  1. I'm afraid my knowledge is 30 years out of date now. But the Naval Academy & West Point had the same entry level requirements as OCS and Enlisted Basic Training/Boot Camp. They were not terribly stringent at entry level. The big things were height/weight/BMI. As long as you hit those numbers physical fitness will come on it's own. I can't imagine it's terribly different now. The Air Force was very different in almost every way to the Army, and Navy/Marine Corps. I'm afraid I have no clue about that one. I can't imagine it would be too far off. For the Navy it was 10 push ups, 50 sit ups and a 1.5 mile run in 15 min (I think, not sure on the time but I am sure on the distance) The Marines it was 3 pull ups, 50 sit ups, and a 3 mile run in 27 minutes. The military does an exceptionally good job at turning people of average or below average physical fitness into well above average people. The service academies even more so I'd think.
  2. In a move that is surprising no one Theresa May is stepping down. This Brexit thing is a hot mess. Joining the EU is like buying a timeshare. You don't know how much it's going to cost, you don't know when it's going to end, you have no clear ability to get out of it, if you do try to leave is pisses off everyone else in the ownership pool. Nuts to these kinds of entanglements.
  3. Heard on the SiriusXM POTUS (Politics of the United States) channel this morning that Trump is saying he will not sign any more legislation while investigations are on going. Woo-Hoo! I love when the Potomac rat tribes are trying to f--k each other over. Divided government baby! That is where it's at. I hope and pray we never again see a Congress united under one party, And God knows I ope we never see both Congress AND the Presidency united under one party. That is a nightmare I don't care who you support.
  4. A 69 year old great grandmother who uses CBD oil (a legal marijuana product) to alleviate arthritis pain was arrested at Disney World in Orlando FL. The police put her in jail for 12 hours before charges were dropped. In Florida it is illegal to sell CBD but not have it. The woman lives in North Carolina where there are no restrictions. Although Orange County Sheriff insists the arrest was lawful it was clear they didn't understand what they law actually was. The charges have been dropped and the lawsuits are coming. I hope she cleans them out. https://www.wesh.com/article/lawsuit-over-cbd-arrest-at-disney/27465754
  5. In other news Nevada bacame to latest state to change how it's electors are chosen. All of Nevada's electoral votes will be awarded to the national popular vote winner. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/may/22/nevada-senate-passes-national-popular-vote-bill-pa/?234 If you want to eliminate the electoral college then THIS is how you do it. Not the Tyrant-on-the-Potomac commanding "Thou shalt do this"
  6. I wouldn't accept those either. Especially 2. That is exactly the kind of poison pill that made everyone (except Hillary Clinton) oppose the TPP.
  7. So in other words it's just like the book and the first movie
  8. Hey Calax glad to hear from you again! Good luck on your upcoming interviews. If anyone is past due for a good break it's you.
  9. Continuing to have a Nights Watch after the Wall is breached and the very thing it was supposed to do is no longer needed is like hiring a security guard AFTER the bank burned to the ground. And that isn't even the most nonsensical thing about the way it ended.
  10. A little goes a long way. I usually buy it in 10 oz and that lasts a few weeks.
  11. I bought a new truck. I went with the GMC Sierra 1500. off road & towing package. I have an appointment tomorrow to get the bed coating and cover put on. Jeez it's expensive to buy a vehicle these days
  12. Cheers. The last 6 minutes of the last episode were absolutely masterful IMO. That is how you do it. Law and Order had a nice wrap up. That show was definitely out of gas. I thought the last scene in Star Trek TNG was pretty good even if the last episode itself wasn't. The ending of Miami Vice has grown on my over the years. Now that I'm older and have dealt with futility it makes more sense.
  13. You've been retired less than a month and your reading comprehension skills are slipping. Or I did a poor job of conveying my point. Since this whole thing started with a comment by a Presidential contender I assumed it did not need to be spelled out all subsequent comments were in reference to that. And I did not say anything MUST or CAN NOT be done. What I said was (again referring the the Presidential contender and politics in general) was that is is stupid to antagonize political opposites over something stupid. And it s. I never suggested they can't if they want to. We clear?
  14. There are a lot of people in this country who actually believe the Democrats want to re-write our history, take all of our guns, round up everyone who does not conform to their way of thinking and place them all in concentration FEMA camps for extermination political reeducation. Now obviously this s not the case (for the vast majority at least). But when you start talking about doing things like this it suddenly makes the people who shout these things sound like they are on to something. It makes the whole thing sound a little less crazy. So, IMO the smart thing to do is leave the past where it belongs... in the past. Don't make it an issue. Leave the flags and the stupid f-----g statues alone. If that stuff makes people happy, don't f--k with it. If you are going to pick a fight with people who oppose you politically then pick one you can actually win over something worth fighting over. Whose name is on what building, or scholarship, or event is not worth the aggravation of provoking the other side. Unless of course the provocation IS the point. In which case that is even MORE stupid. If people think you are a monster the worst thing you can do is become one. Or appear to be doing so. BTW Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi & others that goes for you too.
  15. The Micheal Smerconsih podcast from POTUS on SiriusXM radio. And this: https://freebeacon.com/politics/buttigieg-on-renaming-things-named-after-thomas-jefferson-its-the-right-thing-to-do/ Fox seems to have it too. CNN and the others are ignoring it (so far) since it paints a Dem in a possibly unfavorable way. BTW that post has more than a little sarcasm due to the sheer stupidity of the idea, the reasons for it, and the reaction it will provoke once word gets around.
  16. I like sunflower oil for grilling and brazing. It has a high smoke point compared to canola or vegetable oils. For pan cooking and veggies I prefer olive oil.
  17. Pete Buttigeig wants to take Thomas Jefferson's name off everything it's on. Outrage is scheduled for 09:00 today. Details at 11. In other news, like the current occupant of the while house and 90% of the candidates in the race, Pete Buttigeig has no f-----g clue what a president can and can not do.
  18. https://youtu.be/tek0YZE8Gos
  19. never mind
  20. This one has just left me speechless: https://spectator.us/writers-blocked-fantasy-fiction/ Fantasy fiction is now offensive and must be banned!
  21. Most of the mileage I racked up when I was running my own company. I spent a lot of time on the road and driving was just more economical. It hasn't been so bad since. But the big thing I need is towing capacity. And the Sierra is definitely the best at it's price.
  22. Meh, six of one, half dozen of the other, I'm pretty pleased with Goresuch for the most part.
  23. Yeah, not looking forward to that part. $35k over 60 months, probably looking at $600 a month give or take.
