I told you so (yet again)
Some of those may be people who are registering displeasure over the firing of Jeff Gerstmann, rather than genuine comments on the game. So, what are we left with here? Is Eidos off the hook? It may be, but that doesn't mean Gamespot is. If I had to choose, I'd probably say that this was an attempt by Gamespot's moneymen to gain control over the editorial department by making people fear for their jobs - a random executions type thing. If so, I imagine there'll be more 'leaks' and probably resignations in the near future. If not, perhaps a different 'truth' will emerge...

Games you are looking forward to
That's very unlikely, since Wizards of the Coast (the owners of D&D) no longer make much stuff for the Planescape setting and will be busy promoting their 4th. Edition rules soon. However, if you like the Planescape setting, Rogue Dao Studios is producing a series of mods for Neverwinter Nights 2 called The Planescape Trilogy. A lot of people seem to be looking forward to that.

US shoppers killed in gun rampage
Famous for fifteen minutes. Another modern day Herostratus, like we need any more. It happened in a mall, so I blame shopping and consumer capitalism.

torment and BG2 questions
Illithids aren't a najor problem, so long as you have a cleric along who can cast the protection spell (I forget its name). You do still need to save before, because it's not 100% reliable, but it gets me through most battles undevoured.

torment and BG2 questions
Could really do with a proper bard script - i.e. sing your song (it's what you're there for, after all ), and generally stay out of everyone's way.

torment and BG2 questions
Okay, o bard-loving person, answer me this: how can I persuade my BG2 bard to hang around in the back during combat, sing his bardsong and stop attacking things that can kill him with a single blow? Preferably without too much micromanagement.

New comp new problems
Problem solved then?

The Worst Game Endings
It involved a , and it was famously unpopular (this was referenced in later games, I think). I thought it was pretty funny myself.

need sound help
Glad the problem was solved.

Movies you have seen lately
The first Bourne film was only interesting because of the relationship between Bourne and the young woman he meets up with. *spoiler for the second Bourne film* Similarly, the first Shrek film was made by people who loved what they were doing and put that love into every little detail of every frame of the film. The second Shrek fillm was made by people who thought they had a winning franchise and no longer had to try so hard. I haven't seen the third.

What you did today, part gazillion
Congrats.

Women in Iran
The idea that women have no value in society and nothing to contribute other than as homemakers, wives and mothers is hardly restricted to Iran, or to the Muslim world.

torment and BG2 questions
We already have a Planescape: Torment thread here, and it's generally better to avoid duplication where possible, so please keep discussion and bug-solving for Torment on that thread. If anyone has an answer to the BG2 question, that can go here. And thus there is order in the universe and balance is preserved.

Planescape: Torment
It's highly unlikely to be SP2 that's causing the problem by itself. There are, however, many sites out there populated by folks whose knowledge of Planescape's engine is frightening. Try a google search.

Pictures of your games
I've created a spoiler edition of this thread in the C&C spoilers forum. Pictures that are serious game-ruining spoilers should be posted there instead.

Women in Iran
That is very fiercely disputed.

Ah, nostalgia!
Is that what the old Black Isle boards looked like then? Before my time, of course. I particularly like the alternating black and blue backgrounds that give you a headache as you scroll down.

What is with the new forum lay out?
So what happened was, there were people misusing the edit function, posting flaming remarks to bait others, then editing those remarks out. That's the reason the policy was changed.
-
What is with the new forum lay out?
I wasn't a mod at the time when the change was made, so I don't know what discussions took place or what the reasons were for the final decision. I shall enquire, and get back to you.

What is with the new forum lay out?
I thought it was 60 minutes.

What is with the new forum lay out?
When you're looking at a thread, go to Options on the upper-right (under 'New Topic'), and choose 'Switch to Standard' from the display section.

Years of gaming
It's not the same company, though a number of the senior people at Obsidian did work at Black Isle at one time. Games are increasingly influenced by Hollywood and movies, and thus by the maxim of show, don't tell. Verbose games are few and far between, but quality dialogue and storytelling can still be found, as others have mentioned. If dramatic and memorable storylines and well-written, well-acted dialogue are of greater interest than multiple solutions to problems, try point and click adventures instead of RPGs. The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, for example.

Blizzard and Activision to become dreaded mega-studio
More than sufficient, I think.

NPC Banter
You benefit from taking each NPC around the area where you first meet them (if available). For example, as soon as you meet Bao-Dur, keep him and ditch either Atton or Kreia. Other than that, I guess Kreia usually has a lot to say, but it's generally rather random and never really concerned me, because I was always planning to play several times through and knew I'd encounter most of the dialogue at some point or other.

Game ending
We don't know. I suppose a sequel, if there is one, might reveal that, but then again, I doubt any sequel would dwell too closely on the characters of Kotor2. They'd either revisit Revan, or do something entirely new.
