They handle baptismal records and such, which you would need to construct a fake identity, or if you happen to have lost yours.

Why would you need baptismal records?

Does that mean you can't opt out of being baptised?

I dunno, I'm not a Scandie but those countries tend to be very socially and religiously homogenous. I'm just guessing that the majority of folks do. Scandies can you enlighten us?

In case anyone cares, here churches are on the government tit. Financing comes through a special tax, less than one percent , which you CAN opt out of, it takes writing a formal letter declaring your wish no to belong to the Church of Denmark. Few bother, and hence there is money to hire priests and upkeep of churches.

Here the churches are tax exempt so they get to keep every penny of the tithe and are usually very affluent. So priests earn an actual wage in Denmark? Here, I believe, priests are given free room and board but do not receive a pay check but I could be wrong on that.

Depends entirely on the church. I think that most of them get some kind of salary, unless it's only a part-time position.

Surely you can, although I don't ever remember being told whether my baptism was the result of sociocultural pressure given our Italian, Catholic background or not, so maybe there is some kind of legal obligation.

I just clinched 1st place in the office NCAA basketball pool. Hooray for dumb luck!

Nice job, I was blown out before the end of the first round.

if it's any consolation, this long distance thing is really hard, but we're trying to keep it going

I've always preferred long distance relationships. You can be all passionate when together and not have to keep up magic tricks 24/7 when you need to work. But that doesn't make them unpainful, so commis.

I think it's better to keep your distance a bit when you first start going out. If you spend so much time together, you think you're in love and so on and so fourth and then you just eventually get sick of each other and soon after you start looking for excuses to break up and can end up hating each other. It's an all too common occurrence. But if you've been going out for a while, it's probably a good idea to spend some more time together, keeping the relationship meaningful, rather than just a social convenience.

You're probably right, Archie. BUt up until recently the most important thing for me was my independence.

Of course since I got all tubby I can no-longer expect replacements to appear! :* So at least in theory I'd probably put up with a little domestication. :*

Unless you become a multi-millionaire. You'll have so many replacements you'll forget who you're replacing. How would you feel if you actually did end up winning tens of millions of pounds, but by that stage you were deep into a long-term relationship?

I flatter myself that I'd not get into a relationship with anyone who I wouldn't stay with (at the time) if I suddenly had the choice of anyone else. I think the expression is 'serial monogamist'.

Actually, talking about this makes me wonder if my overall loyalty is due to an insistence on not being domesticated. If I agree to being told what to do as part of relationships now, maybe that would erode my loyalty? Intriguing notion.

I've got a friend who cannot be single. He has to be dating/seeing someone and feels really uncomfortable and depressed if he's not actually in a relationship.

Of course, that's also balanced by the guy who never has a relationship longer then 3 weeks and is usually a different one-night stand most weeks.

And the guy who met a girl while teaching at a science summer camp in America (one of the other staff, not a student pervs) and for the last 5 years they've kept the relationship going flying back and forth between her place (Mexico City) and his place here.

And of course me, who.. well frankly I haven't really gotten over my last ex and while I've tried a whole batch of things, I kind of think it's not really kosher to date a girl while you're still picturing someone else's face...

He needs to see somebody about that IMO. He has issues. He'll never learn how to live with anybody until he's learnt to live with himself. I know, I'm deep.

This guy, OTOH, is a fuqing legend and needs no hel whatsoever, this phase will pass. Hopefully he'll be about fifty by then, but it will pass. I know, I'm shallow.

Is she hot or does he really, really want a Green Card?

I uninstalled FO3, Space Empires 5, & Dragon Age from my computer today. I'm free at last, free at last, thank GOD almighty I'm free at last! Thats it! I'm giving up these colossal, addicitve time devourers called PC games. From now on the only game I'm going to have on my computer is Fritz Chess. No more buying new expensive video cards every few months, no more sitting down for a few hours game time then being shocked when I hear my alarm clock going off. Whew, I feel like a weight has been lifted off me.

Soooooo, I'm looking at my computer, I've read my email, the news, sports, cheked the forums I like... now what do I do?

Hey I heard Dragon Age II is out!

Yeah, I know. And he recently lost his IT related job with the local Constabulary because his old housemate (who also works there) let slip to the bosses his occasional foray into pharmacutical recreation.. :)

Eh, We're talking the guy who spends one week talking about the boobs on a girl and the nasty sex she likes for a one night stand .. and then meets up with her again and brings her to a restaurant meal with everyone he told about her.. And he's the type who says romance and love is purely a juvenile thing that everyone grows out of and isn't real.

Not bad, quite cute, and bout 4'10. Which is kind of funny cause he's 6'3.
