  1. KP is right. No matter how many more votes the LP candidate might be able to attract the next POTUS will be either Trump or Clinton. The best outcome I could hope for is to at least get our candidate on the debate stage and in the conversation. To at least get a 3rd viewpoint in the discussion. It may pay dividends in later years or it may not but at least it will give a third party a fighting chance at future viability.. But I firmly believe the LP message is a rational on that will resonate with a lot of people. A third party vote might not get a third party candidate elected but it is never a wasted vote. Especially in this case when the other alternatives are mutually objectionable.
  2. Isn't this an infringement of the US free speech? Freedom of Speech, or of anything else for that matter is not something this current President (or the one before, or the one before him. or the next one probably) troubles themselves over Bruce. Do you think it's right for the IRS to be used to punish political activites the current administration disapproves of? Do you think it's right for the adinistration to set up a website for citizens to report groups or persons who were speaking ill of the ACA? Do you think it's right for the administration to instruct law enforcement to pay special scrutiny to returning veterans as they might be likely terrorists all while denying them benefits and at the same time allowing millions of illegal immigants to cross the border with no policing? While you are thinking those over chew on this: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/dems-on-fec-shift-from-regulating-drudge-to-conservative-cellphone-texts/article/2591255 Nothing like going to prison for sending an anti-obama text message to make you love the "free" country you find yourself in
  3. I genuinely dislike the Republican party and most of it's members. But I just f-----g HATE the Democrats. Here is another reason why: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/dems-on-fec-vote-to-regulate-political-jokes/article/2592922 Huckabee makes a political joke and they want a criminal investigation. I guess he ahould be taken to the Ministry of Love for re-education. That is what worries me about Hillary. Obama has come perilously close to making thought and speech a crime. Hillary seems inclined to continue that. People like Ann Ravel who also wanted to shut down web sites like Drudge Report are enabling that agenda.
  4. In all seriousness he appealed to what he called "The Great Silent Majority" of everyday folks who were put off by all the ant-war (and anti-American) protests of the left. But at the same time they were put off by the seemingly pointless Vietnam conflict and the way Johnson was mishandleing it as well and Nixon comes to them and promises to end the war "with honor" , restore American prestige, and basicly not be Hubert Humphrey who was the darling of the socialist left in those days. There are definite parallels. Only the protesters today are protesting Trump himself rather than a war no one liked anyway.
  5. I am not familiar with the history of how most of the US presidents got elected before 1990 or so.....how did Nixon get elected? He got 301 electoral votes.
  6. This has been the talk around the VFW for years. It's interesting to see others grasping the point as well: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/02/america-is-tired-of-being-the-worlds-protector-we-have-been-warn/
  7. I'm curious about your argument as to why you think this. I'm not convinced either way yet - I feel like it's a complete tossup right now what will happen - but maybe you can convince me your way. With just the never-ending amount of bad and worse and even worse news for Hillary in regards to her emails lately, I feel much more optimistic about it now than I have in the past...so what makes you so sure? At the end of the day the FBI can only make a recomendation. The DOJ is the one empowered to seek and indictment. Who is running that organization again? If the FBI recomends in favor of and the DOJ declines it looks bad. But they will not disrupt an election they are likely to win to actually DO justice. Besides, justice is not what the DOJ is all about anymore anyway.
  8. I will tell you all one thing. The fastest way to move Donald Trump to 1600 Pensylvania Ave. is to do BS like this: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/violence-breaks-trump-rally-san-jose-protesters-hurl/story?id=39576437 Burning the US flag, waving Mexican flags, assaulting people, trashing cars. If you want to put people backs up and geting them voting from Trump this is the way to do it.
  9. Two things... 1) Gary Johnson has my vote. I hope beyond hoping he hits the magic 15% to get on the debate stage. If having one of those two idiots in the White House is the price for dragging the Libertarian Party onto the national stage and giving it a shot at becoming a national player I'll suffer them and be happy for it. We'll be better off in the long run with a viable 3rd party. No guarantee that will happen but this is the best chance ever. 2) If Hillary was going to be indicted it would have happened already. That is not to say she did or did not deserve it of that justice was served, or not. I'm just saying it isn't going to happen.
  10. My favorite line you didn't see in "Return of the King". After the eagles pick Sam & Frodo up at the mountain , Frodo turns to Gandlaf and says "Why didn't you tell me you had these things last year?"
  11. Well, you are named after a dog.... This went totally over my head for almost 30 minutes... I hang my head in shame!
  12. The new Master of Orion game. Its.... I don't love it. I like it. don't love it. It does take some strategic decisions out of your hands. Although it is cool to see all the old factions again. Like running onto old friends.
