  1. Pro tip: From someone who only plays potd, if you really think reflex is better than fortitude or will AND if you really think having average stats overall is better than maximizing on the most valuable ones for a tank(deflection, fortitude, will) then you should really stop using console on your "potd" runs. I have stated carefully on my last post but you were busy trolling it seems: The really nasty stuff(like many afflictions paralyze/petrify or dominate) target fortitude/will while persistent damage targets deflection most of time and by maxing those yes you guessed it you become a ... tank. Would it be even better if we could max reflex as well? Yes it would and guess what maxing all stats at 18 would have been even better! In an actual game however you have two options either go average stats overall or min/max. While average stats might be ok vs all creatures in easy/hard in potd is a different story. It's really easy to grasp the concept just google simplex algorithm/linear programming it's all there for the past 100 years. As for the breath attacks from dragon that target reflex, with faith and conviction + scroll of defense reflex is more than enough to cause a graze add in there moon goodlike with max strength and you are at 100% hp right after the dragon wasted his breath. Yes that's right that's why might is maximized in that build 1) better fortitude 2) better healing from racial + lay on hands + chain healing 3) better damage on sacred immolation. If you really like roleplaying then sure go with 12 might, 13 con, 12 dex, 13 perception, maybe 15 resolve, 12 intellect you could carry a 2hander as main weapon I'm sure it will do wonders in potd or TC solo for what matters. Then again after a while the difficulty even of most hard encounters drops dramatically due to meta gaming. Again I have already taken the time to actually answer to the obvious question in my first post before those were even being asked. But people are busy trolling and flaming based on fallacies instead. Therefore I will just repeat by quoting myself and for the really lazy ones and trolly ones and flaming ones I have already highlighted the important parts so it's as easy as kindergarten. gl hf!!! I appreciate the words and advice I believe it is solid. Raven is a good dude I think just when people type things get taken differently then they are meant. I am going to take your advice while at the same time not being so "min/maxed" as I RP a bit. I did a successful PARTY (not solo If I ever solo it will be min/max I just don't like solo for RP reasons). PoTD/ToI run with a 12 Might, 14 Con, 16 Int and 16 Res with the rest being 10. He was good defensively and support wise but did not have good accuracy against high defense mobs like ghosts (cant have everything as you said). I will say that with Flames of Devotion and some accuracy buffs he WAS good at alpha striking and scoring kills. He actually had the second largest single damage hit of the party which was an FoD with the Firebrand Gloves. It was a 110+ hit. Also he would consistently hit for 70+ with FoD which isn't bad at all. He also annihilated the alpine Dragon as it is weak to fire. After I cced him even my defensive Paladin was able to score big hits. I do agree with your assessment that a Paladin should just toss in the towel when it comes to dps but it doesn't mean he cant Alpha strike to score kills and still his main job which is to play offensive line for your back line and support the group. This is what I came up with. Might 12 Con 15 Dex 10 Per 10 Int 14 Res 18 I could also drop 2 Dex (not to min maxy and take another 2 Might for a bit more damage/healing and more Fort which is my second most important defense).
  2. Ya really the only two candidates are the White and Deadfire like you said.
  3. This is just a very small issue, but I noticed that the latest patch 2.3 changed all of the red "mechanics" text to grey. Anyone else have something similar?
  4. This is my only worry but I got half way through a game of TC once (restarted cause I didn't like the build) with a goldpact knight and I was 2 of 2 for stoic and rational. I think if you play a wayfarer or a bleak walker it's easy.
  5. I don't think I ever laughed so hard at a post. Sweet build too. I've been taking more CON since 2.0 I see you have 10. Do you think it's not necessary for a Paladin?
  6. Cant agree with you. The story I thought it was freakin great. Love the world they built and I can play a Paladin in like 4 different ways and that's just one class. I think the depth is there. The world is great and the myth of the Engwithyns was awesome. that's just my opine obviously. Yes the Stronghold needs work no doubt. Though I really like the Endless Paths. A dungeon that has been under ground for centuries will accumulate stuff. For instance if you read the Cyclopedia it tells you that Blobs grow in dark dank places that are not cleaned and are dark. It makes sense that a dungeon would have these...etc I liked it.
