  1. Hey, you were the one rooting around in pre-history to find this thread. What should we read into that? G0-T0, in my version, died a horrible flaming death when Malachor V exploded, so that would count as pretty hot.
  2. Still patching a game eight years after its release, eh? Impressive.
  3. Yes. I suspect you'll miss the attributes bonuses from your personal crystal more than the offensive power of the lightsaber itself, so if you're prepared just to carry the thing around without using it, it helps. Beyond that, Force Wave will pretty much kill everything and keep the bad guys off you. I've never played it so strictly that I wouldn't use a lightsaber at all, but I've played a LS Jedi who never used DS powers and avoided the lightsaber when possible, and I don't remember it being particularly hard.
  4. I hope Obsidian don't do this 'meaningful name' thing with NWN2. I find most of the names rather obvious and unrealistic. I look forward to seeing what they do with the random name generator, though. One of our cats was on the computer desk when I read the above post, so I pulled up a picture of Nihilus but she didn't recognise it.
  5. It's good to play a game that doesn't treat you like an idiot and explain every plot point as though to a four year old. On the other hand, at times Kotor 2 goes beyond that to the point where you feel like you're filling in the gaps because the game was incomplete. The ending wasn't great, but that's why we have fanfic.
  6. I would say that the bonuses you get from items are so huge that it's not terribly importance which attributes you increase when you level up. You might want to look at a faq for the personal crystal to see which attributes it affects for your chosen class or alignment, though.
  7. Yeah, kind of. Actually it's pretty much 100% the darkside way. What do you think is the extra 1/3? How so? Your war of conquest would destroy much of the infrastructure of the galaxy and leave the survivors deeply scarred by the experience and terrified of you. How is that better?
  8. Those who want more Kotor would be better off pushing for Kotor 3 than a Kotor 2 expansion pack or special edition. LucasArts is trying to have fewer, more successful projects, and I can't see how a Kotor 2 Special Addition would fit in with their plans.
  9. So I run around trying to save the world in the knowledge that if I fail, someone else will come along and do it, probably better? Where's my motivation? Is it possible to construct a playable game in which you, the player-controlled character, are not the obvious protagonist of the story? NWN from the henchman's point of view and who knows what kind of 'hero' will hire you?
  10. Watch the fireworks on the video link here. That episode always aroused mixed feelings among those of us who opposed the war and yet know that Galloway is a very dodgy figure and not one you really want to be associated with.
  11. Apparently Canada's new conservative government has decided to invade the Arctic, no doubt searching for those Penguins of Mass Destruction.
  12. Or gives them lots of practice? My Vietnamese friends were also Starcraft crazy, though their attempt to get me to play against them had comically brief results. I can't think of a game more likely to be hugely profitable for the publisher, so I'm rather surprised it's not in development already.
  13. I'm sure that's true. However, I can imagine an Israeli looking at the results and thinking, "Big deal. One lot of terrorists replaces another lot of terrorists." The western media is making a big deal of this because we tend to see Hamas and Fatah as very different, but I'd like to know if Israelis agree with the distinction.
  14. He lies. He shapes his words in order to manipulate the listener. The things Palpatine and Kreia say don't have any great wisdom or philosophy behind them. The dark side is mediocre drivel.
  15. It's going to be a very interesting Israeli election, that's for sure. It's possible that Hamas will try to influence the election, by either continuing or ending its 'ceasefire', but whether they would actually prefer a hardliner or a centrist in Tel Aviv is anyone's guess. I haven't seen much on the news yet about how ordinary Israelis are reacting to the election results.
  16. Hopefully they'll let through some questions that weren't already answered in the half a dozen interviews and previews of the past fortnight. So much publicity, and still five months to go...
  17. It called for the province of Northern Ireland to cease to exist, which Unionists might say was no different than Hamas' call for Israel to be destroyed.
  18. Eventually being the key word here. It will probably happen, but it could be next year or fifty years from now. The comparison with Sinn Fein/IRA is valid, but not quite as unproblematic as some commentators are suggesting.
  19. I like RPGs, and there aren't that many good ones published. I don't want to talk myself out of liking this game before I know anything about it. I think I'll wait and let Bethesda present me with their vision of what Fallout 3 should be, and try to take it on its own terms.
  20. My favourite Middle Earth book wasn't the Silmarillion - in fact, it's so long since I read it, I had to go to Wikipedia to look up the title. It's Unfinished Tales, and looking through the list of tales, I remember really liking "Aldarion and Erendis" amongst others. I liked the story of Beren and Luthien from the Silmarillion, but tried once to get through the poem and didn't make it.
  21. I don't see how Jedi teachings can be called pacifist given that they carry deadly weapons around and seem to spend most of their training on combat skills. They don't exactly lead to strength either, since the Jedi seem too weak to make life in the Republic better in any meaningful way. Sith teachings are inherently self-destructive. Kreia's teachings weren't really teachings, they were just another way for her to manipulate the Exile. I voted neither.
  22. Yes, I wanted to know what was so bad about Requiem that it deserved a .
  23. I can imagine you chanting this, possibly at the head of a mob, storming Bethesda's HQ. Poor Bethesda, it seems they can't please anybody. I wonder if Shadowstrider will be a mod on the Fallout 3 forums. That's not a job I'd fancy.
  24. Why so? Bioware also seem to like stories about the reappearance of long-forgotten civilizations - the Rakata in Kotor and the Old Ones in NWN. Don't know if that's true for their other games, though.
  25. Among those of us left. People who don't love the devs just... disappear. I thought the company that made Planescape had stopped supporting it, or something like that. Why would they want a game tie-in for a product that doesn't exist anymore when they have newer settings to plug? Sequels are rarely as good as the original, so I'm glad PNJ is something new and we get to see Obsidian put its own stamp on something. Besides, I already know what happens to the characters in Torment, because I dreamt up a satisfying continuation of the story shortly after I finished the game. It's all in my head, and that's where it's staying.
