Drowsy Emperor
JRPG's are all very similar in some respects so burn out is expected if you play them constantly. Years have passed since I last took up the genre and by the time I'm through with the next few I have planned it will probably be years again before I pick it up. Drowsy Emperor
persona 2 is really great but VERY VERY grind heavy I don't know what's wrong with SMT designers. Every game I played in the series has an obscene encounter rate. Persona 3 has a 250 floor randomly generated dungeon FFS. Don't know whose bright idea that was in this day and age. Labadal
If you're looking for a good JRPG, then you should try Radiant Historia. It might get a bit repetitive sometimes, but the story makes up for it. The characters are well written, and the main character can actually think for himself. Mamoulian War
... All too often they fail at resolving the storylines or resort to cliches, shallow characters and rely on far too much grind to add more length to gameplay... That describes pretty much every single WRPG I played after KOTOR II.... with the exception of the grind... which makes you to throw away the game even sooner... Nordicus
Though most of my friends say I'm not missing much, I'm thinking there is some JRPG gem out there that is not totally some sick mess of "Saki puke on a story board, sexualization of 14 year old school girls, adrogynous ansgty teen, ridiculous outfits and hair, mini-game/quick time event" crap. Is there something out there worth checking out? Or am I just to jaded? Well, there is one game that I think is on 360, and has become a cult classic due to its almost Witcher-level of depressing storytelling, and the 2nd playthrough punching you in the gut emotionally. The game was however met with bad sales and lukewarm reception because it had a lot of samey, rather boring side-quests as filler for the stellar character development The game I'm talking about is NIER and it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard Game intro and my favorite song under the spoilers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8XTbluLDyE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEtz4K7JpsE
greylord
OMG...NIER...that is one hell of a depressing game. You have to beat it three times to find out the actual story though...twice only gets you half the way there...

Drowsy Emperor
I was going to play these three to the end: Final Fantasy XII Persona 4 Digital Devil Saga 2 and then I'm done with JRPG's for the foreseeable future. Now, I know I'm going to play FFXII to the end because I'm almost there. I'm not sure I can slog through DDS's grind, and am hanging on only due to the promise of a good story. Just spoiled the ending on YT on purpose, and decided that its not worth it. A few nice ideas but in typical anime fashion, all jumbled up. Meh I'm even more skeptical about Persona 4 because out of the 70+ hours that it takes to finish Persona 3 at least 50 were spent on grinding social links, grinding attributes and grinding combat. By the time the game ended I was physically and mentally exhausted. I don't want to go through the same process again for a storyline with a potentially crappy outcome. Mamoulian War
Maybe you are doing it wrong then, try to play the games in shorter sessions and combine it with games like God Hand or God of War, to get your head cleared, but do not take to big break or you forget the story I know what I am talking about, got 450 hours in White Knight Chronicles 400 hours in Star Ocean 4 and 250 hours of gameplay of FFXII over the course of last 5 years, and I am still enjoying them, when I get back to them Currently playing my 2nd playthrough of Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2. 40 hours only combined time Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC.
