Well, we have to see this in a more positive light. Obsidian has basically free reign to completely reboot/recreate the DS setting. They can make it completely different from the predecessors without violating canon, because there never was any.

Sure, but why? The Dungeon Siege IP has no positive connotations what so ever, the best you have a is Diablo clone and the worst is a buggy spin-off in space and a horrible movie.

And the name just screams out generic fantasy game, I mean who the hell sieges a dungeon anyway?

What's with the undue negativity - how is this "desperate," for instance?

When you don't have the financial assets of a publisher, I imagine that any job would be a good job. This particular job will diversify Obsidian's products beyond the type of games they've already shown they can make, while further establishing their presence within the (increasingly broad) RPG niche of the gaming market.

Maybe it's not what you'd want most from this particular talent pool, but I for one am happy that the right people are working and making money. (And IMO, all of Obsidian's sequels have been marked improvements over their predecessors.)

A dull boy.

This is what I wanted to imply with my first post.(Except for the we have to see this in a possitive light part)

Oh yes, the dude that wrote that news story did so in such an unprofessional manner.

I dont remenber it well, but a joke about Dungeon Siege is basically how it plays itself

It's not Christmas anymore but I've fallen in love with these two songs:

Well, I like both Dungeon Sieges (yes, sue me), so I wouldn't mind a third game. Although made by Obsidian, that surely is a strange choice.

Although I guess it can't fail for me, liking DS and OE.

(PS, devs... return the Hassat!!! :* )

I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5.

It's Nathaniel's first job as Lead Designer, no? Give the poor guy a break. :*

Nathaniel is a good designer.

BTW. In case anyone cares.

Hopefully this is done with in-house tech.

EDIT : 'Nathaniel is a good designer'. I could have fun interpreting this.

Concept art = cool if a bit generic. Doesn't really give me any particular vibe, but at least the settings (assuming all those things will be in the game) seem varied enough.

First off, Obsidian is a company, and if they are offered money to do a major project, then yeah, it isn't desperation.

The big complaint with Dungeon Siege has always been lackluster story, dialogue, and characters. Obsidian is fantastic in those departments. So this might work.

Let's not forget that DS3 will be a direct competitor to Diablo III...

Oh snap!

Edit: Will DS3 even be isometric?

I doubt Obsidian (and Square Enix for that matter) would be so stupid as to make it another Diablo clone.

It will most probably have the quest structure of an rpg, otherwise Diablo III success would dwarf it (well.. there's always a market for Diablo clones anyway, so who knows, maybe this will come first).

Seems like this is going to be a departure from DS (never played DS2).

I'll be interested in seeing how it develops.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Did you read the press release? 4-player co-op doesn't exactly sound like an environment for great dialogue/storytelling to me.

And if you thought all the AP to ME comparisons were bad :*

I really hope the art style will be like in the concept art. Unlikely, but I'd really love to see a game that looks hand-painted more than "realistic" aka shiny as hell.

Baldur's Gate 2 had multiplayer too.

I always thought 2K Games has the DS license.

I guess after the two games they published, they said '**** it' :*

Baldur's Gate 2 had multiplayer too.

Not as the main focus, though.

Who says that's the main focus in this game? They also listed party members among the features.

Of note, the official website has no such announcement yet.... http://release.square-enix.com/na/2010/

:*

It's official.

"News time! #SquareEnix Announces Partnership w/ #Obsidian for #DungeonSiege 3 Looking forward to collaborating w/ @Feargus @DeathBot9"

"Oh and #DungeonSiege 3 will be a multi-platform release this time around :)"

Diablo 3 won't be on consoles.

Diablo 3 will be on Macs and will play on any PC from the last 7 years, so the platform shouldn't really be a problem.

@Worst: I remain skeptical.

Who the hell is SquareEnixSonia? Do they even work at SE? I saw no such mention in their bio.
