  1. Congratulations/Commiserations, Darque. I'd wish you luck, but I gather you may not have time to read this after the 100 PMs a day you have to trawl through. I imagine modhood to be something like six months community service dredging a canal.
  2. If two teams are tied for the all-important second place, it's decided on goal difference. I don't know what happens if goal difference is also tied, though I'm sure someone could tell you. I don't know know who to cheer for in this game. Ghana have played really bravely and well, I think, and it would be nice to see an African team make it into the next round. On the other hand, I'd like to see the US get a little more interested in the world's favourite sport, and have a bit more in common with the rest of us. That's more likely to happen if their team is doing well.
  3. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), the Germany 0-1 England (Golden Goal) doesn't seem likely, as England usually fade as the match goes on. Anything's possible of course, and at least if England do win I'm out of the country and won't have to endure it.
  4. Well, that was no great surprise. The Saudis love their football, but they can't seem to get a decent team or performance together. Still, maybe they'll beat Spain, eh?
  5. Strangely, I didn't cry at my grandmother's funeral, even though a lot of my family around me were crying. I guess I felt too stressed out with the arrangements and getting everything to pass off smoothly. I still haven't cried over her death though, and it's a couple of years now. I feel I ought to, but the tears don't come. I do cry at movies sometimes, or music if I'm really paying attention to it and it's not just on in the background. I cried watching Crash when - I actually started crying in the moments leading up to it, because I was so afraid of what would happen to the characters.
  6. I think the hairlessness just makes it funnier. They still wouldn't be the ugliest things kept as pets.
  7. Saudi Arabia was held to a draw in stoppage time. Part of me was relieved, though. If Saudi Arabia had won, the streets would have been full of people driving around at crazy speeds celebrating the victory and crashing into things.
  8. Evening prayer times in Jeddah are currently 19:07 and 20:37 as calculated by the Umm Al-Qura method. During prayer, supermarkets close their checkouts and main doors, though if you're already inside you're allowed to remain and continue shopping.
  9. Looks like progress is being made - good work, guys. One thing I'm curious about - for months now I've checked in to the website and look at the progress reports, and I've noticed that one module, 'Confrontations, Kreia conversation adjustment, Final cutscenes', remains stuck resolutely at zero. It's interesting, because the discovery of cut material relating to this was such a big part of the initial furore over the game's truncated ending. Is it proving particularly difficult to piece this part together?
  10. In past world cups, it's always seemed that the US had a surprisingly good team, despite it not being a huge sport in the way that baseball, ice hockey or basketball are. If I were in the UK now, I would no doubt be watching interminable news stories from the US claiming that no-one knows the 'Soccer' World Cup is happening, and no-one cares. I suppose there are plenty of people who do follow the US team, right?
  11. :'( That sucks. Australia deserve the win, though. Japan is effectively out, now - unless Brazil have brought their D team.
  12. Japan scored!!! (w00t)
  13. Nothing like a grudge match between a former colony and the former coloniser. Alas, this one doesn't seem to be televised here.
  14. :D The ghost house is really impressive - that was the moment I decided I was going to like this game a lot. And I did. I hope Oblivion offers up something similar soon. As others have said, there's a fall in quality towards the end, but nearer the end than a lot of games (Kotor 2 springs to mind). There's a whole lot of good stuff before that.
  15. Baley fakes his own edits? Wow. That's pointless, even for here.
  16. I'm really liking Firefox - I only switched a few weeks ago. Crash-free browsing for the first time since, well, ever . It will take a lot for Microsoft to tempt me back to IE, whatever the version, and I don't care if my computer tells that to Microsoft every day of the week.
  17. How did Llyranor manage to edit Baley's post?
  18. I vote for the second, as its poor grammar is much more in keeping with the traditions of badly-translated anime.
  19. Apparently not, though he watched me ride it away, so you'd think he would have said something.
  20. I suppose there'll be a Star Wars TV series, if Mr. Lucas is willing to relinquish control over the writing. The success of Battlestar Galactica and others only makes it more likely. Boxy needs to stay away, and his little dog, too.
  21. I just got falsely accused of horse-stealing. The monk guy said I could take a horse, but the woman in the next town decided that it was stolen . So I loaded a saved game and ran instead. Oblivion is much greener than Morrowind (grass for the horses, I guess). However, Morrowind looked prettier on my old GeForce FX5200 than Oblivion does on my 6600GT. It's really struggling with the grass, which only appears within a very small radius, and anything off in the distance looks like green mush.
  22. I imagine he'll go back to his Texas ranch and laugh and laugh. Or lectures at military academies, perhaps? I hear he only gives speeches to military audiences now, because they're not allowed to boo him.
  23. No, but you thought about it. I choose to feel threatened. Sounds like the policy suits the customer and the management and does not respect the employees at all. I feel for you.
  24. Yes, and if you're lucky maybe the employees won't be thinking about stabbing you. Best to take a really thick book you can read for hours and which doubles as a shield.
  25. I found it really hard to get into at first too. No. Click the middle mouse button/wheel and it toggles between first and third. I've found that I sometimes need to switch back to first-person view to target something from a distance, but it still feels like a third-person game. Seems to be, so far. I'm having a hard time getting into this one as well. Someone a little further into the game could probably tell you more.