  7. I understand that there is very little lore about the other parts of Eora but we know that MOST Pale Elves will proably have a background from The White that Wends. I understand that a Pale Elf could be from Aedyr just like someone with Peruvian heritage could be born in Russia. It is just much less likely. I will be rolling a Pale Elf a new play through.. other then the White what are some other likely backgrounds considering Pale Elfs do not migrate often...I was thinking Deadfire Archipelago and The Living Lands. Both are areas that according to the lore are relatively lawless and many explorers regardless of race have gone to in order to colonize/ make a new living. thoughts? Thanks guys!
  8. Ya seems like that will be the route. Dump dex to 7 and get it to 10 with an enchantment and as much as I hate it I will leave int at 10. Support abilities will be good enough and a melee heavy party will def be in range of my aura. Boots of Zealous command will help. High INT is for a more support based Paladin like my original ToI/PoTD winner. If I want to be more martial INT will have to be base. Cant have both. I just hated those Spirit fights on harder parts of the Endless Paths and Durgans Battery and being subpar cause my ACC was not good enough. I got through it obviously as I beat the game and against dragons and normal enemies that I could engage it was a great build. A bit more martial this time!
  9. Really I think that the game has surpassed at least for me almost every major RPG in the market and those are backed with money from publishers etc. I think they made a better RPG then Bioware. Its better then any of Dragon Age games and unlike a lot of people here I was a fan of all of them and like the setting. Its also better then Mass Effect and I loved those too. And this was started as a kick starter! I think they exceeded expectations by MILES. Its a great game. I am currently Playing Fallout 4 and I like it too but I am itching for WM Part 2 and another play through lol. That's imho.
  10. Yeah shame on you obsidian for taking away the 500+ hours of my life that I have spent playing pillars. You all deserve to be hanged in the gallows of raedrics keep. Dude could not agree more lmao. I have been playing since release and can say its my second favorite game of all time after KotOR. Has there been bugs absolutely. But you can play EVERY class to its full potential and I personally after 500 + hours have not encountered game breaking bugs. That's me personally. That's what counts for me. Every class is viable and can kick ass, its stable and doesn't crash (for me) and I personally LOVE the setting. Late medieval/Early Renaissance in a completely new world not a used up one with some classic Tolkien races like Dwarfs and Elves. Also some new cool and unique ones like Godlike and Amaeu (I never spell it right).
  11. It's a matter of choice - personally I prefer to swing a little slower and to be stunned/knocked down less often. When a phantom or a xaurip starts chaining stuns you won't be able to swing at all... Agree with both of ya.
  12. I guess I could dump DEX a little bit? I am not completely opposed to dumping a stat as long as its not something ridiculous like 3 no offense Raven I know its sometimes necessary in a Solo run. Still Int and Might or pretty low so LoH is going to be mediocre...maybe that's OK? It still pretty strong with a 10 INT. hell Paladins dump the hell out of Int on Solo runs and the LoH is still enough but I am not soloing so better aura size is good...once again I am going heavy melee so I don't need huge INT...ok I am talking to myself at this point you guys let me know lol
  13. Agreed but from my last successful ToI.PoTD I felt that 10 PER was enough if I would have augmented my ACC differently..Also since I am not solo I have team to help me with it....So what are you guys suggesting increase PER? Cause yes like I said I would have liked to some more ACC that was my only gripe with the build. I don't dump stats when I am not soloing so what to do....something like? A lot of people say that with a group a Paladin really doesn't need the Per. what do you guys think. Going for a Pale elf in my Triple Crown Playthrough (first time I ever play an elf ever but Pale Elfs look cool and have bad ass racials). Thing with this build is that my Might and Int aren't very high so my LoH and Exhortations (only going to take reviving in this build) are crappy. If I go single Handed and take a weapon focus I can still get a high ACC with a 10 PER. Opinions? Also since I am not playing a Coastal Amaeu this time my FORT will be meh as well. Lastly, since Paladins have a high natural resolve I could dump it more to like 13 but man playing a low Resolve Paladin is weird..its like THE stat when I think Paladin but I guess we aren't talking RP here. Although its a good stat for Will defense and Dialogue. Might 12 Con 14 Dex 10 Per 15 Int 12 Res 15
  14. Party not solo. Funny that Obsidian doesn't have it as a recommended stat lol
  15. Ya I meant single hander just for times I want to alpha strike bad guys with FoD more ACC to guarantee good damage. Most of the time he will be a shield wearer. I like the spread of your stats. The 2 PER I am not sure about as its just +2 ACC but its not a make or break anywhere else with those 2 points anyway. Did you find it hard to get the correct dialogue options an expert mode? I am sure some orders are easier then others. Thing is all of those priest buffs are AWESOME but they are per encounter other then blessing and you have to wait until level 9. Also ZF gets you the hit to graze and it a pre buff before a battle starts so those first alpha strike ranged shots will have the + 6 ACC and hit to graze. You could also say the same for ZE expect armor of faith doesn't have the hit to graze and cant be casted before combat. You could take Zealous Charge if you have a priest. I am a big fan but still I don't think the priest buffs completely replace Paladin auras.
