PE is just inspired by the Infinity Ingine, Obsidian will be using Unity which has modern multiplatform support (same engine Wasteland 2 is using to make their game).

Project Eternity is not using the Infinity Engine.

I miss read it here http://gamestar.ru/english/interview_kickstarter_chris_avellone_project_eternity_english.html

What audience do you expect to be interested in the project?

Anyone who enjoys the old Infinity Engine games and would like to play them again.

In the promo of the game, that we’d seen on Kickstarter, the names of Chris Avellone, Josh Sawyer and Tim Cain were constantly mentioned. What is the particular role of each of them in developing of Project Eternity?

Josh Sawyer is the project lead (and he’s involved on almost all aspects of design, including races, lore and world tone), Tim Cain is doing the same (he’s currently delving into system design) I’m doing narrative design (focus on story and characters).

Yeah, on top of that I believe they've stated they plan to go with a 2D background but use 3D models for characters, monsters, that kinda thing. Should end up, hopefully, being a nicer variant on Temple of Elemental Evil did where it used 3D PC/Monsters on top of pre-rendered backgrounds. Personally I think its the absolute best of both worlds for this style of game and for resource management as far as how the game ultimately looks and plays on a wide range of systems.

Outa the infinity engine stuff, Black Isle, more often then not, had the better art direction and some of those spell effects where a delight to see comparitively. But yeah that kinda 2D and 3D mix should be useable on a super wide range of PC systems currently. I'm hoping, honestly, more flexible then D3 currently is. Kind curious what they'll do for lighting... but really I just wanna see game stuff, to early for that. Ah well, year from now hopefully.

What do you mean by, "it wont run right"? Baldurs Gate 2 and other IE games can run without issue on Windows 7 64bit. Underlying hardware for the most part should be a non-issue.

Screen just flickers and the mouse keeps flashing.

It's also not supported and can have a ton of issues. I know a good amount of folks who can't even get it to run. Trents team over at overhaul has been working on BGEE for a damn long time now just to fix bugs and get it to run properly on Win7+ along with all the GUI and other BG2 enhancements plus further tweaks. If it works flawlessly for you, you should count your self lucky. Though even then its stuck toa 4:3 res.. just one of the many reason I am excitedl awaiting BGEE release.

It probably depends on the game. The problem isn't your hardware. It's your OS. I run XP 64 bit and XP 32 bit for compatibility reasons. I've had trouble getting Icewind Dale to run in XP. IIRC, I had better luck with Windows 2000 for Icewind Dale 1. There should be no problem getting BG2 to run on XP. I'm not sure about PS:T. It has been too long since I've played it. One option is to multiboot different OSes. Another is to install XP on a VMware virtual machine.

JoshSawyer: Listening to feedback from the fans has helped us realize that people can be pretty polarized on what they want, even among a group of people ostensibly united by a love of the same games. For us, that means prioritizing options is important. If people don’t like a certain aspect of how skill checks are presented or how combat works, we should give them the ability to turn that off, resources permitting.

Yeah, I can get PST to semi-run on Win7 but it kinda craps on me, constantly so It's... just not where I'd want it to really get into it and just play for hours like I do. I really hope the guys over at overhaul get the go-ahead and do a PST Enhanced Edition as well as that'd just be awesome to see that updated. Though that had a much more custom infinity engine compared to IWD series. Had a rather fundamental GUI shift, all the art assets are a tad larger actually though so I feel like it would, ultimately, hold up better to a larger screen res then BG1 does. I'd love to play that in a 720 16:9 man... would be so good.

You should get your information directly from the developers, not rely on hearsay Vampero.

I actually did read more, thought you could do with the advice anyway, in-case you are tempted to make more topics. ;)

Vampereo, have you asked for advice on the GOG forum? I've got all the IE games running on my Win7 64 bit rig. Modded them with widescreen mod and a bunch of other stuff for some of them as well (BGT for the BG games, fixpacks and IWD tweaks for the IWD games and PS:T). Hell, I even have ToEE evil running with the Co8 mod. My rig's a bit older than yours though:

Core i7 920

Win7 Pro 64 bit

SSD drives and HDDs

6 gigs RAM

GTX 560 Ti

My screen res is 1920x1200

Maybe it's a crossfire issue in your case?

The Infinity Engine games run just fine on Windows 7, just do not install them into C:\Program Files (x86). Install them onto a separate partition, if possible, or anywhere you can give user level read/write permissions safely.

Also: there are high resolution mods for all of these games. Bing and Google are useful here.

Well this was the first facepalm of the day. But, you recognized your error, that's more than I've come to expect.

Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
