No, the Kurds wanted north part of Iraq as an autonomous Kurdish state. Turkey Would not tolerate that because of the number of ethnic Kurds in eastern turkey freedom they were afraid down the road and autonomous Curtis homeland with annex part of turkey. Maybe it would have. Maybe not. But the one thing the US could have done is not allowed the Kurds in Syria to be killed by the Turks after pulling out. And we didn’t. Involving ourselves in Syria was a mistake. Yes it was a humanitarian crisis. Yes people are being killed and brutalized by the thousands. There’s nothing we can do about it.

Maybe Gromnir has a point. It was special because it was rare. But there are numerous historic ball parks throughout the land. I think it would go along way to growing the game if the MLB would schedule at least one game in a stadium like that every season. If not always the same one. For example the Pittsburgh Crawford’s Negro league team their home ballpark is still around and hosts the Pennsylvania Little League tournament. It would be cool to see a game played there wearing the Crawford‘s uniforms versus the Kansas City monarchs for example. last year MLB eviscerated minor-league baseball. Over 40 clubs we’re dissolved or became independent and three whole leagues were disbanded. A lot of small towns lost pro baseball probably forever. The game grows when people have access to it. And baseball hasn’t been growing much for a long time. Quite the opposite actually. Staging events like this in historic locations around the country every year might do a bit to help reverse that.

Well in Sunny’s defense I don’t set her up to fail by putting her in a situation to where her friendliness or curiosity would get the better of her. For example I take her to places like Kroger and tractor supply, but we don’t actually go in the store. Curbside pick up has been the greatest shopping innovation since the cash register in my opinion. There are two restaurants in town we are semi-regulars at. Both of them have outside dining. More accurately picnic tables on a wood porch outside these are not fancy places they are mom and pop barbecue and pizza joints. Whether or not she is allowed at the outside picnic tables is kind of a gray area. But I wouldn’t put them in the position to tell me no by taking her inside. Plus they always give her a bowl of water and some grilled chicken. I take her in the post office all the time. But usually I’m only there to get my mail and it’s usually after the office has closed. The little true value hardware store in town I take her in there all the time. All the people who work there know her and call her by name. small-town life is very different than what you have to deal with in Sacramento. People coming up and wanting to pet her it just doesn’t happen. But I would never take her to a busy park or somewhere where kids are likely to be around. I am 100% sure she would be her happy fun-loving friendly self and nothing bad would happen. But it’s also not something I would take a chance on. So I guess it comes down to this. I take her everywhere I go usually off leash, but I won’t go anywhere she might get into trouble.

NYPD arrests woman for walking dogs off leash I take my dog with me literally everywhere I go. I cannot remember the last time I had her on a leash. But she’s calm and she has been well trained. Reading a story like this makes me thank God I live where I do. There was a song from the 80s that went “just send me to hell or New York City it would be about the same to me“.

I hope that becomes an annual event. That was really nice. Plus the actual game play had it all!

The moment the Taliban topples the government and takes over the country every dollar spent there and every life lost there will have been for nothing. Let that be a lesson for a future generations. The time will probably come when it is necessary to go in and kick another country‘s ass. Although that certainly should be a very last resort. But staying there afterwards and trying to turn them into something they cannot be is a fools errand. They should’ve partitioned the damn country and giving it back to the individual clans. I don’t think there has ever been a centralized government that controlled more than the area immediately around Kabul for a long period of time.

Dealing with a bout of insomnia. Watched two hours of Cheers and four of Breaking Bad. I think my brain is scrambled after that TV binge. -

Speaking of COVID hypocrisy. I got quite a chuckle out of some analyst on CNN making a comment about Barack Obama‘s birthday party. First of all just let me put my position in the clear that was a nothing burger. They had a big party, they weren’t wearing masks, they were dancing clothes, who cares. But of course a lot of the news channel is fox in particular were making hay out of it. So CNN was mentioning the fact that he was being made on it and they asked some analyst, newspaper reporter I think, and she made a comment about that that was a “smart and sophisticated crowd“ and they knew what they were doing. I got a good laugh out of that because I cannot imagine a comment more design to infuriate the red state crowd than that one. edit: oh you’re not crazy I’ve changed a couple of times today. Trying to find a GIF of a dog with a bone. One that I like and shows up good.

I’m not so stubborn I won’t adjust my world view if it’s proven wrong. The collective of “they” haven’t given me cause to do so. Although there are always individuals with integrity as you pointed out. They deserve respect. IMO McCain and Manchin and a few others from recent memory. But for most politicians that appears to be the very first quality they compromise. What is it that drives someone to seek political power over there fellow people? I asked Don Garlits that a long time ago. He was a “true believer” in Reagan style conservatism. I’ll give him that. And I do believe even after all these years he was an honest man. But he didn’t know the first thing about Congress, about government, or about any other things that he frequently gave speeches about. His reason for running for Congress was “it looks like it will be a hoot“.

Hypothetically speaking here. Suppose Senator “Smith” was caught in a very unsavory scandal involving sexual harassment. Suppose the governor of Senator Smith’s home state is the opposite party as him. Now suppose that the Senate is divided 50-50. Or 49-51 If Senator Smith were to resign or be expelled from the Senate it would shift the balance of power. Do you think Senator Smith’s party would not be fighting like hell to extend him to the end of his term no matter what he did? That they wouldn’t be trying to make the whole scandal quietly go away? Or all of that aside no matter what they say publicly would they take any action that would see him removed from his seat? I doubt it.