  16. So you are saying since the game doesn't have the option just roll my own stats on go with what I get? That would be fun lol
  17. What does your usual initial attribute set up look like on your Paladins? My first successful PoTD/Trial of Iron run was with a Kind Wayfarer who was pretty much a support paladin with 2 exhortations and LoH. He only had 12 Might and a 14 Con but the damage was decent just cause FoD hits hard as long as it lands..My complaint about him was that in fights with enemies that you cannot really engage effectively (IE teleporting ghosts in Durgans Battery etc) his accuracy was not high enough against hard to hit ghosts and I felt that he was not as effective in these fights as all he could really do was toss support abilities in turn only doing half of his job (the other being holding the line). With a 2hander his accuracy was obviously average even with ZF. So for my next build I don't think more might does much (well some you get more Fort) as I was fine with his damage. I need more accuracy for those fights. I was thinking go Duelist for the +12 with high damage one handers like sabers. I just cant seem to put points into PER at character creation and leave it at 10. I think Paladins in PoE suffer the same issue that Paladins have in Baldurs Gate and that is a large stat spread as they can really use every stat.
  18. Maybe it was this but afterwards I stopped tyring to FoD and still was not getting any disengagement attacks while chasing. How about this? If you notice after the momentary disappearance of the engagement line or whatnot, you have to land a melee hit to get the engagement line to appear again. That might be the reason why it is difficult to get disengagement attacks while chasing. For recent playthroughs, I play with melee heavy or all-melee parties and this observation becomes even more obvious for me. The converse is true as well. Sometimes I can get a melee character to run circles around another melee enemy (who is obviously focused on the character who is running around) and you won't trigger disengagement attacks. Btw the running circles isn't intentional... blame it on bad pathing Edit: Btw for the converse scenario, take the "sometimes" very literally and with a grain of salt. Enemies on the whole are quite decent at shutting down characters they are chasing. And enemies, especially teleporting ones, can break the enagagement screnario in which they need to land a hit first. Shadows, for example, can insta engage with your character immediately after teleporting and cause disengagement attacks. I might even say that disengagement system is asymmetrically applied between the character party and AI. I think we have found the reason lol
  19. Maybe it was this but afterwards I stopped tyring to FoD and still was not getting any disengagement attacks while chasing.
  20. I appreciate the help guys. I hope I am not sounding ****y/smug when saying I understand status effects and abilities that negate disengagement attacks. ive put about 700 hours into the game according to steam. The disengagement attack while this guy is actively running away from me is not firing off. I am not CCed at all my guy is literally chasing the dude and stutter stepping because hes trying to melee but the guy is running away and no disengagement attacks are firing off.
  21. Ya maybe I was hitting Flames of Devotion or something? So If I activate a MELEE ability I will lose engagement?
  22. Could not agree more. PoE is my second favorite game of all time. Congratulations guys this is well deserved.
