Yes, something along the lines of romance doesn't ALWAYS have to be so tragic, although if they don't include something tragic, I'll be upset. But one or two just nice, humourous, if ill-fated romances would not be a bad thing. Not all romances must be ripped from a Jane Austen novel.

Another unfortunate example of too many good ideas, not enough time or space for them. It was fully intended for each romance line to have some affect on the overall outcome, but the closest they were able to come to this was the DSF romance ending, and they didn't get to include all the options they wanted for that, either. Ack! Hi Darth Shad! Sorry I didn't say hi sooner!

How about a "sith lords Wednesday"
Adria Teksuni replied to poolofpoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, they had one yesterday. Just not for those who didn't go to E3. -
Excellent question. Something that DOESN'T deal with betrayal at some point or another would be nice. Something perhaps to do with a power struggle, or even as petty as jealousy would be nice. Someone who isn't angsty would be great. I'm thinking a nice Han Solo-type romance. Neither Leia nor Han were the angsty type, but they still had a marvellous romance. Whereas Padme and Anakin are BOTH full of pathos, so I want to just kick them both in the butt. They covered the Moonlighting type of romance with Carth, but perhaps didn't inject as much humour into the character of Carth himself to make it appealing enough to a lot of people. The trust issues and why he had them was a nice change, but he did come on rather strongly. Bastila just never seemed to warm up enough. A few other ideas: 1. The love interest is involved with, or even married to, someone else. 2. The love interest is resentful of the role the PC has to play in upcoming events, the PC's power, or both. 3. The love interest knows that they only have a limited amount of time with the PC, for whatever reason, but the PC doesn't find out about it until it's too late. Further storyline options include trying to get the love interest back or just washing their hands of the whole mess. 4. The love interest falls in love with the PC early on, but the PC doesn't figure it out until later on in the game (anyone see Some Kind of Wonderful?) 5. The standard "we come from two different worlds" storyline. 6. For a lightsider, a reformed Sith. For a darksider, seducing a Lightsider. One of the things that they NEVER touched on in KoTOR, that I'm trying to develop for myself in my fic, is the "love is bad" idealism of the Jedi Council. That has such GREAT potential for all sorts of disastrous romance, and they didn't have the chance to expound on it. Ah well, I guess I've rambled aimlessly enough for now.

Well, it will be included, now it's just a question of to what depth. And I didn't say I hated the whole movie Titanic, I just talked about my favourite scene.

Yeah, I don't think they'll give in to the "Full disclosure" demand... Dammit. -
Agreed with both of Marie's points.
-
LOL While I admit that I, too, am an incurable romantic, I must say that my favourite scene in Titanic is Leo heading for the ocean floor like there was a lead weight chained to his ankles...Sorry!

Not that you're biased or anything.

Yup, it is based on the d20 system, and in the pnp the Prestige Classes are available to add greater diversity and customization to a character (in all the WoTC d20 systems that utilize the "AD&D rules") for players who want to keep playing their character in power games, but dont' necessarily want to turn them into gods. Unfortunately, as Drakon stated, a lot of people abuse it simply to get that insanely-uber character, which is the fault of the GM in pnp games, IMHO. Hopefully, Obsidian will remember the first rule of gaming; "There is always something bigger and badder than you."

All I know is that LA refused to say ANYTHING about the level cap. Sheesh.

*very faint bell rings* I am vaguely recalling something to that effect...

While I think Ep I, overall, sucked, I do love the scene where Maul is walking into the hanger using the Force to toss things about. Get chills everytime I see it. That was damned cool and I'd love to have a similar opportunity in KoTOR II.

I know that in the demo they had the hoods incorporated into the robes, which did look much better, looser and freer than in KoTOR. But in some of the screenshots, there is an exact duplicate of the Lightside Star Forge robes, so it's looking like there may be both. The hoods, btw, were not up over the head, but simply hanging down the back. I know this would be a bitch to program, but the addition of being able to pull up the hood of your robes would be a nice addition.

I agree with the severe lack of diversity in the Jedi classes. Whoever said "A Jedi is a Jedi is a Jedi" hit the nail on the head. When it came to straight stats, there just wasn't enough of a difference. Hopefully, choosing a Prestige class will give you more of a sense of individuality in your character. We shall see. Not that I didn't have fun as a Jedi, I did, and still do.

Both, as I'll have a new PC by that time that won't cry everytime I think about playing the game. Right now all it lets me do, sometimes, is access the dialogue.tlk files. *sigh* But I do like the X-Box version for kicking back and playing in my recliner.
-
Actually, that's kinda' cool...

