I recognized Shanina. The site where her diary was posted removed it for some reason, but the internet never forgets: http://web.archive.org/web/20150914111609/http://iremember.ru:80/memoirs/snayperi/shanina-roza/

Might be a bit confusing if you have to rely on google translate, I thought they have a new algorithm but it apparently hasn't made it to Russian yet.

11:49 reminded me of some words that went as such:

"What is left of the buildings is lying in what's left of the streets. There are no hospitals, there are no emergency rooms, there are no operating rooms, there are no blood banks, there are no intravenous fluids, there are no X-ray machines or diagnostic equipment. We are talking about a physician in the face of these injuries: skull fractures, spinal lesions, crushing injuries of the chest, third-degree burns, running around with a black bag. Medical care is a moderately complex human activity, and it is exactly this kind of moderately complex human activity that will be impossible after a nuclear attack, and will represent perhaps the greatest and most permanent damage. The meaning of survival for human beings is social, and it is the social fabric that will be so ruptured as to change human life for a very long time, if not permanently thereafter."

if trump had read the text and viewed the video in our links, he wouldn't have been surprised by mcmaster behavior.

*shrug*

is more than a few o' us who has wondered just how long mcmaster and mattis would remain part o' the trump administration as neither were likely to compromise principles to stay in favor with the chief executive. from the start, we didn't see a way for mcmaster and trump to coexist long term, but we were relieved an intelligent voice-o'-reason would be in the room if wh crises did arise.

heck, fire mcmaster and perhaps get paul van riper to come outta retirement?  would be a hoot.

David Frum remarked that in spite of his grave misgivings over the Trump administration he was leery of comparisons to Hitler since the American people have plenty of stops to get off on that train to outright totalitarian fascism. However a friend of mine opined: "The interesting thing will be seeing every poisonous ****wit in existence slinking towards the post if McMasters gets fired. I can't see a replacement fairing much better unless they're a total Goering."

Seems like you're exaggerating just a little bit.

depends on what he means.  fat hermann were smart and brave, but he were also a corporate opportunist who were more interested in advancing himself than doing what were best for the german people. heck, hermann actual blackmailed hitler at one point; were gonna release info regarding the hidden truth behind industrialist backing o' the nazi movement if hitler didn't support him in the 1928 elections. 'course hermann's reason for wanting political influence were so as to advance his own industrial interests. the hermann göring worksa would become one o' the largest holding companies in europe thanks to göring political connections.  worse, the numerous military contracts hermann engineered for himself also tended to include kickbacks and bribes. on top o' his other shortcomings, göring's military expertise were woeful out-of-date.

so, who were hermann göring? a former military leader most notable for ideological extremism and political opportunism? trump wants folks who is, first and foremost, loyal to him.  in the future, trump is no doubt gonna want somebody with ideological leanings more in-line with his own.  so yeah, we can see how somebody might see a göring copy as the most likely replacement.  trump might find some out-o'-touch, old guard, general or admiral who is willing to take up an accursed wh position, but am thinking there is reason to be concerned as is tough to envision the qualified and ethical replacement who active pursues mcmaster's old post when a consensus The Guy were fired for telling his boss hard truth.

  • 2 weeks later...

current scheme doesn't strike us as particular enlightened.  sure, anti-icbm tech were considered counter-productive for much o' the cold war era, but the "hitting a bullet with a bullet" approach seems inherent flawed.  heck, to make gifted glow, we suggest deploying swarms o' drones, carried in high altitude balloons, which could be released as needed to intercept icbms.

one o' the more interesting approaches we recollect from the star wars defense era were small nukes studded with powerful x-ray lasers.  the limits 'pon power o' lasers is the power source, and a fission reaction offers a considerable kick.  high altitude explosion o' smallish nukes literal covered with x-ray lasers could intercept numerous incoming icbms. 'course limits 'pon atmospheric nuke testing understandable prevented meaningful development.

drones.  swarms o' kamikaze drones.
