  1. Sent you a PM, Ramza.
  2. Unless they were insane, of course.
  3. Groovy. Thanks so much!
  4. Perhaps I am misreading him, and I desperately hope that I am. But to me it still sounds as if the romance options will be something of an afterthought, if they're included at all, in order to concentrate on the more non-romance character development.
  5. From Chris Avellone in the Questions to the Devs thread: I'm sorry, but I think this is an horrible idea. One of the reasons that KoTOR has been rated the best RPG of all time across all platforms is because of the romances. While I do like the other interactions, and look forward to them, cutting out the romance is simply awful. KoTOR was very inspiring to many, many people, due in large part to the character development that was there when the PC was drawing romantically closer to either Carth or Bastila. Romances are included in just about every piece of classical literature out there, from every genre. There is a universal appeal about them, which is one of the reasons why Baldur's Gate II was such an enormous success as well. The romances are one of the most talked about aspects of the game. The majourity of players love having them in there, and truly appreciate how much they added to the enjoyment of playing KoTOR. I know many, many people are looking forward to the romances in KoTOR 2, and when I asked at E3, I was informed by LA that there would be romances in the story. Looking at it from purely a writer's standpoint, love is the single most powerful and most used device out there. Using Star Wars, the Han/Leia romance aside, the catalyst for most of the movies was love. Luke's love for Obi Wan, Luke's love for his friends, and finally, Luke's love for his father. It's difficult to inspire that kind of devotion in a third person environment like a game without using the romance card. Please, please reconsider the romance option. I truly believe that KoTOR2 will suffer if it is left out, and many, many fans will be disappointed.
  6. Ack! No romances! Yikes. While the rest of the interactions sound great, no romances is a bad, bad idea.
  7. While I don't KNOW if KoTOR 2 will surpass KoTOR, I certainly HOPE it will, and I believe that hope to be pretty well founded, considering who the developers are.
  8. Hmmmm....Found it. Oops. Sorry. Due to the game rankings a couple of weeks after it's release, KoTOR was then rated 4th by game REVIEWS, not sales. It also said that these go up and down like mad, so it's not 4th anymore. My mistake, so sorry!!!! LOL, and now I see the Game Rankings post! 23 isn't bad!
  9. If they're not making a profit off of it or claiming to be the creators of the copyrighted material, they should be fine. I haven't been there yet, so I don't know. As far as Malak goes, I always thought he was supposed to be a poor tactician. That was why he had to wait for outside interference before he was able to defeat Revan, he didn't have the brains to do it himself. Malak was Revan's apprentice due to his sheer power in the Force and their previous relationship. He was not, however, ever mentioned because of his intelligence or cunning, Revan was. To me, Malak was always a kind of a bully who managed to get his hands on the kind of overwhelming power a bully always dreams about. This is why he was ultimately defeated by Revan, light or dark. Revan managed to elude him and his entire force, get back to the Star Forge, and kill him. If the situations had been reversed, Malak would never have been able to outthink Revan.
  10. This has turned into a very interesting read. Agreed on how confusing it is when discussing "The Sith". Is that the race, the combined Jedi/racial culture, or the Dark Jedi religion? Meh. The Sith are all about survival of the fittest, and doing what you think is best to first ensure your own survival, and second to forward your own goals, by any means necessary. (Which is Social Darwinism with a twist, IMHO.) There are a lot of comparisons between the Sith/Galactic Empire and the Third Reich, the utter destruction of those different from they being the most obvious. While the methods may differ, the desired end results were the same; the complete subjugation of everyone and everything that was not them. This is one of the reasons why I respect the Palpatine character so much. It would take someone made of tungsten carbide to be able to keep a political organization based on those creeds from self destructing (as the Third Reich was about to do when they were defeated by the Allies.) He managed to keep such a crushing grip on those beneath him that not only did he actually accomplish what he set out to do, he managed to make it stick for decades.
  11. Hmmm...I don't think so. Could be, but I'm relatively sure he was talking about the Sith, and not the Galactic Empire, as he had input into the EU that created the Sith.
  12. Lucas has said that he did come up with the basic idea for the Sith from the Third Reich.
  13. While that's a very good point, the story doesn't revolve around the non-Jedi character. I'm not saying that's bad, I'm just saying that I think there's definite room in the SW Universe for a non-Jedi lead CRPG.
  14. Really? I heard that Jolee was Juhani's sister's nephew's brother's uncle's dog walker's second cousin twice removed by marriage. Just a rumour, though.
  15. As I recall, Halo was the 2nd... *digs into Google to refresh memory*
  16. Yuthura Ban. While I realize she too has the possibility of a death in KoTOR, I loved the character and would really like to have additional development for her in the second one. I want Griff back with a proper "Torture" option this time round. I'm also curious about the Outcasts, although as a minour sidequest in 1, they probably won't be in 2 at all. Having Dustil make an appearance I think would be awesome. It could so easily go light or dark with him, which fits in perfectly with the fact that you can alter your NPC's alignments. Will you try and help him forgive his father, or will you continue to fuel his feelings of betrayal and hate? No romance option, though, if you please, that would be creepy. Ick.
  17. Well, from the demo, they certainly hinted strongly that you will be involved with more Sith artifact type stuff, as there was a Sith Temple a bunch of Sith were trying to get into. Also, it's been said that there is a Sith Temple in the game itself, as well. I also liked Korriban. The entire feel of the area was very well done. It was great actually SEEING everything, rather than just reading about it. Books are great, don't get me wrong, but as the cliche goes, a picture speaks a bunch of words.
  18. LOL, I use the alacrity ones constantly until I get Knight Speed.
  19. PC games generally sell more than X-Box, I think I remember reading somewhere, due to the fact that more than one type of PC can play that platform, whereas there's only one X-Box. Ah well. It's been rated as the 4th best selling console game ever released.
  20. Let's see... Here's Awards... http://www.bioware.com/games/knights_old_republic/awards/ The only sales information I can find is from last year, though. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/4677/Star-Wa...ks-Record-Sales
  21. Hey there, guys. The issue is being dealt with, not only on the boards but via legal action, so it's okay. Let's not start a war on the Obsidian boards, the imposter caused enough spam for them, I think.
  22. Never thought of that, it sure does, doesn't it.
  23. I don't know, there are several non-Jedi characters who play key roles in majour events, like Han Solo, Boba Fett, Jar-Jar... *ducks* Okay, seriously. I think a CRPG dealing with non-Jedi could be done, and done well. You are a non-Jedi who stumbles across a threat along the lines of the Trade Federation allying itself with Siddious. The proper authorities (i.e. the Jedi Council) refuse to believe in the threat, so you're on your own to try and stop it. *shrug* Not the best of ideas, and rather cliched, but it could be evolved into something decent. You'd have the option from a variety of non-Jedi classes to choose from, but wouldn't necessarily be going head to head with Force adepts. Ah well, like I said, just an example.
  24. In the demo there were certain areas with crackling, violet-blue, tangible Dark Force that you could target like a lootable item. When you'd first step into the room, you'd get a message stating that you can feel the incredible power of the Dark Side in that place. When you targeted the pocket, you had several options from trying to ignore it to basking in it, according to your alignment. You even get the option to cleanse the area of it. However, in the demo, even with the tweaked character, I couldn't do it. All I managed to do was get craploads of DSP. Any ideas on what these pockets might be for? I found them very intriguing, but have no clue on how they could be used in the game. Do you think there will be similar Light Side pockets? It will be verra disappointing if they're only good for tons of DSP or LSP.
