If you still add builds, could you please add my fast assassin as well: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/93566-class-build-the-fast-assassin-dual-wielding-rogue/

It seems that the forum software no longer allows editing of old posts and therefore it is not possible to amend the main list. I would not have posted this build here due to that, except that there seem to be no melee ciphers on this thread. Therefore, I present the "The Shattered Mind", a melee cipher whose primary weapon is Shatterstar.

I don't think there is any particular build for eder, but tanking as fighter isn't that hard. basically:

  • Weapon and Shield Style
  • Defender
  • Wary Defender
  • Overbearing Guard

Basic idea - have ton of engagement, use overbearing guard to smack down guys who, since Eder is boring and no enemy want to play with him, try to get away to squishies. Good equipment - Shatterstart warhammer and Dragon's Maw Shield for max engagement.

Too bad this cannot be updated

Anyone with a new build should just quote the build list, remove the quote tags, add your entry in the right spot, then post. That way, the last post will always be the most up to date list (and should be quoted when people are adding a new one, rather than the first post).

I just have to say....

For someone who is only finding this genre of game now and thoroughly enjoying it, the guides are pretty terrible.

Pillars 1 and 2 are the only games ive ever played where the guides are just sub par, both written and youtube.

Everything is so confusing and done so badly.

There are pixel art RPG games that have better guides then these.

Everything is out of date, and named with a personal name.

No one talks about the actual game companions and how to build those proficiently.. You list items as if every tom **** and harry knows where to get them, how to get them, when to get them... etc etc etc...

Simple fact is these are not build guides, they are opinionated debates but at the end of the day there is a perfect min/max way to build everything AND A WAY TO GET THERE FROM BEING A NEWB.

You have skipped 90% of what a guide is, and all you have done is listed end game statistics items spells etc..

Where is the 1 person who is willing to sit down and give an in depth guide from beginning to end on everything?

Does this person exist in the poe 1 and 2 worlds?

Can anyone point me somewhere that ill actually learn something from?

Its like a millionaire giving a seminar on all his riches but never tells you how he got there ... lol

Sorry, late response - I've been away for a work thing for over a week.

I think nobody here is including those infos because you can look most of them up in the official wiki:
https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Official_Pillars_of_Eternity_Wiki

So repeating that info (like where to get which item etc.) in every build is not needed.

Thus this thread (that doesn't say "guide" by the way but "build list") simply lists fun and powerful build combos and ideas - and opinionated debates, yes. It's a forum after all, not a wiki.
That's what we as forum users seem to like and settle on when it comes to character builds. They are not guides that hold your hand from start to finish and tell you every detail about what you should do. They are more like elaborated (and tested) build ideas that work well and can give you inspirations, not firm instructions. You can follow them bit by bit or alter them to your taste - since the game is so balanced it won't hurt the experience much.

And maybe that's also why most players don't go into every detail but only outline the impactful stuff mostly when it's about building a character. Yet most builds I read here do note every race, background, skill, talent, ability and item even if it's not crucial.

Complete game guides can be found here I think:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/687020-pillars-of-eternity/faqs

I haven't used them - but since some other gamefaq-stuff I read is very decent I suppose those are good as well.

If you still cannot make sense of the game(s) and need help please feel free to ask in these forums and you will get help.

I suggest to not use detailed guides etc. because the games are better without spoilers and also they are balanced very well from a mechanical standpoint. You cannot really screw your first playthrough up with a "bad build" - especially if you start on normal or veteran difficulty. Both games are pretty difficult at the beginning and then feel easier after the first levels - so don't feel discouraged or fear that your character build is bad. That's most likely not the case.
