List of most epic games from obyknven

Sadly majority of videogames totally childish, stupid and tasteless. Hopefully a create this topic for help to you find real gems of gamedev.

I begin my list by games developed in Russia by K-D Lab.

1. Vangers - world (worlds) after fall of Human specie. Not to naive anthropocentrism (heroes of this game even not belongs to humanoids), tottally alien lifecycles and culture of OUR descendants. Enjoy to bright future, pal.

2. Perimeter - Humanity (in Soviet style) colonize Eye of Terror and Warp (it's just allegory for better understanding). Unique gameplay, unique setting (it's not vulgar Western sci-fi about Space Roman's, it's more like Strugatsky-style sci-fi), hostile aggresive environment and godlike proud Humans (who are doomed - this game is prequel of Vangers).

The Void is a very special game. An acquired taste, but I liked it very much. Really need to dust it off and try it again... and I definitely need a better sound system too when playing it.

The void was great but Pathologic really needed fast travel or at least better movement speed.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

You don't understand point of Pathologic. This is not YOBA-game as Skyrim is. This is adult game about weakness of Humans and player must suffer here.

P.S. YOBA -game is Russian term for majority of games - Youth Oriented and Bydło (or Chavs or Rednecks for West) Approved.

Best Russian game

Try troll harder.   This tread about serious adult games, not about childish Anime.

Next game yet not released, and probably never become released (devs change 3-rd engine and everything again delayed)... but this project so epic and i must mentioned it here.

Russians (again, Russian love to serious Games is obvious) in collaboration with Mike Kirkbride make "Morrowind" of Mikes dream (or Morrowind not castrated by publisher due childish Target auditory)

I wonder to what extent this is a strongly masculine anxiety.

I cannot recall women having similar exchanges.

I see something similar expressed whenever someone suggests that a game is aiming for a 'Call of Duty' audience or enjoyed primarily by console kiddies. Or discussion about the Witcher series.

Alternatively, if I said I watched the Hunger Game movies or read the books, I can't imagine another woman thinking it odd I'm reading something aimed at teenage girls. The specific series might not rate highly with her, but there's no constant measurement of maturity involved. Likewise, for plays (67% of the audience is women) there might be a discussion of which plays are really good and which are bad, but there's no discussion about which plays are immature.

The constant need to evaluate a works adultfulness is something I mostly see in regards to video games, science fiction and fantasy novels, comics, and movies that are aimed at men.

I must say, I disagree with this list. As for discussion about maturity, well, might just be a video game related topic - as opposed to books, plays, movies - rather than women vs men. Do always read a push on games as being serious or art when 'people' see it as a kid's medium. Either that or just the usual self-important crap I see on reddit constantly.

How similar are we going to talk here? There's definitely a level of discrimination based on audience that's in various parts of the game enthusiast community. And I can certainly imagine someone saying something negative on me for really enjoying the Viva Pinata titles, I've never seen it put in effect in personal discussion.

I'm inclined to think you're just observing the phenomenon that quality of discussion is adversely affected by the size of the group. But maybe that's just my wish to defend my gender. People in larger groups with more anonymity are more comfortable grouping into us vs them and describing the 'other' with some slanderous label. With the larger male population of video game discussion being a bit of a sample bias in itself.

But I say this having not seen any particularly active discussion fora for plays. So I speak from ignorance.

Adults constantly lie to childern about life. Pathetic childish games with flat characters, naive plots and with avoiding of any serious theme  (ESRB) is not failure of childrens but shame for adults.

Continue my list.
Many Eastern European games is more adult and serious in comparison with Western games, because they have much darker settings (and more tragic plot) and  touch tabooed on West "adult" themes. But some adult games is more optimistic even if they maked by Eastern European developer's.

This game also not released yet, but.... i think it's game must be very good.

Cradle is a science-fiction first-person quest with freedom of movement. The story is built around the relations of the protagonist and a mechanical girl, who by enigmatic circumstances find themselves together in a yurt among the desert Mongolian hills. The player is to restore the lost functions of his companion's mechanical body parts and together reveal the mystery of the neglected entertainment park found not far from the yurt.

Our goal is to deliver the player a specific emotional experience similar to what we may see in a night dream, where our life is completely different from the real one, with its own past and present. Cradle is a strange beautiful dream filled with anticipation of discovering a deep old mystery.

Just imagine - we yet dont have serious (and realistic) games about  relations between men's and women's because of... ESRB. This is tabooed theme.
Spielberg try create similar themed game ( but not so mediative - publishers  want action) and fail. Even Spielberg can't force publisher release not childish game.

Competition is more explicit among men because of a biological imperative, women on the other hand reinforce group dynamics through more passive aggressive means. EG: shunning, gossip, accessorizing or just plain antagonizing.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Russian strategy masterpieces, also not afraid of putting strong female character in main role

For our matriarchal society such female characters looks quite usual and we not consider this as some advantage of these games.

As you can see above Western dev's try make serious games also, but due publishers these project's mostly canceled.

Oddworld Inhabitants make brilliant countercultural  games, but at least half of them are canceled

Also Russian developers from Lostwood Games have similar problems.

Lostwood Games started to develop the game in 2012. Andrey Kniazev, the developer and leader of the team, spent $150,000 to develop it, and they had problems to find a publisher, since the game is very countercultural.

The game was rated 18+, but even after this Apple store force dev's  to censure game and cut some content.

Most of these games I've never heard of but I'll do some research on them as they look interesting :)

Maria, Oby is a troll, best to ignore him and now that he knows your SJW tendencies, he's gonna hit it there hard.

Maria is a Social Justice Warrior? I've always thought she was a bit contemptuous and had the superpower to be the first poster on a question thread, to which she promptly answers shattering the poster as a bug; her avatar fits her.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Hmmm. My Social Justice Warrior / White Knight / Keyboard Libtard radar is finely honed and Maria (if she doesn't mind me saying so) doesn't register.

She might hold those opinions, but not in an annoying way and certainly not on the forum. I wish she'd hang around a bit more tbh.

Obviously, she is free to correct me.
