at the court were to gut the decision The Congress could fix it in the very next term if they wanted to. That’s really who should’ve done it from the get go anyway. Edit: to reiterate what I have said in the past abortion is very icky to me. Particularly partial birth abortion where a live baby is delivered and killed. That strikes me as barbaric. But I absolutely will not ever have my judgment and morality imposed upon someone else. I won’t do it to them and I don’t want the state to do it to them in my stead. Because I sure as hell don’t want it done to me. That’s why I think it should be legal and just let people decide what to do for themselves. At the end of the day we were all individually accountable to God for what we’ve done.

I have read Fahrenheit 451. Next to “The one who waits” it’s my favorite Bradbury work. I even referenced it in my first reply to Hurlshot The scary part about populist movements and polarized political factions sooner or later they end up with power. We just had a teensy little taste of that. Can’t say I enjoyed the flavor. Not looking forward to the next helping. oh also, it’s not an unfair criticism to say I am overreacting to what might be a one off news story. But another way to look at it is this new story is yet another brick in the wall of our eventual prison.

Referees absolutely F——d the Panthers disallowing that first goal on a bulls—t call. That set the stage for the first lightning call and everything that came there after. Not cool with this. Not in a good place at all.
