prototype00
Hello, don’t have the beta, but just wanted to check if Transcendent suffering had any interaction with Spiritshape unarmed attacks? Cheers for the confirmation!
cheesevillain
Just checked, and Transcendent Suffering isn't active if you're a bear. Or, you know, some lame animal that isn't a bear. It's a little bittersweet. I understand why that they probably shouldn't stack, but the Shifter/monk combination is tempting because the monk thrives on taking damage, and the Shifter heals so much damage. Climhazzard
I just checked too... apparently I'm a little slow, lol. It doesn't work as cheese said. My control character was a barbarian though and I can confirm carnage does work.
prototype00
Thanks very much for the confirmation. It is a shame, but I hear Monk/Soul blade Cipher also rocks so might give that a go...
Boeroer
It also didn't work in PoE1 by design. In that case Novice's Suffering. I wanted to try out Lightning Strikes + Wildstrike Shock but couldn't... yet. Maybe Fury + Lightning Strikes is fun. Did anybody check if you can summon the Long Pain while shifted? I just confirmed that you can use swift strikes and Clarity of agony while spiritshifted as a shapeshifter.... and that the level cap in the Beta is level 9 (by console commands), which is apparently much to low to get the long pain while multi classed. EDIT: Also apparently the lash damage from the swift strikes upgrade works while spiritshifted too. prototype00
So in the interest of planning out what my Monk Watcher is going to multiclass with in Deadfire, which are the good combinations for Monks? Monk / Soulblade Cipher I hear is good, as is Monk / Barbarian, but what other synergistic monk combos are there, in your estimation, Obsidian community? Boeroer
Paladin (I used a Bleak Walker) with FoD + monk's Lighting Strikes is good. Shapeshifter with Wildstrike Shock + Lightning Strikes is good as well. Skald + Devoted or rogue or berserker (= more melee crits) is good. Transmuter/Barbarian or Transmuter/Monk (aka Ogre/barb or Ogre monk) is fun as well. Ogre's stat boosts stack with Frenzy's stat boosts! Same with Helwalker's MIG boost + Ogre's Might bonus. Tons of MIG and CON. You just have to make sure your penetration is high enough or enemies' DR has to be lowered. Because the Ogre has fixed clubs and can't switch weapons. Maybe Transmuter/Priest could also be nice if the Ogre can use the priest spells to summon the divine weapon. There's a lot more to try. 1 Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods

morhilane
What does the Skald bring to the table again? +50% to get phrase when you do a melee crit and offensive invocations cost -1 phrase. -not offensive invocations cost +1 phrase. 1 Azarhal, Chanter and Keeper of Truth of the Obsidian Order of Eternity. It is a "weapon Crit" in CharGen. Are we sure it only works in melee? I think it is basically all Crits from weapons. So, a Skald could be an archer as well as a melee Character. At least that is how I have read it. EDIT: It does say melee weapons on the Character Sheet. Blah. So, it states weapon damage crits at CharGen, and Melee weapon Crits on Char sheet. I am sure you are right. Edited November 18, 2017 by Ganrich

In character creation it says all crits, so I figured, hey I'll make a blunderbuss-wielding skald and get tons of phrases but the in game description specifically mentions melee. Inconsistent descriptions in character creation.
Climhazzard
So in the interest of planning out what my Monk Watcher is going to multiclass with in Deadfire, which are the good combinations for Monks? Monk / Soulblade Cipher I hear is good, as is Monk / Barbarian, but what other synergistic monk combos are there, in your estimation, Obsidian community? Some good ones I've found so far for monk. Barb: Would go Orlan to focus on crit. Enervating blows, interrupting blows, swift flurry, all proc on crit. Barbaric blow has an increased crit chance as well. Cipher: Biting whip = +40% weapon damage. Hammering thoughts for extra penetration. Shapeshifter: Monk abilities work while shifted. Shifted lightning strikes is strong. Devoted: Probably the best melee multi class option atm. Once we can only pick a single proficiency I'll probably settle on swords because they have 2 damage types and good base damage. Priest: Skaen or Wael. Even low level priest spells are good. Skaen would be a good damage dealer, Wael gets arcane veil at level 1. Rogue: Once you get persistent distraction this will be one of the best options, it gives you consistent 50% damage with sneak attack and makes enemies easier to hit. You won't need to whiff abilities to try to enable sneak attack or maneuver around to flank enemies. Climhazzard
Torment's reach works for a shifted shapeshifter, and I'm assuming by extension that raised torment will as well, which is pretty strong.
KDubya
So in the interest of planning out what my Monk Watcher is going to multiclass with in Deadfire, which are the good combinations for Monks? Monk / Soulblade Cipher I hear is good, as is Monk / Barbarian, but what other synergistic monk combos are there, in your estimation, Obsidian community? Anything that enhances melee ability will mesh well with a monk. Go Helwalker with ones like Barbarian that will take a lot of damage and Shattered Pillar for ones with Paladin where your deflection will be high enough to not get hit much. Cipher Soul Blade get you the big damage boost from biting whip. Barbarian Berserkers give lots of benefits and clarity of agony clears the confusion. Shattered Pillar Goldpact paladins will excel at sworn enemy dropping one foe at a time while having +4 armor, +20% damage and +15 accuracy. Once dead you get the zeal back to do it again. Plus Paladins have great defenses, going for Dance of Death will be good due to not being hit much, but I'm assuming that the +12 accuracy from Dance of Death and +15 from Sworn Enemy overwrite each other so choose something other than Goldpact for a Dance of Death user. Devoted/Shattered Pillar or Helwalker will do great with their chosen weapon Shattered Pillar/Wizard will have massive defenses from the big defense buffs that wizards get. Go with a Ogre for extra style

Indeed, I feel Single Class Monk shines because they have all awesome abilities starting from power level III and IV. I'd rather get these as soon as possible.
