Seafarer
I did not purchase the backer beta during the Fig campaign, so I thought I would ask those in the know. I intend to play, when the game is fully out, as my cannon watcher, a pale elf druid. However looking over the subclasses I found two really interested me. 1. Fury: stronger attacks and being able to turn into a literal force of nature aka lightning seemed cool and... 2. Lifegiver: cause I roleplay a fairly protective, caring character. I was curious if anyone would know if Fury is worth a play, perhaps just because the Lightning form is cool, or is it a let down? Thanks.
Ganrich
I've played the Shifter, and I loved it. Shifter/Skald to be precise. I will give the other 2 a go when I have free time and update this thread if no one else does, but it will likely be sometime this weekend before that happens. All I do is work, eat, and sleep lately.
Boeroer
I played them all and they are all good, although I think that the Fury is the weakest atm because offensive spells suck compared to melee. Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Gromnir
I played them all and they are all good, although I think that the Fury is the weakest atm because offensive spells suck compared to melee. many of the current possible beta builds is extreme potent, but almost invariably, the efficacious builds is so potent 'cause o' weapon damage. the deadfire penetration scheme is limiting, but not difficult to overcome with the correct weapon and ability choices. offensive casters, however, have long cast/recovery times and far fewer options for overcoming penetration than do weapon users. ... is gonna be... interesting. tough to make casters more vital w/o creating possibilities for even less balanced weapon user builds. Boeroer
Well, there are offensive AoE "spells" that are really good. But those are fast cast and don't do damage but either lower AR or disable (looking at chanter's invocations). I seriously don't understand why Hel-Hyraf is a tier-1 fast cast and lowers AR by 5 while a tier-2 looong cast like Expose Vulnerabilities only lowers it by 2. And I don't think that Hel-Hyraf needs a nerf (well, maybe a bit) but that wizard/druid/cipher/priest spells need a hefty buff. Either in the magnitude of the effects or casting time. Or both. Fury in theory is nice because elemental spells do more damage while you are shifted. But basically it's only Returning Storm that profits (you cast it before shifting and it stays "on" and profits once you shift) because all other elemental spells except the one Sun-Thing take so long that shifting is over after one or two spells. Suuuupermeh! The ranged attack is not powerful enough to balance that out. In theory it's a nice subclass though. Katarack21
The teleport is also really nice. It's a great concept, but suffers from caster limitations in the beta.
AndreaColombo
I played Shifter and Lifegiver, both multiclassed with Helwalker, and they were very good. I’m interested in the Fury conceptually and I will try it, but as Boeroer mentioned, right now casting times are too long across the board. "Time is not your enemy. drchocapic
I had great fun multi-classing the Shifter with various melee classes, so much so that I'll probably play one in the final game if they stay that fun. I also tried a Fury and I like the concept but all the cool spells take forever to cast.
dunehunter
Fury's attack is like you are using a hunting bow with Driving Flight, except you cannot proficient into it. And druid doesn't have any affliction abilities like Rogue. The spell bonus for fury is hella weak too, +1 penetration to elemental spells... Compared with normal spiritual form, a Bear form get Plate armour level armor rate without recovery penalty, and its claw is like you are dual wielding fast weapon, but higher basic damage. A Berserker/Bear Shifter can reach 16 armour rate and 0.5 recovery time, with a 20% lash damage later upgraded to 40%. I don't know what you guys think about this but Imo Fury is really weak while the Shifter is a bit OP. Boeroer
I wonder what happens if you multiclass ranger/fury and pick Driving Flight (if it's still in)? Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods

theBalthazar
I don't know what you guys think about this but Imo Fury is really weak while the Shifter is a bit OP. At the begining, I proposed a solution for shifter. (topic first impression) The player don't need 5 transformations... You push the player to choose 2 TRANSFORMATIONS. (One for normal druid, two for shifter) BUT in compensation, you give a bonus in accuracy and damage. (With the problem of resolve of new system, it is not crazy...) Because the problem with actual Shifter is the cheat x5 heal... with a massive heal... = invincible. The player has the feeling of choosing among 5 possibilities, and he gains bonuses. I find that the deal is better as well. Edited December 5, 2017 by theBalthazar
Rahkir
Lifegiver is really fun, too. Adds a bit of a tactical element to your healing while also making it very strong and long lasting. (Doubling your class power at level 5! And getting six times the benefit you would at level 1! (Granted the level 1 rejuvenation spell only gains duration, I believe, so it isn’t THAT cool, but 5 power levels will probably be significant for most of the game.)) I bet a single class livegiver coul facilitate a whole group of helwalkers. Playing around on PotD with a two man group (other member was a Nalpazca Devoted, just because I like it) and Druid healed them enough that they could tank all the damage from the spore fight.
