  1. I finally watched Return of the Sith a few days ago. Oh well. It was better than episodes 1 and 2.
  2. You mean night or NewsCorp?
  3. I once heard someone on FoxNews say words to the effect that global warming couldn't be true because it was really cold outside. Catholics in Spain pray for rain all the time (with little success, it must be said). Try praying for snow. Treat it as an experiment. You might even get government funding.
  4. Time for another Iraq thread?
  5. "If you're not with us, you're against us."
  6. I reserve the word 'spurious' for claims with absolutely no merit that a reasonable person could find. That's not so for the hot coffee thing. She had a case. Whether she should have won or not is a different issue.
  7. Until the courts start upholding some of these bizarre claims, we're still amateurs compared to the US. Plus, not all the so-called 'spurious' claims reported from the US are unreasonable once you take a proper look at them, the spilt hot coffee woman being a case in point.
  8. I don't even do that any more. If (and it's a big if) something exciting does appear, could you let us know?
  9. Fun adventure! Sick, but fun.
  10. a - Pull out you weapons and run in guns-a-blazin'. (You just want the answer, or shall I make the next question?)
  11. You're asking me? I was at a friend's house watching DVDs of The West Wing (he got a six-series box set for Christmas). Fun, but exhausting for fourteen hours straight. I just asked him if that counts as having a life, and he says no.
  12. You can turn them to LS in the sense that their character sheets show them to be so, but if it makes any difference in their dialogue or behaviour, I never found it.
  13. I think it takes more than that.
  14. When cheese extract and tomato flavouring are on a processed bagel-like biscuit, You can eat cheese extract and tomato flavouring anytime. For pizza, I hope. Not for this other thing that pixies likes.
  15. By the time it's been processed and reduced to bite-sized portions, then preserved and packaged as a snack, essence of pizza may indeed be all that remains. Bagels have a bread-like quality, and I concede that a bakery might produce a 'bagel pizza' worthy of that description, though I don't know that the product displayed above would qualify.
  16. Cheese and tomato sauce on a non-bagel base, and certainly not something that comes in a bag of bite-size portions. You cannot just put cheese and tomato sauce on any random passing object and say it's a pizza.
  17. Pizza on a bagel isn't pizza, it's just cheese (or cheese substitute) and tomato (or tomato substitute) sauce. Increasingly I'm encountering pizzas with a kind of horrible cheesy goo in the rim of the base. What's up with that?
  18. I think it would be scarier for the spider. You could take this experience as a symbolic cocoon, a chance for you to emerge reborn and renewed, make substantial changes in your life, keep those New Year Resolutions this time. Or perhaps there's a religion that would accept it as a miracle? Do any of the patterns of spiderweb look at all like the face of Jesus?
  19. Arcanum was as good or better if you switched it to turn-based. ToEE offered so many options it felt too cumbersome and slow to me. However, I prefer the Kotor 2 approach - pretty to look at, and not requiring too much input from me. I still feel in answer to this (and many other) questions that we live in an age of customisation and I don't see any reason why the gamer shouldn't choose between controllable and non-controllable NPCs to suit her own taste. If the designer has an interesting and innovative approach, that's fine, but if it's simply a choice between two well-known models, that choice should be ours.
  20. During the tutorial for Fahrenheit I couldn't get the action sequence right for ages. I must have tried to dodge that car nearly a hundred times before I figured out that I needed to be pressing the arrow key on the number pad and the direction key. I guess it's because I've never held a console controller in my life. I also find that I need to sit in a different position for the colour-pad action sequences and the left-right-left-right stamina sequences, so one time (as Lucas was hanging gamely from a helicopter) I scooted my chair to the side so fast I ran over my foot and collapsed in pain. It still hurts a little, and of course poor Lucas was a goner.
  21. Thank goodness there's no life on Mars. I can't begin to imagine all the ways we would screw it up if there were. Let private companies exploit space, so long as we can tax a percentage of their profits and use that to improve life for the poorest on Earth. I met an American once who had the idea that the moon belonged to them because they'd landed on it first. I wonder, does anyone know who has the authority to divide up space assets or to validate their ownership?
  22. Try sleeping with the light on and a mosquito net.
  23. Actually torture is outlawed in all (or almost all?) Eastern European countries - certainly in the ones accused of having secret CIA camps. I agree that it would depend on the specifics of the case most of all. We have a whistleblowers law in the UK (Public Interest Disclosure, I think it's called) though I don't know if it applies to government employees, and probably not to those who've signed the Official Secrets Act. For me, a lot would depend on whether lives were put in danger, either by keeping my silence or by revealing what I knew.
  24. Neither game is buggy once you've installed all the available patches. The problem with Bloodlines is that many (though not all) players experience very low framerates, stuttering sound and other issues on systems that can handle visually similar games without a problem. And the 'minimum system requirements', more than in most games, is verging on the dishonest.
  25. Specifications - some basic information about the computer you are using and some of its components. The most important things are probably the name of your graphics card and the version number of the driver it's using. Other useful information would be how much RAM you have, your processor, and your version of Windows.
