IndiraLightfoot Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 It was a pretty great tournament overall (except some of the referees), and I do think that the winners reflect the reality of the WC, as it were: Only one team had this total-Füssball, being great at defending, mid-field tactics, quick passes, creative goals, etc, all at once and consistently, and that team is Germany. I'm still amazed over Brazil's defensive collapses during the last two games, and Scholari's passivity in that first game, when their defence was breached in the worst of ways. 1 *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***
Malcador Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Referee was ok, match wasn't as rough as the 2010 final I found. Hoewedes was lucky, as was Aguero to not get a second yellow for the hit on Schweinsteiger (boy did that guy get worked on during that game). 1 Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

Ref-ing football matches always seems a bit like herding cats to me. The good ones manage it with a deft touch, and that sometimes means letting some of the rough stuff get by. BruceVC Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) I was in Berlin yesterday. Holy hell was i ever at the right place. But this raises a good point, a country can truly transform itself with the right political will. In 70 years Germany has become one of the most powerful and influential countries in the region, and the world, despite losing two world wars.
