  1. Supreme Court to hear Mississippi abortion case well doesn’t this just throw a lit match into the hay barn
  2. Oh I don’t disagree there are more voices from more diverse backgrounds. The problem is they seem to all be shouting the same things and not brooking any disagreement in them. I hope you’re right though. And you are in a better position to judge than I am. I would love to be optimistic about our future. It’s been along time since that was true. I probably shouldn’t worry though. I never had children and no matter what I won’t be around to see it.
  3. Oh I didn’t suggest they were banning books. Not this time at least LOL. Although I do think that still where we’re heading as a people. Dissenting opinions and contrarian philosophies are far more likely to be shouted down than ignored. Much less tolerated and even much less entertained. That’s a shift. As far as satire is concerned you need to look no further than Facebook and Twitter and their treatment of the Onion and the Babylon Bee. And those are examples of satire intended purely for humor. But we appear to be collectively losing our sense of humor when it comes to politics. obviously you are much closer to the attitudes of the academic world than I am. But from where I stand and the things I read the idea of future generations of Americans goose-stepping around piles of burning books is not so far-fetched. Or, in an even more dystopian outcome the idea of retroactively editing e-books to suit current political mores seems like something that can happen all to easily. Somewhere down the road there might be a job opportunity for Guy Montag after all. such things happen gradually and I worry that we are in the nascent steps.
  4. Agree with Bruce. Even though you and I butt heads occasionally I’d rather have you here.
  5. Jesus this is almost as bad as taking her to a taxidermist
  6. Tommy was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. He wasn’t a purebred but he wasn’t many generations away from it.
  7. St. John’s professor fired for reading from Mark Twain novel it was PuddinHead Wilson. Which was actually anti-racist and a pretty good read. Anyway being a Twain novel about the slavery era the N word was used in the text and quoted. Some little millennial snowflake or two in the class couldn’t stand hearing the word even in the context of a historical and satirical novel that actually disparages racism complained. Next thing you know professor fired. Of course the University said it wasn’t over that but it certainly occurred after that so it makes you wonder. Im telling you guys this is where all this is leading:
  8. Dodgers sign Pujols for the rest of the season that worked out well. He doesn’t even need to move. I wonder when a guy like that has gone into such a deep decline is he even aware of it? I mean he sees his stat sheet but deep down inside do you think he’s aware that in the last five seasons he has not hit over .220? Belanger, Muncy, and Beatty are all first baseman, all on the Dodgers and all better hitters than him.
  9. Worked in the garden most of the day. Had the Rays vs Mets game on the radio. Sitting on the porch with Sunny drinking iced tea and enjoying the view. It’s been a good day.
  10. Of course democracy does not mean liberty. And for that matter dictatorship does not necessarily mean tyranny. You can absolutely elect your tyrant and it’s at least theoretically possible a dictator would be respectful of individual liberty. The list of elected tyrants is a long one indeed the list of benevolent dictator is short. In fact I can’t think of one off the top of my head. there are those here in this country who seem to think the democratically elected state is infallible because it represents “the will of the people“. That of course is a large quantity of night soil from a large male bovine.
  11. 'We've tried democracy and it failed': Adoring El Salvadorians swoon over their millennial dictator
  12. Kid Reporter Damon Weaver Who Interviewed Obama Is Dead At 23 oh man this just sucks. I remember him. Mainly because I know where Pahokee Florida is. So sad.
  13. I understand China’s rover landed on Mars today. Now they’re going to start stirring up trouble up there. I bet they’re going to send their rover to get to the best rocks ahead of all of ours!
  14. America threatened by solar storm activity this is an interesting article about a problem that’s not uncommon. But God help me when I saw the headline my brain went here first:
  15. Replika: an AI imaginary friend I bet the more you talk to it the more information that gathers about you. Five bucks says the bitch stealing stealing your passwords!
  16. And here we are in 2021. A bunch of people still think the world is flat, the moon landing never happened, the virus that’s killed 1 million people isn’t real, and that thinking 2+2 = 4 makes you a racist white supremacist. The only science-fiction aspirations we’re living up to are the dystopian ones!
  17. Doesn’t make it OK. And as far as what you see on the news remember if they are not there to inform you they are there to tell you a story. They will show you whatever it takes to tell the story they want to tell. personally I say we build a big wall around the entire region, give everybody in a gun and a grenade close the gates. In a year open them again. Of course at the end of that year everybody will probably still be alive and all be friends because let’s face it maybe they wouldn’t be fighting if not for the outside influences.
  18. Hamas fires rockets and kills Israelis; no big deal. IDF responds and they are murderers. Same ole same ole.
  19. So let’s see here. Gas is seven dollars a gallon in some places. There are shortages and lines. Inflation has hit double digits. We appear to be in a malaise. The White House is occupied by feckless Democrat Who took over for an incompetent Republican. All we need now is for the Iranians to grab some hostages and it’s 1978 over again. Oh wait...KISS is releasing a new album! Quick somebody get a Biden a cardigan sweater.
  20. we have a version of that lottery already. They’re called IRS audits! I remember reading that story a long long time ago. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that story inspired one of the vaults in fallout new Vegas.
  21. Palm Beach police contingency planning for Trump indictment I have to say I would have to have a big bowl of popcorn and be parked next to the TV for that one.
  22. That was not an insurrection. It was a mob. A riot. In December 1860, South Carolina seceded from the United States. Four months later it told it’s militia to fire on Fort Sumter. That was an insurrection. Those idiots thought they were doing some kind of a “protest“. They had no idea of going in there and overthrowing the government taking over the country. That’s what it insurrection is. Calling what happened an insurrection is deliberately mischaracterizing it for political purposes. What actually happened was already pretty freaking terrible. It’s both cynical and dishonest to make it sound worse.
