  1. Not laughing at your tree. It just reminded me of this.
  2. LOL name one enterprise that has not ultimately sabotaged it’s own success! Or became the thing it was an alternative to. on second thought that’s not really a good comparison. The WFL was a weird duck right from the get go. And the country has never really had an appetite for any football other than NCAA or NFL. The graveyard of failed football leagues is big and has lots of headstones. There have been many versions of the MLS. So far this one avoided all of the mistakes the others made.
  3. So this is embarrassing. Yesterday the Marlins were playing the Rockies in Denver. It’s the ninth-inning, Lewis Brinson is up to bat. The crowd was kind of quiet and on the broadcast people heard what sounded like a racial slur. Brinson happens to be black. Of course the Rockies issued a statement condemning it and conducted an investigation trying to find out who said it because he is going to find himself banned for life from Coors Field. After they analyze the tape it turned out what the man actually said was “Hey Dinger”. Dinger is the Rockies mascot. https://apple.news/Aga8_l60TT7WyUN1VxkFiYw
  4. Right now I’m sitting on the tailgate of my truck drinking a Gatorade and talking to you fine folks. I’m in Brownsville. Had to come out here and fix an irrigation pump on one of my properties. The 60/40 pressure switch crapped out. Easy fix. One thing I love about small towns. I bought the replacement at this little mom and pop hardware store in Brownsville called Heywoods hardware. Sunny came in with me off leash follow me around the store follow me out not a word was said. Other than “nice doggy what’s her name“. Try that in the city and everybody freaks the hell out. five years ago I would not even have attempted that though. Sunny was very impulsive and inergetic. No way would I trust her off the leash. But she is by any dog standard a senior girl now. That calmed her down much more than any training I could ever do. One cool thing about current circumstances it’s been well over a year since her and I parted company for more than a few minutes.
  5. The notion that soccer is not popular in the US should be considered debunked. It’s not the most popular sport. Probably never will be. But we do have one nationwide high-level professional league that’s doing quite well in terms of revenue and attendance. There are three lower tier leagues one of which USL, is nationwide. It’s playing slightly differently then the folks in Europe might recognize. Promotion and relegation will never be a thing. The lower tier leagues have a mix of independent teams and farm teams for the MLS clubs. The product on the field is pretty decent. The team that wins the MLS championship would be a winning club in any league in the world. The one thing MLS has going for it is compared to the “big four“ The NFL, the NHL, MLB, and NBA, the cost to attend a game is quite a bit less. So it’s not inconceivable in the near future it could be one of the big for bumping one of the others, probably the NHL, out. anyway, what I really came here to say is only 179 days until the Olympics starts again.
  6. Canada has re-opened the border with the US. Tourists are once again welcome. For about 30 days before the whole country freezes solid LOL. Edit: admit it. You’re humming that song right now!
  7. Bobby Bowden Dadgummit!
  8. I’ll tell you one thing though. I was a baby when Watergate happened. I learned about it in school of course but didn’t really care back in those days. It wasn’t until I read Woodward & Bernstein‘s book that I got a real understanding of what happened and I was amazed that a president and an administration could even imagine they could get away with that. That was nothing compared to the picture emerging here. @Gromniryou are clearly more informed about this than I am. So let me ask you something. Hypothetically for a moment consider a scenario where the few people in the right places actually did the wrong thing. How does this play out? Speculate on an alternate history of the month of January if you would please. Because I have to believe even if they did it the country would not meekly acquiesce.
  9. First off let me get this out-of-the-way, I am not all that familiar with everything Georgia did in their election reform. Because it’s Georgia mainly. But some of the things they banned make a lot of sense to ban. Like ballot harvesting for example. having a third-party delivering ballots of other people to a polling place is fraught with potential problems.
  10. Very busy last few days. But the Fall garden is all planted. Now we wait…..
  11. They pulled it together in the end but going into the exhibition games before the Olympics I thought that team was going to be a total s—t show. But good for them. But good for them.
  12. I just saw Bruce Springsteen‘s daughter won a silver in one of the equestrian events. Good for her!
  13. Well it certainly no way to know what every single one of them we’re thinking. But that jack ass with the face paint and the buffalo hat seems to be a pretty good representative of the majority and he seems to think it was all a “protest”. I’m sure they were more than a few provocateur‘s in the crowd who did somehow imagine themselves a kin to Madison, Jefferson, Washington. But I still say the majority of the blame lies on the guy who just moments before whipped them into a frenzy and told him to go do exactly what they did. by the way, I had not heard that bit about the thermometers in the voting machines until you posted it. I’ve just been reading about it. As conspiracy theory goes that one is a beaut. Having spent the majority of my career working in wireless networks I can think of 1000 different reasons why that just makes no sense.
  14. @GromnirAs horrifying as what they tried to do there is no scenario in which it would’ve been successful. Oh sure they could absolutely create a constitutional crisis. But the idea of the election being overturned or Trump being retained as president would require an acquiescence that was just never going to happen. First of all there was no circumstance in which the military was going to involve itself in that kind of a power struggle. None of the joint Chiefs were on his side. Not one. And even if Pence had wanted to refuse to accept the certified state electoral votes he had no legal basis to do so. Any attempt to do so would’ve been smacked down in court. Donald Trump was leaving the White House on January 21 no matter what. There’s nothing he could’ve done that was going to change that. He could’ve walked out with dignity or been dragged out kicking in screaming. What we actually got was much closer to the latter than the former. But you’re right it’s more than disturbing that they even thought they could do this. Or would even consider trying. As far as I know nothing like this has ever even been attempted in United States history. as far as the guys who broke into the capital they’re all going to prison. Everyone of them. What more should we do? Have them all lined up and shot? I don’t think any of them had any idea of overthrowing the government or anything like that. Most of them are buds of yahoos who are duped into doing something stupid by a demagogue. The one who definitely deserves to go to prison is the one who whip them into a frenzy and then sent them over there. that is like firing a bullet from a gun. Whatever your intentions were you’re responsible for everything that bullet hits. so what’s the other message here? That the Republicans are freaking terrible now? Not exactly news to me. The last Republican I voted for not named John McCain was George HW Bush. Can’t imagine I’ll ever support another one either. Of course that doesn’t make the Democrats an acceptable alternative. But that’s an old argument that would serve no purpose of rehashing.
  15. LOL guess that’s why I live alone!
  16. As a replacement for other taxes. This is in addition to. And frankly I could care less who’s idea it is. It sucks.
  17. No argument for me on that count. The idea of losing spatial orientation in the middle of a triple twist dismount from a high bar sounds more than a little scary.
  18. New infrastructure bill float national mileage tax that’s it. I’m getting a horse. In all seriousness I noticed they did not carveout any exception for commercial trucking. So kiddies guess who pays that tax? Please pull your pants down, bend over and prepare to receive the f——-g you so richly deserve every time you buy anything.
  19. Biles won a Bronze on Balance Beam. Glad to see she got something for all the grief she had to take. There are times in life when you need to cowboy up buttercup and perform even when you don’t think you can. Amateur sports is not one of those.
  20. No reason non-US citizens can’t vote yeah I’m gonna be a hard pass on this one. I would be a bit more inclined if we were talking about just legal residence. But that term is already very blurry and it’s going to get even blurrier.
