Argahawk
So I clear the tower, speak with Aldhelm on the top of it and get command word from Icantha as he wanted. But now I'm stuck, would like to find out what Aldhelm mean by "show me a way to strengthen myself" using that soul machine but I cannot find anyone who I could convince/lie to so that person go to the tower as victim for make Aldhelm "normal" again. In Journal there's "If I want his help, I'll need to send a victim to him" - so anyone know who it is ? Tried to talk with almost everyone in Defiance Bay but no luck for now. dreamycat
Have you convinced Icantha to pass on her legacy to you properly? If you have, normally Aldhelm will attack you on your second encounter since he's incapable to maintain his sanity anymore. At least thats what happened to me. treylot
Icantha keeps a few slaves in her home. It's possible to lie to them and convince them to go to the top of the tower. Alternatively, you can save them and get some Defiance Bay rep.

Or is there's a way to somehow reset Icantha house by console commands ? Edited March 31, 2015 by Argahawk
Argahawk
*sorry for double* Was able to fix my problem by reset Icantha house by deleting AR in my savegame and send prisoners to Aldhelm Edited March 31, 2015 by Argahawk
Faniu
I'm having the same problem and I don't know what you mean by "deleting AR in savegame", could you elaborate please? Also can anyone tell me what exactly "strengthening myself" does? Is it worth the effort?

You need to open your savegame with winrar or 7-zip and delete AR file (ex. for Icantha house its : Heritage_Hill_Ground_01) after you delete it just load that save and visit that place/area one more time and its should be reset. Faniu
Worked like a charm, thank you very much In case anyone wondering, if you absorb the power of the machine it gives your character +1 might and x1.05 max endurance (also this choice is marked as [Cruel] but still gives you rep with Defiance Bay)
Ichthyic
yeah, I figured it would do something like that, given previous games where this kind of thing exists.*sigh* this time I'm playing an honest, diplomatic paladin.cruel is the polar opposite of what my character is all about, so had to give this one a pass.OTOH, after you get the information from Icantha, and talk to the now very much degenerated Aldhelm just ONCE (talk to him again and he will attack). If you then destroy the tower, you can talk to him again.seems you helped him out after all, so at least there's that. SparocheeDoom
What kind of power do you actually gain from the device?
kaiki
What kind of power do you actually gain from the device? You gain a talent called "Gift from the Machine" that gives +1 might and 5% increase in maximum Endurance. I just checked on my Monk that has it. 613 The Evil
Can you get the talent and then overload and destroy the machine, to get the happy ending slide? I wonder...
jsaving
Electing to consume them ensures the "bad" ending slide. It's marked "cruel" because you are destroying some souls who would otherwise have been reborn, but because no one sees you do that, Defiance Bay thinks you simply turned off the machine and credits you accordingly. Kaylon
If you don't destroy the machine you get the bad ending because eventually someone else will use the machine again...
Messier-31
Why I can't destroy the machine after I get the +1 gift? Bollox. It would be of small avail to talk of magic in the air...
FlintlockJazz
Why I can't destroy the machine after I get the +1 gift? Bollox. I'm guessing you need the souls you consume to cause the overload and destroy the machine. Considering that destroying it implies the souls get destroyed too it becomes a sacrifice, otherwise there would be no reason to not free the souls and still destroy the machine. As we don't know how 'durable' these Engwithan devices are it could be a case that it is the only way to destroy it at the time, but without knowing for sure it does feel a bit of a forced dilemna (basically free, destroy, or munch choices). I could be misremembering however, as I am actually right in the middle of Heritage Hill in my current playthrough at the moment I'll be sure to take note of anything mentioned in regards to this. 1 "That rabbit's dynamite!" - King Arthur, Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail "Space is big, really big." - Douglas Adams
jsaving
Yes, that's right -- you use the souls to overload the machine, which destroys the machine and sends the souls back to the Wheel. If you instead choose to consume the souls, they "overload" you rather than the machine, giving you a stat bonus at the cost of the souls' permanent destruction and the assurance that the Hollowborn problem will return to that part of the city after you defeat Thaos. It's an unfortunate reality in PoE that you must often choose between the tangible rewards from "bad" behavior and the intangible rewards of the "good" ending slides... FlintlockJazz
According to Icantha, "improperly channeling the essence would destroy the machine along with the souls." This implies that you need the essence in the machine from the souls to destroy it, and that by doing so kills the souls, which is pretty dark. You're not just killing people, but any chance of a afterlife/reincarnation too...