  13. That is what I'd call a perfect day.
  14. I've always said the Libertarian party would be more popular if more folks were able to hear from them.
  15. Once hes done with The Trump Wall, were finally going to build that water pipeline from Alaska that was quashed in the 90's. You others water rich countries take note. If this doesn't work were coming for your water too. But seriously, why aren't we just making desalination plants every 10Ft? Weve got thousands of miles of coast. The majority of drinking water in Okinawa was desalinated. Tasted fine to me.
  16. Apparently Gary Johnson is hitting as high as 10% in some polls. Which is interesting considering most folks have no clue who he is. But if he manages to get to 15% in any of the "big four" and can get on the debate stage.... I'd pay to see that! http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/05/27/spotlight-on-libertarian-convention-amid-voter-unease-over-trump-clinton-race.html
  17. I don't think there is anything seriously wrong with the board But some members can be a little more polite and reasonable to new members. We also shouldn't feel the need to perhaps overreact to every strange thing a new member may post or say? So for example, a new member comes to the forum and says something maybe controversial. The reaction from this should be measured perhaps as new people dont know the various forum personalities and maybe have a understandable, negative response from the amount of vitriol they receive ? I don't get the complaint at all. She was not mistreated or insulted. Like TN said, no complaints came from her. What do you consider to be polite? Agreeing with someone for the sake of politeness? Sorry Bruce, that isn't how the internet works. If you say something in a "debate" forum you had better be prepared to defend it because it is going to be challenged. Don't jump into the pool unless you're ready to swim. I don't think anyone on this board has been disagreed with more than I have the last 12 years or so (Jesus Christ has it been that long?) But I keep coming back because THAT is the point of it. To hear different opinions, defend your own & challenge theirs. Vigorously argued alternate viewpoints are the one thing that spices this board up. Do you even know how rare that is? Most internet forums tend to segregate themselves when it comes to opinion until they become monolithic echo chambers. That is completely boring. For whatever reason it never happened here on the WoT forum of a small computer game designers website. Rather than b------g about it SS should be happy to have found it. But for whatever reason it wasn't for her so she denounced us and left. Bye bye. Assume for a moment here entire backstory was true. It took years before I posted any personal details about myself here. Most others the same. She led off with it and it IS an improbable story. She made THAT a topic of conversation. Well, improbable stories get challenged. Besides, if I told everyone I was actually a globetrotting archaeology professor who traveled around looking for lost treasures wearing a fedora, leather jacket and bullwhip would you have believed me?
  18. Hardholme happens in the books. Jon (or any other pov character for that matter) just isn't there. I don't know how the person who wrote this article can say the show made it up whole sale. The books still have a lot of characters alive that aren't around in the show, but the plot it still moving in similar directions. I don't want to get into all the changes, and what I think is going to happen because it is a giant can of worms and people who haven't read the books have some surprises in store if the show gets them to read them. In short, I don't agree with this article with the exception that I agree Martin is a slow writer. Hardhome in the books had few details and it was strongly hinted no one survived. So that it happened is not new. That Jon was there and killed a WW was made up and worked really well for a TV show. Martin has used the WW sparingly as a literary tactic to build up dread. That works better on page than on screen I think. A difference of presentation. The point the article made that I found interesting is "Has the plot gotten away from Martin". He is planning on two more books. Can he wrap up the story he's created in that time? I remember a while back, after ASoS came out he said he envisioned this story as a two act play with five years separating the two. The first three books were the first act. And they certainly did feel that way. The middle book was supposed to be the intermission that covered a longer period of time and moved the pieces around. The final two were the second act. But the middle book got too large, was split in two and now the original plan seems to have been changed. Now moving into what should be the road to the conclusion and the story is getting bigger. New characters, new plot lines, more details to be fleshed out before they can be wrapped up. The show is moving into an "end game" and the books don't seem to be.
  19. Interesting perspective: http://www.vox.com/2016/5/27/11787534/game-of-thrones-show-better-than-books-spoilers?yptr=yahoo&ref=yfp
  20. I haven't seen SS around so I guess we DID put another head on the city gates. Of course we had tell-off threads before and the denouncing party still lurked around after. Whatever. There is nothing wrong with this board. If you're expecting to have your ass kissed you've come to the wrong shop.
  21. Well here is a rotten onion for the stew: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/26/plans-to-create-an-eu-army-kept-secret-from-voters/
  22. I wish I was born 100 years from now so I could have been a cyborg. Imagine having a WiFi-like capability built directly into your brain and being able to at any time reference any information in the collection of humanity. /drool I wonder. When Cyborg implants and limb replacements become commonplace do you suppose they will be optional? Or will the future governments see them as "for your own good" and make them mandatory. I'd imagine it will be the latter. Especially the ones that control thought process.
  23. When you can't even finish ahead of the Prince of Darkness it's time to give up!