Ack, yup, I mistyped. Too much crap going on over here. Yes, there WILL be romances in the game, WOOHOO! But...(who didn't see this coming?) The Chris post still makes it sound like the romances are not given much thought, and if they're going to be an afterthought, I'd rather they just be left out to make way for the better in-depth non-romance interactions. Ah well.
-
Agreed. Sometimes it is nice to have an enemy that you can't defeat by simple combat. As far as it being a puzzle based enemy *shrug*. I'll take anything at this point.
-
No, can't pick them up and carry them around, just stand on them with the options mentioned in my first post. I have no idea if they'll be simple LS/DS point generators, or power ups, or indicators of strong Force presence, or what. Hopefully they'll have SOMETHING to them besides any or all of the things I mentioned, as they were quite intriguing.

What would u like to see in KotOR 2
Adria Teksuni replied to Darth Sun_Tzu's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Voted for more force power usage in dialogue. There were many, many times I wanted to Force Choke someone but alas, the option was not available. -
As stated before, the reason for my fears about the romances, is that the response by Chris was to a question asking if there were going to be romances in the story. Instead of saying, "Yes, and we're also doing this" we got the response quoted. To me it says that either there will be no romances in the story, or the romances will be an afterthought, not fully developed and just as boring, banal, and bland as people claim KoTORs were, or worse. I would LOVE to be wrong on this, trust me. I'm not sure why people are saying Bastila's romance was shallow. I keep seeing the comments, but I'm not seeing any reasons for the statements. Bastila's character was incredibly complex, she was SUPPOSED to be a bitch, not just a strong female character type. The fact as to why she was a bitch was because of all the internal conflicts she was suffering from. The interactions were the vehicle the PC was able to use to find out those reasons. Same thing with Carth. He was mistrustful and plaintive because of his past. Of course, such character delving is not for everyone, not everyone is interested in such things, but as said before, I simply don't understand the claims of the shallow character designs. I have no intentions of starting a Carth worship thread on this board, I didn't start them on the Bioware boards. Besides which, the overwhelming negativity here would prevent any liking of Carth to happen anyway. I, for one, thought the romances were well done, the teasing flirtation quite humourous and intriguing. Most romances in VGs today revolve around very straightforward cause and effect, and if you attempt to insult the love interest in any manner, the romance is blown. Instead of saying "Here's your lover, go get 'em" Bioware chose to take a different route, and prolong the tension throughout the game. Formula? Well...yeah. But they're called formulas because they work. There are very, very few CRPGs out there today with a romance storyline at all, and even fewer other genre type games with one that isn't "Boy meets girl, girl gets killed/kidnapped/turns out to be a traitor, boy must avenge/rescue/find out why. As far as greater non-romantic interactions, I am ALL for it. ANY kind of in-depth character development is a great thing, and integral to good role playing, computer or otherwise. I am very glad that Obsidian is choosing to concentrate on this aspect of KoTOR2, but I am afraid that they'll do it at the expense of the romance options, perhaps even falling back on the tired boy meets girl cliches mentioned above. Of course there were items in the KoTOR romances that needed serious work, it's a game, and as a game they are limited to the amount of overall content they want to put in. A dark side female romance ending had to get cut, as did a lot of light side male romance dialogue. As such at times it was difficult to see why, exactly, ANYONE would choose to fall in love with either Bastila or Carth. Who wants to be a lover's psychiatrist all the time? Still, aside from PS:T and maybe the male romances of BG:II, KoTOR has the best romances in a CRPG I've seen to date. As far as the fanfic and fanart goes. *shrug* Every popular media form has it, KoTOR is no different. If it bothers someone so much, then they shouldn't read it or view it. Then it can stay in its own little corner of cyberspace and not aggravate anyone. In other words, if you don't like it, change the channel. Anyway, sorry for the hideously long post...

Please, well-written dialogue be in!
Adria Teksuni replied to deadreak's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I would be very surprised if there isn't a good storyline in the game, considering who is behind it. There may be aspects released that I'm not crazy about, but I'm confident that it will be well presented and immersive. *shrug* If another company besides Obsidian were doing it, I'd have severe doubts, but considering their employees past works (namely PS:T) I'm not too worried about it. -
I posted this on another board, but I'll put it here as well. Part of the reason for my fears is that the response I quoted was a reply to whether or not there would be romances in KoTOR2. Instead of a"Yes, and here's what else we're doing" we got this instead. As I said before, I do hope I'm wrong on this.

I must admit, I'm waiting for a Darth Master Chief or Darth Spartan to show up...
